After the disappointment of being transferred from the 4 star Valamar Diamant to the 3 star Valamar Rubin because of overbooking we were not too pleased with the treatment from Cosmos, But after several emails we were promised an upgrade room in the Rubin, Well on our arrival we were more than pleased to see a very clean reception area, we asked if the room had been upgraded and we were told "Yes",
The room was a little small but very nice overlooking the Brulo beach (Lido), The maids were very efficient and kept the rooms spotless, The pool area was large with plenty of sunbeds if you needed more shade the attendant was more than helpful, the pool bar had all you needed and the sandwich that we had at lunch was brilliant for just over a £1, The hotel was missing the little extras that we like in 4 star hotels : POOL TOWELS, CUSHIONS ON SUNBEDS, NO FRIDGE FOR COLD DRINKS, ect, But for a 3 star hotel it was great,
Now I come to the only problem we had and that is the restaurant, It was far too small for the amount of guests the hotel had, you got pushed to pieces trying to get your food, Not what we liked at all, everyone seemed to surge in at 7 (as there was only 2 hours opening time) and we could have waited until 8 but weve always liked a 7pm meal and have never had this problem before.
The hotel staff were some of the most helpful and friendly we have had and nothing seemed too much trouble for them.
The position of the Rubin is in a perfect location as long as you are able to get yourself around as there are many steps to and from the hotel but dont let this put you off as there are many lovely walks around with every so often a bar/cafe and a 20 minute romantic walk along the front into Porec which itself is well worth the visit as it is a beautiful small town with a lovely harbour, from which you can visit Venice for around £50 and had water taxis back to local areas.
All in all our stay at the Rubin was memorable and would return in the future.
