I have stopped at the Watermill on several occasions and would recommend it. I was born and brought up in Paisley and go back regularly to visit my mother. For as long as I can remember the Hotel has been a popular venue for functions such as weddings and the restaurant and bar are both popular with locals.
The hotel is ideally situated in the middle of town, in a picturesque setting on the banks of the River Cart. A series of small waterfalls known as the Hamills flows past the rear bedrooms of the hotel and these are pretty when lit up at night. The rooms are clean and comfortable and the food is very good.
Paisley is a large town in its own right with a population of around 75,000. It has a very photogenic Town Hall, and let’s face it, there are not many of those around; an Abbey which was built in 1163, a Museum and Art Gallery which houses one of the finest collections of Paisley shawls in the world, an Observatory which is open to the public and last but by no means least, one of the finest Baptist Cathedrals in the whole of Europe. So, a lot to see in the town itself.
Paisley is also ideally situated for touring the beautiful West of Scotland, being only a few minutes away from the M8 motorway which can take you to Glasgow in just over 10 minutes, Loch Lomond in just over 30 minutes, the scenic Clyde Estuary the same and even Edinburgh is only about an hour away. Glasgow Airport is actually situated in the outskirts of Paisley and Prestwick Airport is only about 45 minutes drive away.
So, if you want a good central base to use to explore this part of Scotland you could do a lot worse than stay at the Watermill.
