Colonia De Braganza Hotel

It was like staying in a cell, the 7" bolted lock and padlock which you had to open and close every time you entered the only thing that was missing was the window in the door. It is a tied and dirty hotel. The staff on arriving were friendly and gave the lip service of we hear to make your stay as pleasant as we can. The towels were so old and disgusting that we went out and bought our own. We asked for an extra pillow only to be told that tough the hotel is full and we do not have any. We had a great time here,the staff were great, and the manager was a very nice guy. The rooms are basic but very clean, linen changed every other day. Entertainment was okay Donald and Gracie were very good. We will be going back.

I was not very happy with our travel agent when they switched our booking to this hotel. I read the reviews and was a bit worried about it as it was our first trip to India. People going on about open sewers and poor service. Nonsense! Yeah the street is a bit of a mess outside but you're in India for goodness sake! The whole country is like that! This hotel leaves a lot to be desired. We were robbed of our cash (400 sterling and 400 travellers cheques) from our room on our first day. Apparently it was known that we had not purchased a safe deposit box but this was due to late arrival and we were robbed at breakfast before we had time to organise ourselves. hi, I just returned from a 6 day trip to goa with my family. I just loved goa. we stayed at the braganza resorts in calangute goa. It was holiday season.We did not have reservation before hand, so we had to ask the taxi fellow to take us whereever he thought best and he brought us to this resort. since it was near to the beach we booked a room in it. Although we have been all over South East Asia this was our first time in India, so we thought we knew what to expect. On arrival our first impression was good, located down a side road, only a few hundred yard from all the shops and restuarants (although side road was filthy). If you like staying at a place with a disgusting open sewer on the entrance road, where you can watch the giant rats scurrying around the gardens, surrounded by the stench of burning plastic and rubbish every evening, then this is the place for you. Its a noisy, filthy, stinking hole. Watching new arrivals demanding to be moved (we saw a near mutiny by one large group)is really entertaning - by far the best thing about staying here. We stayed here last Jan/Feb.We had a shock when the taxi drove us into the heart of calangute as we had only ever stayed in Candolim before.The room we were given was in the old part of the hotel and it was just so awful.Really dark and depressing.I wouldnt even open my suitcase.We went to see david the manager who promised us a room change as soon as possible.We waited 3 days but eventually we were relocated to the more modern wing and it was fine.The breakfast isnt much but there is a lovely place called The Chippy (would you believe)just... more

We booked Xmas and New Year 2004/05 just 3 weeks in advance so choice was limited. Having been to Goa before we knew what to expect. The Braganza is very much a 2 star hotel but as it is just a 2 minute walk to the main road of Calangute the location was ideal for us. We previously stayed at the Nizmar which, although a better hotel, was a bit of a trek to anywhere. We stayed this hotel in January 2005 and there are a few things I would like to mention. The first hotel room we were offered was hideous. It seemed to be a room that was a 'back up' room rather than one that they'd put anyone in. The window was broken and the walls were badly scuffed and there was a general dirty feel to the whole room. We asked, straight away, to be moved and the manager came to look at the room and agreed that we shouldn't have been put in there. They moved us the very next day and the room we were given was lovely.... more
