The review written by myself should have been posted on the Lavris Paradise not the Lavris- sorry!
If you are considering staying at the hotel I would recommend that you do not stay at the Lavris but stay in the Lavris Paradise as the accommodation is soooo much nicer, if you book this accommodation you will probably end up upgrading whilst you are there at 10 Euros per day. the 8/10 rating is for the Lavris Paradise I did not see inside a Lavris room but believe it would be 1/10.

My girlfriend and I went to stay at the lavris for 7 days on all inclusive basis. It was our first holiday abroad and I can honestly say that because of the service we received at the Lavris we will never be returning to Crete again.
We stayed in the 3 star accommodation which was very basic and very poorly maintained, broken light bulbs, broken patio door, to name a few.
The food there is just awful with no variety whatsoever, best way of describing it is very German, every English couple we spoke to were complaining about the poor quality and variety of the food.
The service we received was terrible, the staff just aren’t interested, very unhelpful, and very unfriendly, a real feeling of them and us.
Facilities advertised such as fridge, TV, laundry, and iron you have to pay extra for, that said, the very impolite receptionist insisted they do not do laundry even though they advertise it.
Indoor pool was great but only between 6 and 7 pm, again the outdoor pools were very clean and inviting however with hardly any seating in the pool area and its opening hours of 9 to 7 it was very difficult to appreciate.
On the whole the Lavris looks quite inviting, however I would advise anybody thinking of booking with them to reconsider

The accommodation at the Lavris Paradise was to a high standard. The rooms were modern and fully air conditioned.
There are 2 pools which were clean we did however, note a shortage of sun loungers.
We stayed on the all inclusive basis, which was OK although not brilliant, the food was OK but it was very repetitive. We ate out of the hotel for the majority of our evening meals. The majority of the staff were friendly and helpful.
The AI drinks finished at 11pm- this was not a problem as if you wanted a late drink there was a brilliant bar next door ran by Spyros who stayed open until the last person left the bar.
The entertainment at the hotel was ok but only twice a week. there was Greek dancing one night and Karaoke the other.
There is a bus stop 2 minutes walk from the hotel and for 1 Euro you can travel to nearby Stalis, Hersonisos and Malia, the bus service was very reliable and the buses were of a high standard.
I would definitely return to Gouves and would recommend the Lavris Paradise. If you don’t expect a lot from the food you won’t be disappointed

We travelled to Crete for a week’s child free holidaying.
When we initially arrived at the Lavris, we thought we had been booked into the 4* hotel but were shown to some grotty little bungalow which was supposedly, 3.5*.
As we had seen an opportunity to upgrade at the reception, we took them up on this offer and booked into the 4* hotel rooms which were a great improvement for 10 Euros per day.
Whilst we could not fault the facilities of the hotel and two swimming pools which were beautifully clean at all times, there was no entertainment to speak off, the staff at the bar have been brilliantly trained not to serve you drinks until you have finished the last drip of the one you are drinking and the food is so awful, we didn’t eat in the restaurant once and never bothered at all for breakfast.
If you like Greek salad and want to live on it, you are fine but if you prefer a varied menu, it leaves a lot to be desired.
If you have young children, I would be very wary about taking them to this hotel on an all inclusive basis. Not once, did I see any chips and chicken is not a Greek staple and was only served once as far as I can remember. The meat they do serve is poor quality and full of fat and everyone seemed to live on the Greek bread, which was excellent, and Feta Cheese!
There were a lot of guests, needless to say, that lived on the food in the restaurant for two weeks and never went outside but I can only assume that they were either not fussy or starving!
The indoor swimming pool and sauna which they advertise is only open 1 hour a day 6 - 7 pm and the children are only allowed ice cream between 4.30 and 6 pm. The snacks are toasted sandwiches, which you queue and make yourself from 11 - 12pm in the morning and 4.30 - 6 pm in the afternoon. No other food alternative is offered apart from a few pieces of stale cake.
There is an excellent taverna next door, the Asteria. I would however pay your drinks bill as you go and not allow it to mount up because the bar man is extremely drunk and has a tendency to overcharge you at the end of the night.
The Hermes Taverna a couple of shops down serves the best English breakfast I have ever eaten abroad and the owner, Nora, will do anything to make you welcome.
I would go back to Gouves and even the Lavris Hotel but I would not stay All inclusive.
Have a good holiday.

My boyfriend and I stayed at the 4* Lavris Paradise and had such a good time. The newly built complex was really luxurious and clean and we had a lovely view to the sea (especially at sunset).
We were only a few minutes walk away from the shops and tavernas and the beach was a 5 min walk. The hotel staff were all really friendly and helpful and made our stay very comfortable.
The food was great, although we had never done All Inclusive before so we had nothing to compare it to, but we thought it was great.
The breakfast's had a selection of cereals, continental and fried english!!
The lunch was a selection of hot dishes and salads etc.
The dinner's had a big selection of salad to choose from and the hot food was different every night, ranging from pasta, chicken & chips, pork chops and roast dinners.
Desserts were pretty much the same each night, angel delight, mousse, jelly, cake and blamanche. But very yummy!!
The snacks were quite basic, bread butter, cheese, ham etc, biscuits, ice cream and cake, everything you would expect for a snack! The coffee was nice aswell!!
The Cretan Night that the hotel organise was such a laugh and I got dragged up to dance 3 times, while my boyfriend filmed (typical)!!!
So all in all I was very impressed with the Lavris Paradise Complex Hotel and would recommend it to anyone.

The new Lavris Paradise Complex was very impressive and the staff were extremely friendly and helpful. We especially enjoyed the traditional Greek Taverna next door, the Asteria Taverna.

Having just returned from the Lavris Paradise Hotel I would like to make the following comments:
I am of the opinion that you cannot please all of the people all of the time but the description given with regard to this hotel bears no resemblance to it. On the positive side there are two pools which are as commented on previously are kept very clean. The new accommodation is also of a good standard, and the staff work extremely hard mainly because they are in short supply.
The negatives unfortunately outweigh the positives. There is a desperate shortage of sunbeds many of which are broken.
The older part of the hotel which is namely the Lavris Hotel has rather shabby rooms and whether you pay extra for 4* accommodation or not everyone shares the same families, which really does not work.
The food in the restaurant was on some days inedible, and appeared to be rehashed at every meal and was not heated thoroughly . Many people were heard complaining to their Reps and ate out of the hotel even though they had paid for all inclusive. The main complaint my Husband and I had regarding the food albeit of poor quality was the unhygienic conditions, the family pets, two dogs and several cats roamed throughout the eating areas, one of which was rather intimidating, this also presented a health hazard.
There was a help yourself snack area in the corner of the bar, which consisted of one toaster (which was broken) but just about worked if you pushed down the lid with a cup, and you made your own sandwiches.
As the hotel is apparently family run and the family are indeed present, not once did they acknowledge their customers or make any communication. On one occasion, I asked for advice regarding transport and I found them most obstructive. The hotel is near to the airport and the journey takes approximately 12 minutes by taxi for which people were
charged various rates. The true rate should be 15 euros, I was informed by the tourist information service, however the norm seemed to be 20 euros and several people paid 25 euros for the same trip.
One more piece of advice is that it is not a hotel for children as there is nothing for them to do within the hotel and the sea can be rough at this time of year, in this area. In addition, there is no entertainment for them early evening and very little in the way of entertainment for adults at this hotel.
