Wedding Worries

From November 17-22 myself and my now husband selected The Grand Palladium Jamaica as the venue for our wedding. Our wedding date was Saturday November 20, 2010 we were expecting this occasion to be one of the happiest in our lives, unfortunately it was not.
The overall appearance of the resort was breathtaking, but other standards were not up to speed. I previously made reservations for my guest to gather at one of the restaurants for a rehearsal/ meeting of family’s dinner. We were unable to meet at the one I chose because it was not open at the time and would not accommodate my group. I didn’t receive knowledge of this until the day of. The wedding coordinator had no recollection of the reservation.
Although we traveled with our own DJ, we had to rent the speaker system from the resort. During the reception, the music was muffled and very low. The guests were also unable to hear the toasts and speeches. The wedding coordinator was unavailable for assistance during the reception because she was in a meeting for a wedding the next day. We also had to share our space with another group; we were separated by a sheet. There music was overpowering our group, making it impossible to enjoy our reception. I was also told by the wedding coordinator that I would have the entire section to myself.
The wedding coordinator also needs assistance, or extra staff. At 6 pm, the reception area was being set up. Cameras were just being placed on tables. It started late and then the guests still had to wait another hour to be served. There is not enough info on hotel activities and restaurant operating hours. The staff needs help with organization and it starts with management. The guests’ rooms smelled like mold, which required several guests to change their rooms. There was a huge lack of communication for our large group, making it impossible for us to all meet up. Guests were divided between the two sides. The wedding coordinator made no attempts to retrieve guests list from reservations manager, who had names to properly room guests at least 2 weeks prior. We reserved almost 20 rooms, and had over 60 guests attending the wedding. Everyone had the same complain, No organization. There was little to no accommodations for the bridal party. We almost couldn’t eat because there is no room service and no take out, so my maid of honor had to plead with staff to take out food. Our pick up was late for the wedding.
As far as the wedding photographer, we were also unhappy with his work. When we were looking over the pictures and discussing the flaws, Mark gave every excuse for the poor pictures. Due to the fact that it was an evening wedding, the sun started setting and he continued shooting. The pictures were dark, unfocused, blurry and slanted. He continued to say that he did not have the right equipment as far as lenses and lighting for better quality pictures. I felt as though he was unprepared for the job at hand. We were unable to pick any of the night shots because of this matter.
One of the most serious issues was my aunt being trapped in the elevator for 45 minutes. There was no alarm, little air and no assistance for the entire ordeal. She had to pry herself out of the elevator injuring her thumb. She is a senior citizen.
Before leaving the resort my husband and I met with Maria Hoffman, Guest relations manager, to try and come to some sort of resolution. We were unable to do so and she agreed to contact us as soon as possible. My wedding experience was a huge disappointment. I feel as though after our money was spent, there were no intentions of fully accommodating us. No one checked on us after the wedding and no one was available for questions or concerns.

Great food, suspect service
7 / 10
Aug 2011, Ace

I must say this was my first time to Jamaica and all in all the food, drink and resort provided a lot to offer. Being on the stairs and hiking 3 floors with luggage was a bit of an inconvenience however the suite was spacious and beautiful. As regards the cleanliness that was not a problem neither. The "stocked" fridge had 2 red stripes which you were supposedly charged if they had to restock your refrigerator. Being that there was a swim up bar right next to our villa I didn't care too much but if you say there's gonna be alcohol in the fridge please have enough to get more than a mosquito drunk. My only qualms are with the service or lack thereof as regards the wait staff in particular the women on the resort. When asking for assistance at dinner or at a bar I was met with rolling eyes, sighs and just taking time in general. In fact I one time asked a woman did she have a problem and was I asking for too much as she didn't seem to be to responsive to my requests. The resort is not cheap and perhaps I had my expectations to high but in paying over $1000 US to stay there I expected to be treated like a king a, prince in the very least. The male bartenders were very engaging, funny talented, etc but even the female friends I was with noted how the women displayed the aforementioned attitude problems. As much as I enjoyed the resort I must say when my time was up I was glad to go back home due to a few bad apples spoiling the barrel. Will I return again that is to be determined but the customer service or lack thereof needs to be noted.

Loved It

This resort is great. First, of all it is beautiful..The staff was very, courteous, friendly, and helpful. The food was great, with lots of options for any palete. The entertainment was fun. Beaches awesome. This resort is huge.
If you are looking to find a flaw, you could. But fun-suckers can do that anywhere. If you are looking for relaxation, music, fun, this it the place to go. Teenager kids loved it. I will be going back and am looking forward to it.
WORST PART OF TRIP WAS 5 HOUR LAYOVER IN ATLANTA, UPON RETURN.

The resort was very nice but is tooo big!! Buildings are spread out, we were given an upgrade to a one br suite in one of the outer villas on the third floor and there were no elevators. Problems getting clean towels and beach towels, was told having problems with their dryers, but other reviews I've read reported the same problem. Was told to make reservations for dinner at the restaurants but when attempted to do so was told it was first come first served, most nights had to wait 1-2 hrs to get seated. The food was good but was served lukewarm. The buffets were good, wide variety of foods but again lukewarm, juices were warm as was the milk. The service was fair. Needed more bartenders at poolbar, had one trying to serve a pool full of people. The resort was clean and most staff was very friendly. They need to hire more staff for the size of the resort. Would not recommend.

The first night assigned twin beds even though we booked a king. No water in the room. poor service. air conditioning broken.
Second night moved to another room. It rained the room flooded, also the jacuzzi above flooded the room. A double whammy! I wondered why the room smelled like mold....
As I was standing in line talking with Gerrardo the manager of the propeerty. He assigned the room to the next lady who wwas complaining about the same thing. So they cleaned the floor and gave it to the next person. wow what a concept...
The third day we were totally exhausted from moving twice, this was also the last night of our vacation.
The staff was poor and unresponsive to the needs of the customer. The worse our trip got the worse the staff became.
Hated it will never go to another Palladium property even if they gave me the trip.
I will blog about this until they clean up their act.
Property is too big and poorly managed.

Worst Vacation
1 / 10
Dec 2008, patwms4u2

Just returned home from day a six day vacation at the grand Palladium. The customer service was horrible. I had issues with bugs in my room, sewage problems and security issues. Suring my stay my laptop was stolen and there was absolutely no support from the resort. I left the resort about 3 days into my vacation. The vacation was totally ruined and I received no follow-up from the hotel or the Lucea Jamaican police.
Think twice about booking this resort for your vacation. I wish that I could rate this resort as a 0.

5 Star??
2 / 10
Nov 2008, BillieHoliday

Ok, here is my review. The food is ok. The food service is even better. The weather in Jamaica is usually good. Sunset Beach is small but nice. There is an abundance of pool chairs and the beach towels are clean, of good quality and there is no shortage of them. The working staff is friendly and helpful. The grounds are clean and the staff keep the beaches cleaned up nicely. That's about it for what is good about Grand Palladium, Jamaica.
Five Star? Someone can't be serious. We stayed during the week of Nov. 15-22 and only had wash cloths provided one of the days. Then, the maid took them never to be seen again along with two days without hand cloths.
They provide house slippers. Better wear them to avoid cutting ones' feet on the sharp tile edges. This actually happened. Our room door rattled like someone was breaking in anytime the wind blows. Stuff something in the edge of the door to stop the annoying rattle. You will just have to endure the moaning sounds of the wind.
We had friends that complained of a water leak in their bathroom. It never got fixed and they were never moved to another room. You can imagine what water on a polished marble floor is like and the house slippers don't give you much traction.
One of our coffee cups went missing after room service, never to return the last half of our stay. It was hard to ignore the peeling paint, cracks and generally shoddy workmanship of the buildings. Missing tiles in the pools were more than just one here and there. Good luck on finding a pool jacuzzi that actually worked. None of them were working during our stay. Even the showers in the spa had missing handles and damaged shower heads. Does anyone even try to repair these things? Does anyone care?
And the entertainment, it was like....what entertainment? If I heard 'Make some noise' from the MC one more time...it would be actual entertainment if the guests would start booing! At least some honest feelings would show. If you really want entertainment, stay in your room and try to watch some tv between signal outages. Or, you can listen to your door rattle, watch your plumbing leak and wonder where the heck are your wash cloths, hand towels and guess who has your coffee cup while you put band aids on cut feet. If you would rather spend time in any of the main buildings, you can entertain yourself by counting all the burned out lightbulbs and missing lamp shades or wonder how some of the ceiling fans stay up with the damaged out of balance blades.
Oh, and try to get a smile or some other normal response any friendly person would normally receive from the bar maid at the Coral pool....good luck.

Just returned from week at 5* Lady Hamilton (inc Jamaica) Resort. Whilst buildings impressive major problems with water supply & sewerage. Also beach is littered with builders rubbish & very stoney. Sea is full of rocks, stones & seaweed. Staff very friendly & food varied but needs couple of years to establish as true 5* resort. Also need to be able to walk distances as villas of 36 suites each spread over extensive grounds.

I was recently at the grand palladium...

Sep 2008, Miss Cd Dunbar

I was recently at the grand palladium where I did not enjoy my vacation. First to comment the food was horrible. There was no entertainment and if they did have one it was horrible.
Not much to do at the hotel. My ac unit did not work throughout my entire stay although I reported it daily. It was even more distressing not having elevators and the place is huge alot of steps to climb.
This place needs quite a few more years before they can please there customers.
