Nice Hotel for families
Just came back from the Dome after staying there mid April all-inclusive with my girlfriend. We were supposed to go to the Anmaria but were transferred here with three days to go (for some reason there were loads of others in the same situation). We read the reviews and were not too concerned however. The Dome was a proper 4* and had nice rooms and grounds which are located right next to a sandy beach. The hotel is located on the outskirts of Ayia Napa so it would not be ideal for those seeking to hit the pubs on the night (although you can get a taxi in town for about 7 Euros). It was one of the better hotels we have stayed at. Room was cleaned everyday and fresh bath AND sun lounger towels were left everyday. Staff were always friendly and very professional. The main problem I had with my stay was that it seemed too geared towards catering for families. On our first night there was only one bar open and the kids were running around it throwing paper aeroplanes until 11pm. Now I appreciate that families are entitled to a drink and the fact that there was only one bar open means the hotel had to cater for everyone, but after a few days it was beginning to get annoying. I mean there was no cut off point so kids were up until their parent went to bed. Furthermore the entertainment was primarily geared towards kids so watch out for Wally the dancing wale and his buddy the dancing flaming shark. This was peak time entertainment. In between there was bingo and a quiz. If there was another bar open it would not have been a problem, but there wasn’t and it was. I assume this will change in full season. The other problem I had was the food. There was 12 salad dishes available which represented a very good selection. These never changed from one day to the next (one for the veggies). The main meal dishes however had only 10 dishes on. 1 always had potatoes, 1 rice, 1 pasta, 2 vegetables, 1 chips, the other contained meat selections which changed according to the theme (fish = worst I have ever had, lamb, beef, pork). There was a separate carvery selection that had roast beef and pork available for carving. It was a bit of a joke saying they had theme nights because I couldn’t really tell the difference between one night and the next. I guessed the French night because the potatoes had garlic in them, the Italian because there was loads of pasta on, and the Moroccan night because couscous was available and some meat dishes had a fruity taste to it. I don’t want to be unfair to the food because I always found something, HOWEVER, I never went back for seconds – something I am famed for on all-inclusives. If you ask me to describe what was missing I would struggle to tell you, I just know I have had better and at cheaper hotels. For me the chefs lacked imagination and I did feel they catered for the British chips, meat and two veg brigade (which no doubt will cater for 80% of holiday goers). Lunches were the worst by far but the salads were fine. Deserts were good. The breakfast was the best I have ever had with a full English available, waffles, toast and omelettes. Tea and coffee were pre-made in pots so there was no jumping up and down for refills. Drinks table service was available at lunch and dinner (do order any excess water at this time as it is free for AI). My girlfriend would like to add she thought the meals were fine and that I have been too harsh – done! Drink! The wine was decent at lunch and dinner when it was ordered by the carafe, at the bar it went down hill. The cocktails were quite nice and the beer was good. They have four bars (1 inside 3 outside) so in peak season it should be ok dealing with queues. Air Con: There was very little when I was there, which meant I was hot during dinner, in the main bar, and during the night in the room. We had the air con in the room set to max but it gave a minor cooling breeze. This I assume will change when it hits peak season. Facilities: As I said the ground was very good. They had two pools one primarily for kids. One outside bar was located next to the kiddies pool which also had a play area which was staffed so this hotel is probably ideal for families. In fact if I had kids I would probably go back to this resort. Overall: A good hotel set in a very good location which primarily caters for families. Excellent staff.
omg it was really good
well, when i stayed at the dome beach resort i was really amazed at how good it was.there was really nice food and the drinks were good.the rooms were clean and hygenic with clean towels everyday and fresh bed sheets. the pool was really cool and usable for all the family even tiny babies ( that can swim ). well the staff were really polite and nice especially to kids, they were helpful and willing to show you where to go. i recomend this hotel to everyone. it was so much fun and i had an amazing time. also really near by was the biggest water park in europe which i went to. it was so much fun and i recommend that even if you are not staying in the dome beach resort then i recommend the water park. the only extremely bad thing was the plane was delayed by 2 days from bournemouth but i still recommend it.
loved it didn't want to leave
stayed at the dome beach last year and loved every minute of it. stayed wih my partner and our 2 children aged 5 and 1, stayed for 2 weeks and my parents came out to us for 1 week and where was something for us all. the staff were excellent and the entertainment staff gave it their all all day every day. the food was good we all really loved barbeque night. they were having a heatwave when we went but you on right on the beach so there is always abit of wind. the hotel is quite a way from ayia napa, its not far in a taxi but we tried to walk one night, and after over 1 hour we took a taxi for the rest. the water park is closer and is great fun not to busy and has lots to do, it is quite open though so cover up or slap the suncream on. while we were at the hotel there was 3 weddings, 2 were at a near by chapel and 1 was conducted on the hotel grounds. all in all i would recommend this hotel to families and couples, we would go back tomorrow and are diffo going back.
good hotel......except management!!!!!!!!!
we are a family of 3, myself, hubby and 4 yr old daughter who stayed here from the 1-8 oct. check in-the hotel interior is lovely all the way through and check in was fairly smooth but the reception staff are sooooo miserable, bordering on rude the whole of our stay. rooms-NOT 4 star, plain, small and only had 1 double bed for 3 of us and when we asked if we were put in the wrong room the maid brought up a fold out hard metal bed so hubby had that!! small balcony but good shower. food-never had a problem. different theme nightly i.e italian, tropical, french ect. and a kiddies section with chips, pasta, bolognase, fish fingers ect. table service very good, loads of seating inside and out. good choice of drinks but you have to pay for water so order a couple of free bottles with dinner to keep. pools-only used the kids pool which is brill with slides and inflatables. always seems to be activities on during the day. clean and tidy, sunlounger 'reserving' a problem though. only quibble is the pool toilets, need checking and cleaning more often. one day there was poo on the floor!! beach-awesome! 2 beaches, left for swimming, right for watersports i would say. perfect for kids, clean, clear and shallow. entertainment- for kids great, disco and 'mc j'. staff are great with the, really patient. not so good for adults but the team are brill at what they do. mia and mark are amazing. they should be on the west end! my daughter fell in love with carlo who was excellent also. those 3 made the holiday for us. now to the bad bit!!!! the hotel is run badly and the management are awful when you have a problem. i.e beds and safe not working. on our last day we were told to pay £100 for a door we supposedly broke in our room!! however the crack was there when we arrived and when we told him to ask the maid she said ''it wasn't there yesterday''! funny that...we came to the conclusion she did it by accident as that morning she asked what time our bus was and it was reported after we were supposed to leave but we left late. i was then threatened to be arrested if we didn't pay and called a liar but the TC rep sorted it so we could go home and it be dealt with from there. never heard another thing! AWFUL, AWFUL end to a good week. All in all a good family place but needs new management.....i won't be returning!!!!!! sorry for the rant......
dissappointed
myself, husband and 2year old son stayed at the dome for a week. It was our fouth time in Cyprus but the first time at the dome. First good points great pools and being right on the beach was great, the room was ok nothing special but clean. Breakfast and lunch were mostly the usual all inclusive buffet and average. The worst was dinner firstly the dress code men must wear long trousers or should that be some men my husband was sent to change out of a smart pair of cropped trousers while others dinned in shorts one party repeatedly looking like they'd just stepped of the beach women in bikini tops and shorts men in vests. Then there was the food we've stopped in 3,4 & 5 * all inclusive hotels all over and cyprus was the last place i thought we would complain about food but it was very poor. The evening entertainment seem abit disorganised while we were there several nights a dance floor full of children would be waiting for the kids disco to start and it never no explanation as to why.
Do not stay here if getting married!
We booked to stay here as we where getting married at the ayia napa town hall and as there is a lack of good all inclusive hotels in the area, we chose this one. The reviews on this site seemed really good (was rated No.4 last year!) and now notice standards have obviously droped! Firstly, the food is ok but is the same night after night and after 2 weeks you do get quite fed up with it and we decided to eat out for several nights which after paying for all inclusive seemed a waste of money. Also when seated outside you have to walk through the indoor restaurant to the buffet which is about 100 yards and as we have 3 children of 3 and under meant several trips before we could all sit down to eat. They also have menus in the restaurant and at the pool bars which are not for all inclusive guests as you have to pay extra for this. There are also 2 sets of drinks at the bars, those for all inclusive guests which are very watered down and then branded drinks which you have to pay for! The manager at the hotel was extremely unhelpful in arranging our wedding reception. He wanted us to have it stuck up on a balcony which was unsuitable as we had 4 toddlers in our party and could easily fall down 2 flights of steps or completely off the balcony 150 ft up! He did not see our concern and just wanted to charge us alot of money for what he wanted us to do, so we went and booked the local taverna up the road instead! When our friends arrived who where also getting married with us, they had booked adjoining rooms as they had children but where given rooms 2 flights apart and the receptionists would not change this. It was only 2 days later when the thomas cook rep looked into it that he then offered them 2 rooms on the same floor (although not together)! This hotel is definately not a 4 star hotel, and as we had paid £3000 for the privilege where not happy! We did stay in the Honeymoon Suite in the Adams Beach Hotel the night of our wedding, which was absolutely fantastic and the jump up to the 5 star rating was huge. I wish we had just booked to stay there for the whole 2 weeks! Anyway, two good points of the holiday where the pools which where lovely and clean and we had an ideal spot by the kiddies pool and the reps; Mark does a fab job keeping everyone entertained along with leigh etc. and the kids clubs reps where excellent with the kids (my daughter loved Mel etc.). I defintately would not go back to this hotel, not when the Adams Beach is down the road with excellent rates to stay there!
Dome Beach "Easy Chillin"
Reviewer :- Mike Jr. Folkestone, Kent. We recently returned home from a very pleasant and relaxing two week holiday at the Dome. (Myself, the Parents and a freind - all inclusive). Having been to the hotel in September '05, it was good to see that investments had been made within the hotel grounds, namely the tastefully designed new pool, well equiped kids club/creche and pool/beach bar. As is mentioned in some of the other reviews listed here, we found the choice of food a bit limited and somewhat repetitious over the two weeks, and there had obviously been significant cost-cutting measures implemented since our previous visit two years ago. We took this up with the head waiter and hotel managers, who have promised to look into this and will hopefully see fit to reinstate the more extensive and elaborate menus of times past. I understand that this hotel was a family run concern at the time of our first visit, and has now been taken over by Tsosskos Hotels. The hotel is renowned for its freindly, helpful staff, clean and comfortable rooms, great beaches and its close proximity to the clubtown of Napa. It has a reputation for many of its' guests returning year on year so please Mr.Tsosskos, don't ruin this for the sake of a few quid saved on cheap nosh! Anyway, enough moaning about the grub, this place is fantastic for a week or two's chiiling out. The entertainers do a great job and are all lovely people so a special hello and thank you to Carlo, Linda ,Jana, Mark and of course, the lovely Zsofia. (Cheers folks x). All in all a most enjoyable experience. Back next year to relax the knackered old frame again ! Bring it on !! Just one more gripe . . . a pint of "Fullers" London Pride wouldn't go a miss at the bars!!! I know - dream on. . . . . . Mike Jr
Absolutely fantastic!
After weeks of deliberation about which hotel to stay in, we decided to book a family room and the Dome Beach. Upon our arrival we were welcomed and taken to our room, which was a bungalow. The room was a great size and being on the ground floor with a toddler and a 3 year old was brilliant. Our neighbours had children so it was a lovely little community, many nights drinking on the terrace till late!. The food was excellent. The only comment I have is that at lunch they did not serve any cold meats or cheese, with young children I would have liked to have made sandwiches but there was plenty of other food available! The childrens club during the day was brilliant even though my 3 year old just wanted to be in the pool! At the night the kids were entertained with a disco then it was the adults turn with games and shows!! The entertainment staff could not do enough for you, even Linda offering to go to the chemist for me as my child had a bad cough, absolute angel!!! All in all this hotel is brilliant. I have just tried to book for May but cannot get in - gutted!!!
Big Disappointment
What a disappointment. This is not a 4* hotel. We stayed for 2 weeks with a toddler. The room was small and they had to put some furniture in the bathroom to fit in a cot. We asked for a family room and the Thomas Cook rep told us that you can request what you like from the UK however all family, sea view and larger rooms are extra ( cy£7 per person per day and cy£3 for children), we compained and I agree with an earlier comment the receptionists do not care less. When we asked to speak to the manager they would only speak from a back office on the phone through the receptionist !! All inclusive does not include bottled water - the tap water is free and there is a jug of water filled by the cleaner left in your room. There is buffet food served at mealtimes or you can have help yourself chips/pasta with bread left out on a table by the side of the pool if you like hard, dried scraps. If you want to sit on their beach you pay for each sun bed per day. The plates, cups and glasses are filthy, many are chipped with grime in the cracks - we saw other guests taking photos of them for proof. The high chairs were covered in food and never seemed to be cleaned many people complained at this - again nothing changed. At the end of our stay as we had a night flight we asked repeatedly for an extension to our checkout time only to be told to come back on the last morning - which we did and were then told there's nothing available, after much complaining they found a courtesy room and charged us to use it. We visited friends in a nearby hotel called the olympic lagoon and stayed there most days as it was everything you would expect from a 4* hotel and the staff there couldn't do enough. The area around the Dome is typical scrubland with a few shops and 3 restaurants, nearest town is 4 kms away and a walk along the coast footpath highlights how many other good hotels are nearby which put this hotel to shame. I would not recomend the Dome, if you want to stay in the area try Nissi beach hotel or the Olympic Lagoon.
Hot !
Hello everybody I went to the Dome hotel together with my boyfriend from the 21st of July till the 3rd of August. We are in our mid-twenties. It was terribly hot in Cyprus at the time. 40°C all day and at night still 30°C - we could see this in the car of the taxi driver, see I think this is right! Where do I start? We booked our stay a long time in advance through a Belgian travel agent and got a great discount for early bookers. We stayed all inclusive and had a wonderful bungalow room on the first floor. I think the ground floors were reserved especially for families with children. The room was very clean and had a good bed & a nice bathroom. We had also a balcony with two chairs and a table on it. From the room, we could see the sea. Breakfast was really delicious - waffles, pancakes, eggs, croissants, bread, honey, fruit juices, good coffee, yoghurt,... Everything you wish for on a holiday! For lunch there were two choices => the main restaurant had a warm and cold buffet and the snackbar near the beach had a smaller fast food buffet with vegetables, pasta, pizza,... In the evening there was always a theme night such as : mexican, italian, cypriot, bbq,... Everyting was well cooked by the chef and tasted delicious all the time! And then there were the drinks... all cocktails were inclusive... and really strong... if you don't think so, ask for a double and you will taste the difference! I gained 5 kilograms when I came back, I hope this says enough about the food and the drinks!!! The swimming pool we didn't use, because it was too hot to sit there. In the evening to cool down, we used the outdoor jacuzzi in the second pool, that was fantastic! We rented a beach chair on the main beach and went twice to the beautiful clear water beach next door! Very Caribbean if you ask me!!! One day we went for a walk to Nissi bay. The beach is very beautiful but really crowded and full of people between 15 and 20 years old. The beach is full of disco bars and they play loud electrical music. It was nice to see, but not for being there every day. A couple of evenings, we went for a visit the ayia napa-city... there is not so much to see. One evening we went to GURU BAR. It is a really stylish restaurant and cockail bar to chill out and enjoy great music. It is really worth a visit, but be aware to dress up a bit to go there. We enjoyed our holiday in Cyprus, I hope you find my review useful!!!
