Excellent Time

Nov 2008, goodholidays

Returned on Monday from an excellent weekend at the Concorde.
Good wholesome british cooking. Good full english breakfasts. FREE bar for three hours every evening !!! Live music. Yes the hotel is a little tired in places but the bedroom was clean and comfortable.
3nts including travel, trip out to Plymouth, breakfasts, evening meal, free drink and accommodation was just over £100 !!!!!! - you cant even get a train down to Torquay for that. The best value holiday Ive been on for years ! - I challenge anyone to beat it, yes the hotel does have some warts but you reall cant beat it.
See you soon Peter and Aileen x

Not Good For Us room 29

We would not recommend this hotel
The room we were allocated was far too small dismal and depressing. The shower was a trickle - awful - way below average facilities.
The food way below average no choice. Quality and quantity left a lot to be desired. Please do NOT sweeten the porrige, some people prefer salt
The bar downstairs where the entertainment was, and the tiniest dance floor - like a garden room with garden furniture awful, uncomfortable not enough seats for everyone. and nowhere else to sit. The upstairs lounge seated 7 people.
The positive - Clean - Bar staff, lovely

A Great Welcome and great atmosphere

Oct 2008, Batema01

We stayed at the hotel for three nights, the staff and the owners Aileen and Peter could not be more helpful and friendly. The building was beautiful and was being sympethetically renevated by the owners, and they are making a great job of it. Our room was beautiful and I did not want to leave. The food was good, and there was plenty of it, served by freindly staff who could not do more for you. The entertainment was way above avarage and the atmosphere in the bar was great. Everyone had a great time and joined in with the fun. I would highly recomend the hotel for coach holidays or for the independent traveler. You could not get better value for money. Its a great place to stay and we will be going back again, Hopefully next summer so we can make use of the swimming pool. I cannot see how anyone could complain about this hotel, as there were 48 people on our coach and everyone thought it was great, and gave it the thumbs up. Not sure what people expect for the price they pay. I have stayed in many more expensive hotels that wernt a patch on this one.

Just enjoyed another great value for...

Aug 2008, Mr R Ramsay

Just enjoyed another great value for money week at the Hotel Concorde in Torquay. (We stayed there over christmas & had a great time).
We've travelled all over England and Europe & must say you can't beat this place for value.
The owners and staff were so helpful and nothing was too much trouble. I asked for an extra pillow & it was there within 5 minutes!
The food is great with ample portions and served by cheerful English staff (makes a change from the miserable Eastern Europeans you get in most hotels these days).
There was quality live entertainment every night which was made even more enjoyable by the half price drinks happy hour! Julie the barmaid is second to none, always smiling & looks like she really enjoys her work. Bought a CD off the entertainer on Monday night - Bob something - I've played it everyday since I got home. I'm surprised he isn't on TV.
The outdoor pool was fantastic - set amongst sub tropical plant and palm trees - who needs to go to Spain?
All in all this is a good quality family run hotel which I wouldn't hesitate to recommend.

Another enjoyable and relaxing stay...

Another enjoyable and relaxing stay at Hotel Concorde! We visited for the first time in February and were very impressed by the progress the friendly owners Peter and Aileen have made on their programme of refurbishment. Another highlight is the new chef; the food was good in February and now is even better. Having grown up on a beef farm I’ve seen a fair few roast beef dinners and yesterday’s was spot on! Must admit I had to double check that the reviewer before me was writing about the same hotel – rest assured you would be hard pressed to find a 3-course meal of such quality in Torquay at that price. Breakfast was good, choice of cereals, plus toast and a fry-up. Excellent toast too, not like the cold thin slices in most hotels! Plus the staff are accommodating and seek to meet requests where possible and the owners are on hand throughout the day and also eat with the guests in the main dining room, which I think is nice. They are friendly and approachable and it really appears to matter to them that their guests are happy – do remember that this is a relatively new venture, Aileen and Peter hadn’t long been there when we first visited and are clearly striving to make the hotel a success. Also, Hotel Concorde doesn’t claim to be a 4 star hotel (nor does it charge like a 4 star hotel) but it is clean, comfortable and you will be made to feel extremely welcome. The hotel is well situated for the station (good green credentials!) and is only a short walk to the beach and town centre. The marina looked absolutely beautiful last night and the walk was refreshing after the lovely meal.
We can’t wait for our next holiday at Hotel Concorde!

I would just like to say that me and my partner realy enjoyed our stay whilst at the hotel. the staff made us feel very welcome. We only statyed from breakfast the one morning but there was nothing to complain about. i understood that the new owners are in teh process of doing the place up and form what they haev done so far it will be lovely.
We were inpressed with the swimming pool and our room its a cheap hotel so you cant expect too much bet everything worked and was tidy!
They offered great enterianment which bein a young couple we found still as enjoyable as the elder couples we were staying with.
i would like to say again we are glad we came here and really enjoyed ourselvs
and we will be back :)

We booked the Concorde on the...
1 / 10
Aug 2008, Mr RR Benson

We booked the Concorde on the strength of the web site which dipicted a clean homely well kept building that offered clean and comfortable accomodation that would suit our family needs (2 Adults 5 year old & 2 year old) what we "got" was far from this;
We arrived to be met by the main front door by the dirtiest fowlest smelling ash tray i have seen. The terracotta planter was teeming with grotty cigerette butts and the smell was that of an old tap room - what a welcome after 6 hours driving!
The owner was very pleasent and showed us to our large family room which consisted of a double bed and 2 single beds. The room, although sizeable had a small shower and wc. The decor was very tired and grubby with wall paper hanging off the ceiling and the radiator was leaking and produced a damp patch on the carpet. The double bed was well used and the mattress had no springs on either side so my wife and I felt like we were sleeping on a slope and often woke to find ourselves slipping off the bed. Every time we moved the creaking was so loud we woke each other up.
Having been impressed by the websites claim that the food at the Concorde is "fantastic" and "lots of choice" - here is what was offered:-
Soup or fruit juice every day then a meat dish or salad most days plus a desert which changed depending on which table you were sitting at. For example our choice one evening was blackcurrant cheese cake; chocolate fudge cake (no offer of hot or cold with cream or ice cream); ice cream (not creamy Devonshire as expected but cheap "flaky" ice cream with no flavour) but the next table got a choice of lemon meringue pie instead of the chocolate fudge cake!!
We had originally booked for dinner but as we were going to do some serious sightseeing we thought that the flexibility of adhoc dinners would suit us we thank the lord we did not eat every day in there as it was truly awful i felt sorry for the large coach party that had to endure this for 7 nights.
Breakfast was pretty much the same combinations of fruit juice or cereal and a cooked breakfast incorporating alternative days of beans, hash browns or tomatoes along with a tasteless cheap sausage but the bacon was very good i have to say. what confounded our disbelieve at the poor quality of the food was that both proprietors were apparently trained chefs!
The hotel had a wonderful heated outside pool but was again let down by general cleaning, ash trays that had not be cleaned out for days that had water in them and reeked! not particularly family friendly. The grounds had a fantastic mature garden but all the plants were overgrown and in need of a trim, this with a little hard work would be a great feature and add so much to the hotel that in my opinion was a magnificent building.
The building is also not very disabled friendly as a steep staircase leads down into the bar and a steep stair case leads up to the public toilet. If the money was available, 2 or 3 bedrooms could be taken out and a lift installed as this would suit many of the guests who need easy access.
I hope that the proprietors have the foresight to see that they have a potentially wonderful building that with some hard work and paint here and there that they will then have a wonderful hotel.

I stayed at the Concorde Hotel in...

Jun 2008, PRAVINA RAVAL

I stayed at the Concorde Hotel in January 2008 on an all-inclusive 5 day break. There was only 23 people on the holiday and by the end of the week , we all felt like one big happy family. The hotel has new owners Peter and @Aileen who made us all feel very welcome on our arrival, they were there to greet us as they were giving us our room keys. My room was just at the top of the stairs and it was warm and comfortable, I had a double bed in my room.
The food was good and the staff was very friendly. I liked the young man behind the bar, he was very charming towards me. I enjoyed the free bar for 3 hours every night and the entertainment was only good on two nights I was there. Wednesday and Thursday. We had trips out to Exeter, Plymouth and Buckfast Abbey. My driver Dennis was very good explaining things to us, he made me feel very special as I was on my own. He went out of his way to help everyone with friendly advice and chat., Dennis has excellent driving ability and we all felt very safe with him.
I would consider going back to the Concorde Hotel.

Jun 2008, Miss P RAVAL

I really enjoyed staying at the Concorde Hotel when I went there in January this year. The owners and staff were really friendly. The hotel has just been taken over by a young couple, Peter and Aileen and they have two young daughters who were there to hand out the keys on the first night and to take our order for the evening meal on the first night.
The rooms was very comfortable and clean and I had two heaters in my room and a double bed. I enjoyed the trips out to Exeter and Plymouth with Dennis the driver. He was very professional in his job and as there was only 23 of us on the whole trip, he made us all feel like we were one big family.
The only thing I didn't like about the hotel was that being on my own, I was placed in the middle of the dining room on my own table and I felt that everyone was looking at me. I felt so self-concious about it. Other than that the hotel was very nice. I liked the Victorian feel to the hotel and I would consider going there again.

May 2008, Mrs A Emmersby

Rooms are really cheap so shouldn't really complain but this place is really grotty! New owners are trying to start doing it up - full skip outside. Cold creepy rooms with vile yellow walls and thin rattley windows. Ghosts at night that tap/knock on your headboard. Useless showers which merely dribble on you and a roast lamb dinner with lamb so thin that it floats on top of the gravy!!!! Alright it you want a cheap stay - I mean the prices are great. Hopefully the refurbishments will turn the place around!!!

We stayed at this hotel last weekend...

May 2008, Mrs C. Deay

We stayed at this hotel last weekend 25th-28th April.
The welcome was warm and friendly, the hotel has a real family feel to it. I have never met such a pleasant set of staff before at any hotel I have stayed at.
The food was varied and the portions were excellant, and a really nice touch was the afternoon cream teas and the evening late supper.
The evening entertainment was well above average!!
Parts of the hotel are a bit dated but the family have lots of plans for refurbishments. These will take some time, but the owners are new and work tremendously hard to make your stay enjoyable, they even took the time to wave us off when we left!!
We will definately stay there again and I am sure it will just get better and better. Peter and Aileen get my vote!!

Mar 2008, Mr Adrian Long

We have been to Torquay with coaching holidays previously, and stayed at some reasonable hotels. This time after a bum numbing journey,we arrived to the warmest, frendliest of welcomes from Peter,Aileen and the family, handing out keys and taking the menus for that evening. The rooms are warm and clean and comforable in need of a little TLC.But my wife Linda and i were not there, to give points on interior decore.
We were there to enjoy ourselves and enjoy ourselves we did, evening meals were of the three course variety with choices of starters and main course and my favorite the pudding which is why i'm so thin (17 Stone) all served by the most polite& friendly set of young people i have ever met. There's a family feel to the whole hotel,Then there's the entertainment what a set of characters garanteed to make you howl with laughter and you get to join in,At this point i would like to introduce the bar staff, the beautiful Julie rumours are she has telepathic powers just before you think you need a refill its already there,it's magic shame she's married, anyway there's also Richard who is getting very close to the master Julie at suppling refills (by the way did i mention that there's a free bar from 7 to 10) but that depends on who you've booked with.So to close. I loved the Concorde Hotel the people who own it ,and the people who work in it are second to none.We are already planning a return visit if i can get any more holiday's from my firm. On the risk of getting hung next time we come we loved you we think your BRILLIANT. Good Luck and we hope to see you soon, Adrian & Linda Long.
