I have holidayed several times in Turkey together with many times elsewhere around the globe so here goes a totally candid opinion about this hotel hoping it helps you make the most of those 2 weeks holiday you have saved for all year.
Firstly there is absolutely nothing to do in the Miray Hotel in icmeler. I repeat NOTHING. If you remember only one thing from this review remember that.
Unlike every other hotel I have stayed in from as far as the Caribbean to the South of France it doesn’t even have a couple of shelves of old paperbacks for you to read. Want a paperback? Go to the mini supermarket stuck on their side which sells all the books left in rooms for £2.25 each. They even had a part finished crossword book for sale (classy hey?)
Kids bored in the day? No TV room. No games room. No play station room.
Fancy a drink by the pool? The pool bar is closed all day.
Fancy a sit and a chat with other guests? No lounge. No armchairs.
Internet? Sure, one PC and you pay 5 lira an hour. The keyboards Turkish and drives you mad. After about 9 at night make sure you ask them to turn the lights on by the pc or you have to sit there in there in the dark.
Want the kiddies to play in the water? The kiddies pool is about 4 feet in diameter and ten inches deep. The ‘main’ pool a steady 5 feet deep.
Want to know just how stimulating this place is? Is has 26 sun loungers by the pool and it is always easy to get one. Nobody stays there. It’s that God awful breakfast and out!
If you like the Michael Jackson dancing waiter or the 4 hip hop break dancing youths or the magic man 30 minute acts that are repeated ad nausea you’re going luuurve the evenings in Blondies which calls itself the restaurant of the hotel! And by the way make sure you join in with the enforced rhythmical clapping.
If you like to have a drink on holiday you will die for the buy one get one free ‘cocktails’ that have never seen a bottle of spirits. (Do they really think that because they put a sparkler in a glass we won’t notice there’s no alcohol in it?) A watered down JD and coke £4.50. Yep you read that right!
Good food your thing? Half board means that you get a Turkish breakfast, olives, cheese, jam, bread and hard boiled egg.
No juices for the kids, no toast, no cereal and the tea was strong enough to paint fence panels with. When asked why there was no juice the manager said “I do not make money from children!”
Halfway through the holiday my son didn’t even bother getting up to eat.
Lunches? Overpriced snack bar food like a dry burger, small chicken wrap or similar.
Dinner. Aha! Here’s a typical Turkish scam we’ve all come to expect! Half boarders forget the usual buffet affair! Oh no what you get here is a quick talk from the manager with a ‘special’ menu showing what you can have. Here is your half board - Chicken and chips, Chicken Kiev and chips, Chicken Massala and chips, Battered chicken and chips, chicken curry and chips, 3 pastas and 3 watery soups. No desserts. You want anything else get your wallet out!
They also have this intensely annoying habit of keeping the half boarders waiting around an hour to serve them so that it makes the restaurant look busy to attract people from the street and also so that you have to pay £2 for a small glass of coke. Or even better £1 for a bottle of iced water that we saw them refilling in the taps around the back! (I bet those who think it’s great here didn’t know about that little gem).
What next? Ah yes. Want some sun oil? Why not pop into the supermarket owned by a cousin/brother etc of the owner who will sell you a half used bottle taken from empty rooms? He has shelves of them. Impetigo anyone?
He will also sell you water or coke at 50%- 75% more than anywhere else because said cousin/brother has put a big sign in the entrance saying no food from outside except the Miray Market. And yes, they will stop you and ask where you bought stuff from like they did my son.
My son’s balcony was three long and 18inches wide. Yep you read that right as well. And it opened into the inside of the hotel. His room was in perpetual darkness.
Anyone who thinks the Miray qualifies as a hotel let alone a good hotel really needs to try going to a real hotel. One that provides a service, doesn’t water drinks down, doesn’t think high-fiving guests at the dinner table qualifies as entertainment and one that sometimes thinks more about guests than how much money it has scammed from them all by the end of the day.
It’s not a hotel OK. It’s just an accommodation block of 61 rooms. You don’t even get a chair in your room. Sit on your bed. The bed coverings consist of one white tiny cardboard stiff sheet.
As soon as you walk through the door they hit you with a massive air con bill and some shuffling manager called Masood will grab you bags and, show you the room and wait FOR EVER for a 5 quid tip. (He also has a penchant for stroking the teenage girls hair at the pool)
From day 1 the Miray is a scam folks. They are adept at squeezing every last penny from you and giving little more than a bed in a very basic room in return. You can get a proper hotel for the money or even a nice apartment. And to be 100% honest I think Turkey has had it’s day now. Pretty much everyone we met said they couldn’t believe how expensive everything had become there now. And I agree. I used to like Turkey but within a 4.5 hour flight range I can find a lot nicer place if I’m going to get nailed anywhere up to £1.25 for a can of coke. We were half board and still managed to get through £100 a day. That means that 2 weeks in what is really a 1 star bedroom block set me back about 3 grand.
Hey ho back to the Caribbean for me. What i find sad/funny is that they will still find enough Brits daft enough to do it all again next year.

- Advice: really nice place to visit, really cheap for shopping but remember to haggle

We booked three rooms at miray, which were all very close to one another. The hotel itself is modern, clean and spacious. The rooms are clean but small but big enough and regularly cleaned. Our Balcony view was a little disappointing at it was directed at a wall. Apart from that the staff are kind and helpful and the pool area always has sun beds and the pool is clean and just the right size. If you have children even better! because the staff are very friendly. There is a computer with internet access which is very cheap per hour. The restaurant next door "blondies" is very nice with nice food and nice staff - lovely breakfast. There is also a little shop next door which is basically open 24/7 with lovely staff and everything food or drink wise being sold. A member of our family had a room at the front of the hotel with a beautiful view so at least we know most have a nice scenic view other than our wall! haha. You can change money at the reception desk which was a good rate at the time and also the air con is £30 per week and you can also buy a safety deposit box. There is a little fridge which is a god send to keep bottled water in. But there is also a little tv which wasn't working at the time but didn't bother us as who really watches tv on holiday? :) All i can say is. If you want a lovely hotel room, with lovely staff and a gorgeous pool thrown in STAY here. Also it is in a prime location as it is in the center of Icmeler and within 5 minutes walking distance to bars, restaurants and most of all the beach!! this hotel is suitable for everyone apart from very picky people.
- Advice: Beautiful, with fun and culture provided. Peaceful but lively. Lovely little town.
- Activities: The dream three bells, dejavu, Hobgoblin - restaurants & bars.
- Good For: Beach

We went to this hotel with the ill fated company vision holidays. Although we had to pay again for the accommodation we were so impressed with the hotel that we have rebooked for next year. We understood why they had to recharge us and hold no ill feelings towards them.
The staff were very friendly and very helpful. Rooms not big but adequate, food served in restaurant outside. Adequate but the restaurant did not belong to the hotel.
However next year it will be in the control of the hotel. This will make a big difference. I would recommend this hotel to all but the very picky.

just got back from icmeler and stayed at Miray. Upset when we got there as mix up with room bookings but as soon as we saw Omar (owner)in the morning , he had no hesitation in changing us to more suitable rooms ( and there were eight of us in our group)
The hotel hasn't got any facilities really but it was nice and clean and the staff very friendly. Rooms cleaned and towels changed daily.
We also asked Omar if our grandchildren could stay with us a couple of nights, and again he was more than happy to oblige, greeting them with ice ceams and let them have breakfast too. ( you wouldn't get that in a big hotel!) thanks for a lovely stay in a small but friendly hotel in the heart of icmeler and only a few minutes to the beach.
