Golden Sands Beach Hotel

We had a generally good holiday staying at the Golden Sands Hotel, Candolim, which is best described as a good basic hotel. We stayed in the Agara annexe which is behind the original hotel. The rooms provide everything you need and are kept spotless but luxury it ai’nt. Don’t be put off by first impressions you will be comfortable and well looked after. The staff is very good and very helpful please remember to tip before you leave.
The sea is about 200 yards away and the beach seems to go on for ever. The sea is very dangerous because of currents so take note of the life guards. Use the shacks which line the beach, the food and service is very good and we had no problems at all, eating lunch at the Beach Shack everyday.
For the ladies there is an excellent ladies hairdresser , who I know does ladies hair beautifully, at Clare’s Beauty Parlour - down road passing Golden Sands on right, turn left passed at Team bar then c 30 yards on left.
I don’t know whether Candolim is typical of Goa. If so it’s a classical example of a missed opportunity. It has ample sunshine, good scenery, a beautiful beach, very good cheap restaurants and really nice people. It could be an Indian Florida. Yet, it is falling into disrepair, dirty and incredibly noisy. I believe that a vehicle is regarded as a write-off if it’s horn doesn’t work..
We had a good holiday and the pluses outweigh the minuses. Will we go again? Who knows?
