We stayed in the Hotel Neptun part of this resort , which was the lowest star rating out of the accommodation in the resort. We were very impressed and wondered how the higher starred accommodation could have possibly been better, as we were delighted with the hotel.
Our room was clean and we had a lovely view (all rooms have a sea view), the hotel room had a tv, mini bar and free wifi , which i know is not important to everyone- but we found it handy to upload our holiday photos online.
We had room service twice and it was excellent , the staff are so helpful and friendly and they really cant do enough to help, they advised us on bus route and ferries as well as lending us a corkscrew so we could open some wine!
From the hotel there is a bus stop at the end of a path and from here there are buses to the old city , they run every 15 mins and you want the 5 or 6 i think, the bus drivers are also very helpful.
The hotel pool was nice and you can even borrow beach towels, the beach area was nice too although in Croatia they don't really have many sandy beaches,and sunbathing is done on and around rocks , but this means that the water is so clear. You also get bar and snack service around the pool and beach area , which is handy.
In Dubrovnik old city we went to many places that were recommended in the Croatia edition of Time Out , the best resturant was Arsenal which is in marina in the city walls, also we enjoyed the Buza bars which are on the rocks and are accessed through doors in the city walls. Also lovely was the D'Vino wine bar , they are so knowledgeable about wine and have 80 wines available by the glass which is a rare find in Croatia as most places only sell house wine by the glass.
Excursions that are available from Dubrovnik include Lokrum - an island near Dubrovnik , we highly recommend it and its a great way to get away from the heat as well as an opportunity for some great snorkelling. Also you can go to Mostar , in Bosnia and Herzegovina - we did not go on an excursion from Dubrovnik , but we visited it on the way to Dubrovnik (we did a road trip around Croatia), the bridge is beautiful and Bosnia is a lovely country.

We stayed at Neptun Importanne for a week in connection with a wedding elsewhere in Dubrovnik. We found the Hotels only selling points to be its view and location. The food in the restaurant Zoe was at times unedible. The waitors did not understand us, constantly gave us the wrong food and was clearly annoyed when we wanted the right food. We had chicken that tasted so much of fish that we could not eat it. Found an basic lack of knowledge about food and service. Breakfast was the only 4 star element on our holiday. With friendly and serviceminded staff. The bartender at the Beach Bar was VERY rude. And went as far as being insulting at times. We where a large group (40+) and nearly everyone had problems with him, some almost ending in physical confrontations. When leaving the pool wearing a bathingsuit, sarong and a towel, the manager told my fiance "nice outfit". We did not enjoy our stay at this hotel and are left with the feeling of paying a lot of money for low quality and bad service. The childrens pool was closed most of the week, to the dissapointment of our children. Pool equipment and surrounding area left a lot to be desired when maintenance is conserned. One in our group cut herself on the parasols as they would not stay in place and had to go to a hospital. The restaurant was overrun by wasps. The staff knew where the waspnest was, but did nothing to remove it. Aircon in our room did not work and was never fixed. The list goes on and on.. Some positive things; the room-cleaning was good, the reseption staff was friendly and service minded. The bartenders at the lobby was very friendly and showed a genuine interest in their customers. Also the hotel taxi gave excellent service. We do not feel that we can recomend this hotel to anyone else as long as the hotel does not make some serious changes in their attitude and service policy. We have travelled a lot and have never been annoyed enough to write a negative review before. Which means our stay was pretty bad.
