More Traveller Reviews of Blue Bay Deluxe Complex
never again
from janice077
after arriving at 5 in the morning we booked in only to be told to go to next hotel for the key to the room (we were in a different hotel to what we had booked) good start to the holiday, the room was dingey and we had to go blue bay for our meals and drinks as there was nothing open in the hotel they put us in, the food was cold with the same things being served every day, the snacks were sausage rolls and the left overs from lunch or evening meal, the staff were unsociable and the rep... who we saw only once didnt have a clue what she was talking about, she told us the entertainment was good.... we are still waiting to see it, all inclusive have to go outside for drinks as they dont have a pump inside. The only thing that made the holiday bearable was the lovely family we met.... and to them i would like to say a big thankyou
3 star trying to be 5
from syddor
Be aware when chosing this hotel as despite being tagged as a 5star complex it would hardly rate as 3 in the uk. The animation team was poor. In mitigation for the place we didnt pay very much so I suppose you can say you only get what you pay for.
amazing
from lauraWigan
went here with my boyfriend, little brother, mum, dad and grandma. At first we read the reviews and thought we made the biggest mistake of booking this holiday but it was one of the best holidays for me. 1) loved the waterpark it had a great atmosphere and people at the drinks stand were really polite and friendly. On of the women that worked at the hotel helped out here and loved my little brother to bits she was always talking to us and was really good with all the kids. 2) the food is like it is everywhere it suits some and doesn't others. I can honestly say that my brother is a fussy eater but when he was here he never stopped. Theres pizzas, chips, pastas, greek food etc. 3) mum and dad said planes were loud but airport was only 15 minutes away but i slept like a log. 4) the beach was pebble which i wasn't keen on but everyone was always in the sea. 5) staff were helpful and really nice. There isn't really loads of places go around there but nice if you enjoy walks and if your planning on going on trips i would recommend the turkey for a day, lindos and butterfly valley. Lindos is on the otherside of the island with lots of shops and theres also acropolis what you can walk up to see the ruins the views are breathtaking, turkey is good for the shopping but some people try to mither you in the shops just say im looking and leave the shop this happened twice. Butterfly valley is really nice were you can take lovely pictures and also you go to tsambaki beach which is a full sandy beach all of which are great value for money. If your really paranoid about going don't be you'll have a fab time.
BEST HOLIDAY WE EVER HAD
from hulahooloo
We have 3 children 12,7 & 8 at the time of the holiday and had some reservationswhen we read some of the reviews but were very pleasantly surprised .All the staff were 1st class from reception ,cleaners and restaurant. The food was 1st class, plenty of choice for every meal, but be warned no swimwear allowed in restaurant and quite right too!We couldnt believe how many people wore caps/hats in the restaurant, how rude!!Plenty of sun beds both poolside,on the beach and in the fantastic waterpark-a must for all ages and free if you book all inclusive. The room was spacious and clean with lovely views. The weather was hot,the beach is private to the hotel so is not too busy and the beds are free. There is a very shingly patch as you enter the sea so you will definitely need something on your feet to go in as it is painful, but worth it-fantastic for body surfing-not reccommended for very young children.Dont pre book your taxi from the airport,it is at most only 10 mins ride and cheaper to just jump in when your plane lands.Local bus service is good and cheap, would reccommend hiring a car to see islands other beaches. The hi-lite of the holiday was the entertainment staff, they are all so hard working from morning till night and the nightly shows are a revelation, so funny and professional.there is something to do all day for both adults and children but dont worry if you dontwant to join in they leave you alone.Billie and Babboo are brilliant, Billie is multi lingual, happy to help at all timesMy kids loved the lot of them, couldnt keep them away from the kids club..The all inclusive bar is well run and well stocked with spirits and beer, wouldnt reccommend the wine though!Snacks all day for those who wanted them although the meals were so good we hardly ever botheredKids can help themselves to ice cream and drinks..This is the best holiday we ever had and will definitely be going back
Blue Bay Entertainment team made this one of the best holidays we've ever had.
from NewcastleNic
The entertainment team (Billy, Babboo and the others) made this holiday so much fun and enjoyable for all of us. We participated in things we would not normally do, so did my son and we spent 2 weeks laughing. The food is just standard and the accomodation is OK. The aeroplanes do fly low over the hotel, but there weren' that many in May and my boyfriend and son loved it, to be able to see the planes so near. The drinks are the normal A.I. watered down that you get in most A.I's, so you just have to drink more of them! but we will definately be going back this year for the entertainment and enjoyment. Even if you don't go in for the whole activity thing, Rhodes Town is only 10minutes away and a beautiful place to visit. Nic.
Fab family holiday!!
from Sharman500
We arrived at the hotel in the early hours and after reading some of the reviews for the hotel we were expecting the worst. We shouldn't have worried at all!!!! The two gentlemen on reception were fantastic and quickly brought smiles to the faces of our 2 tired children. We loved the holiday and would be tempted to go back to this hotel, we stayed for 2 weeks all inclusive and I would agree that the food does get a little repetative at times. We did venture out on a few occasions and were a little disappointed that alot of the surrounding bars have closed down, we were told that this was due to the fact that the Blue Bay had gone all inclusive in the last couple of years and it had a knock on effect to the local bars. However we found a lovely resteraunt called Pegasus which is well worth a visit, in fact we are still in touch with the owners, they were fantastic. Back to the hotel, it was lovely and clean, very modern and spacious, I would agree that many of the customers do appear to be German, this didn't bother us and they were always polite. There are plenty of activities going on during the day, you are not pestered to join in but I would recommend that you do as our kids really loved it and we also made friends of different nationalities this way. There is a kids club which our daughter enjoyed going to during the day when the sun was at its hottest which left time for us to chill on the sunbeds. You would have to be up very early to stand a chance of getting a sunbed around the main pool, these did seem to be occupied by the germans and they always had the same beds, not quite sure how they managed that! We did find that around the kids pool there were always beds available and it was much quieter at this side which suited us, our kids are 4 & 8yrs old so the kids pool was ideal for them to swim in as the main pool did seem very deep. We had read that you had to pay for sunbeds but in two weeks we were never asked for payment around the pool or on the beach. The beach is mainly pebbles along the shore so you will need to take swim shoes alough you can buy them in the hotel shop. We were there in October and the sea was still warm. The drinks at the all inclusive bar were fine, I dont know why eveyone seems to write bad reviews about them, the local beer was nice. Kids could eat as much icecream as they wanted and drink juice all day. Drinks were served in a plastic cups around the pool area but I would have expected that anyway for safety. Entertainment is over by 10pm which we were a little disappointed with, they did sometimes have something on later in the cocktail bar but to be honest if you are going with young children they will be ready for bed by then anyway. There is some kind of nightlife that takes place in the nightclub / bar in the basement but we never stayed out that late with having the children with us. Overall I would say that if you have young children and want a holiday where you can relax and feel safe then I would say that it is worth a visit. The hotel is out of the way but taxis are v cheap and reception are more than happy to order you one. Dont bother booking expensive tranfers as there are plenty of taxis outside of the airport and it is only a few mins from the hotel. There is some aircraft noise and the planes do seem to fly very low but again we didnt have a problem with it. Pay a visit to the water park, we has 12 days free entry and the kids loved it, if you have some spare cash I would recommend that you try the big waterpark at Falaraki, there is a free bus that runs from Rhodes and we had a great day out there with a lovely couple that we met at the hotel. I have never written a review before however I felt that I needed to because I think that people are far too hard on this hotel and people only seem to write reviews if they want to complain. A holiday is what you make it yourself and ours was great, there are always small things on any holiday that you dont like but we enjoyed ours and I would recommend this hotel for families with small children and teens.
5*!! Not a chance!
from NorwichKarma
Just returned from a week All inclusive at the Blue bay hotel in Rhodes. This is definately not a 5*, i say more like a 3*The hotel is predominately German and Swedish, only saw about 3 other english tourists the whole time. The reception staff were incredibly unfriendly and unhelpful. They just seemed to get annoyed whenever you asked them something. A couple of examples...We asked if they could phone us a taxi to visit Rhodes town and the receptionist replyed that they couldn't help us as they had no phone!! ( in fact her collegue was speaking on the phone at the time!) Another day i asked about entry to the waterpark (which we had 6 days free admission to but were never told about on arrival) She abrubtly told me that there was nobody there (middle afternoon) and continued talking to her collegue! I asked again and she made a telephone call and after a brief conversation turned to me seeming very annoyed and said we had 6 free days pass but leave by 5 because they close. I never bothered. We never saw our rep either not the whole time we were there so didn't have any information abut the resort. Luckily we found a friendly greek bar and the owner gave us some info and even phoned a taxi for us. Overall the resort is very quiet and nothing much to do and if it hadn't been for the "Ideal bar" would've been quite boring. Had some great nights in there. The beach is gritty and stony and sometimes there was an awful smell of sewers! You had to pay 3 euros each for a sunbed on the beach and around the pool in the hotel which for all inclusive is a rip off! The food was pretty poor, either luke warm or cold and the resturant was like a school canteen, people pushing and shoving and trying to grab as much free stuff as they could. It was almost always difficult to find a free table. One night we had eaten our main course and got up to get a dessert, when we came back someone had taken our table! Meal times were just stressful so we ate out most of the time. The main bar in the hotel was not included in the all inclusive, you had to go down to the beach bar to get a drink. Once i went to get a drink from one of the help yourself machines and a holidaymaker came over to me and shook his head telling me not to drink it indicating i might get sick!! We decided not to bother after that and bought our own drinks. The only good thing about this hotel was the size of the room. We had a family size room with a bedroom and separate lounge which was nice for the 2 of us. The aircon worked too, which was a godsend as it got really hot sometimes. The view was also good, sea and land. We had some amazing sunsets whilst we were there, great watching them from the balcony. The planes were very frequent, every few minutes some days and were so low you could read the writing on them. You kind of got used to it after a while though so it didn't bother us too much. We booked the room again for our last day as we had ridiculous flight times, which cost us another 50 euros! Pricy but worth it rather than hang around the hotel lobby with the unfriendly staff until all hours! Would never go back to this hotel or resort again and wish we had gone self catering as we spent just as much eating and drinking out!
This is not a 5* star all inclusive hotel.....
from ClaireW1973
This is definitely not a 5* Star hotel and certainly not all inclusive. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone. We booked this holiday as a last minute deal as we were unable to go to Cuba because of the weather. We wanted 5* star luxuary we got 3* star at a push. If you want to spend your time being pushed out of the way and having people being generally rude to you - this is the place to stay as it is predominately a German hotel. Something not advertisted on the website. We didn't see an English Rep from any tour company the whole 10 days we were there. My general review of the hotel. If you are going all inclusive take plenty of money with you, you'll need it. The sunbeds are three euros a day each, the all inclusive drinks are only available at the snack bar by the pool. They are watered down and you would need to drink a hell of a lot to even know you had had an alcoholic drink. There was usually only one person serving at this bar so be prepared to queue. If you wanted to drink in the main bar or the disco you had to pay for them. The food in the snack bar is in edible. You have to pay for your secuirty box in your room at 30 euros for 10 days and their were no free towels by the pool, maybe I am being fussy but I have stayed in a fair few 4 and 5* star hotels around the world and these are things you come to expect to be included in the price of an all inclusive. The food in the restaurant was repeative and quite often luke warm/cold - they provide a microwave to heat it up so they must be well aware of the problem. There was never any themed nights with the food although often advertised apart from Greek Night which you are also expected to pay for. The waterpark is tiny although worth a visit as there is absolutely nothing else to do in or around the surrounding area of the hotel. If you like plane spotting this is the hotel for you, the planes fly so low over the hotel you can see the people at the windows. No chance of a conversation when they are flying over and they fly over every 15 minutes or so. And the whiff of sewage is lovely!! The beach is just grit, no sand so if you have kids don't bother packing the bucket and spade. However the sea is wonderful and crystal clear once you get in it and the sand is beautiful under feet. One positive thing I can say about this hotel is we had a family room for two of us so we had a separate bedroom and living room which was nice as we spent quite a bit of time in our room as the evening entertainment was always over by 10:00 and having to listen to entertainment in German, Dutch and English it was quite exhausting so you were ready to escape once it had finished and boy was the entertainment rubbish but when there is nothing else to do you find yourself watching it. As a final note you must book the courtesy room on the day you leave, you have to see it to believe it. It is a box with so much mould on the ceiling it is disgustingly fithly, thankfully there was only two of us, but my boyfriend still had to get dressed in the corridor as there just wasn't room for two of us in this room and a suitcase.
Relaxing beach holiday
from Lors1980
Just back from The Blue Bay Deluxe in Ialysos, had read alot of bad reviews about this place so we had prepared ourselves for the worst!! Definatly not a 5* hotel as advertised on alot of websites but would say it's pretty good for Greece. Arriving at Rhodes airport was the worst, had to wait ages to get our bags as they seemed to have put all the bags from all the flights arriving on one conveyor belt and you could not get near it! Leaving was a nightmare too, two ques for our flight, qued an hour and a half to check our bags in, and we were near the front of our que! The girl at our check in desk must have been on a go slow coz the other que seemed to be going down alot faster. Just as well the filght was delayed half an hour as there must have been people still checking in when the flight should have been taking off!! Taxi transfer to hotel was less than 10 mins, on arrival at the hotel at 5am, thirsty after the nightmare of the airport we were told we would not be able to get drinking water in the hotel until the shop opened at 7am so be prepared!! Nice clean modern hotel, we had booked a family room with separate living area and sea view. There was only 2 of us which was grand, but would be a bit small for a family of 4. The rooms were modern with air-con, fridge, bath and shower and balcony and the rooms were cleaned daily. Had read that air-con was only free in July and August, we went 4th - 11th September and it was still free which was a nice surprise! The food was what you would really expect form an all inclusive program, plenty of choice, meat, fish, pasta, salads, but got a bit repetitive over the week. All inclusive wine not the best but we were putting a dash of lemonade in the red and it was fine! The dining room does get quite busy but we never had to que very long for food or drinks, only complaint is that German's seem to think they have priority over everyone else and don't seem to understand the concept of queing! Beach was a mix of sand and pebbles, but once in the water its all sand. 3 euros a day per person for a sunbed, which is a bit steep, but if you leave it till after lunch you might get away with not paying!! Windsurfing and jet ski hire was available on the beach. There seemed to be plenty of sunbeds available around the pool, but we avoided there as there is always "fun" activitys going on and the cheesy music is very loud!! The hotel has alot to offer if you have young kids with you, entertainment wise, and there's a couple of shallow swimming pools for wee kids. Make sure you take cash with you as the nearest cash machine is a 20 min walk. We were down to our last 5 euros so walked to the cash machine but it was out of money!! We were then told the other machine was 3km away. All in all we thought it was a good holiday, weather was fantastic and we just relaxed and chilled out on the beach. Wouldn't like to go in July/August as can imagine place would be far busier.
5 star ha ha ha

Got back this morning from the Blue Bay. A last minute break as we holidayed without the kids this year and missed it, so booked this at a couple of days notice before they went back to school. We booked through Youtravel.com and explained to the guy on the phone that we had 2 couples, 2 x 15 year olds and an 18 year old that all needed separate bedrooms. He recommended 2 family rooms as they had 2 separate bedrooms in each one (he had stayed there so he knew!). We booked an all-inclusive break expecting 5 star luxury and separate bedrooms. On arrival at 3am an extremely rude male receptionist sent us to our rooms and (as you can see in the pictures) we discovered that actually family rooms were one room with a stud wall in the middle, with a great big window and a door into what they called the separate bedroom. My 18 year old had to actually walk through our bedroom to get to his and the 15 year olds had to walk through our friends room to get to theirs (cramped style for the teens and pyjamas to bed for the adults!!). Where the wall was a new addition they had also neglected to mention that this meant there was only air con in the first room, no plug sockets in the second, and no proper window to the outside world in the first. We tried to speak to the rude receptionist but he told us to come back tomorrow, he was busy!! The next day we were told basically "tough", all we could do was pay for another family room at 90 euros a night, which obviously we had to do. We then went on to learn that in this "all-inclusive hotel" you had to pay for the sunbeds and drinks were only free in the pool snack bar and dining room, you had to pay at the main bar and in the disco. We asked if we could upgrade to a different colour band as a lot of the germans and russians seemed to have different colours to the Brits, but we were told this was not possible. In summary, steer clear of this hotel, the food is ok but bland, repetitive and definitely not what you'd expect of 5 star, the breakfasts were awful (tinned fruit, stale cereal and frankfurters) and the dinners didnt have any specialty dishes or themes. The staff were the most miserable, unhelpful and rudest we have ever encountered and the hotel is not really in walking distance of anywhere so you cant even escape without spending more money on cabs or a car. We have always loved the Greek Islands and the people but Rhodes has definitely changed our opinion and we would never go back or recommend it to friends. As a bonus, i have also uploaded some picture of the planes that went over about every 15 minutes 24 hours a day, they were so low that you could read the serial numbers of the bottom of the wings and you had to stop your conversation until they had passed. On the plus side, the rooms and complex in general were in quite good condition and clean but this did not make up for the poor beach and terrible view from the balcony (see pics) !! Our last minute break cost as as much as our 2 weeks in Antigua in July and I know where i would rather have been... We felt so sorry for our 18 year old (as we had persuaded him to go) that we paid for him to get a flight home early on Wednesday.
well what can i say if you have no problems i am sure you will be fine but if you do your on your own.we had ground floor rooms 28 and 29 the owner turned off the air con even thou it was 30 degrees at night the manager said sleep with the window open.I was ill so i was in... more
