Sarova Shaba Hotel

not so good as the other lodges we had stayed in through kenya although the lodge itself was lovely and the setting beautiful i found the staff not overly friendly apart from our waitress who was adding a little more to our drinks bill at dinner without our knowlege and the food was just ok unlike other sarova lodges where as the food was great and staff very friendly i think sarova may need to look into there customer services at this lodge saying this one member of staff was friendly the barman he hopes to set up his own restaurant i wish... more

We stayed at Sarova Game lodge for 2 nights during our honeymoon. The hotel was gorgeous as was our room, very reasonably sized with the river right beyond the patio area at the back. We were very lucky to have elephants come down to the other side of the river to wash which made us have the most amazing close up view. There is a lot of wildlife here including lots of monkeys which you have to watch out for as they're very mischievous but the hotel give you guidelines on that. The Sarova Shaba was an amazing place. The rooms were built in treehouse like buildings. We were in room 12a upstairs, it was huge and beautiful. The view of the river was great. We would watch the huge storks and crocodiles on the river banks, while the vervet monkeys played in the trees. The pool area was great and refreshing after a long afternoon drive. Came late in the afternoon after a long drive from Nairobi. Too late for an afternoon game drive. But the staff were waiting for us and had ready a very welcomed moist towel and a wonderful late lunch. The logde is situated next to the river Ewaso Ngiro in a wooded environment that gives a welcomed shade. Running water around the buildings cools the air. We can happily give the thumbs up to this absolutely wonderful lodge. It is idyllic and what excellent value for money. It was the perfect start for our 6 day safari with Somak and can happily recommend this oasis. Bugs...what Bugs? What a truly amazing place it is and would most certainly stay there again..just wonderful

When I arrived at this lodge, I was entering a different world than the reserve itself. I heard water everywhere by waterfalls, ponds, river and of course the beautifull cooling swimmingpool where you can sunbath perfectly. The rooms were also spacious and luxureous with, for me important, musquito nets and bug reppelent spray. In the evening there where way to many bugs and I was almost hiding from them in my own sweater. At that point I didn't wanted to be outside and just go to bed to avoid them... Unfortunately, we did not have the great experience at this lodge that others did. It is a beautiful property, but the bugs were horrible. The staff indicated that it was due to the fact that it had rained a couple of days before our arrival. That may be true, but if what we experienced happens every time it rains, then they should find ways to combat the problem. After our game drive, we returned to the lodge for dinner. beautiful property, river, ponds, trees, etc. very accomadating staff good food---in a great setting----a treehouse overlooking river nice pool---great for kids---and young at heart nature walk w/ cornelius ( koite), guide, and patrick , KWS, very pleasant. This was one of the best places we stayed on our two and a half week safari. The grounds were beautiful, the rooms were the nicest we had the whole trip (it had fans!), the staff were very friendly, and the food was excellent. I wished we could have stayed longer here.
