My partner and I just got back yesterday from a weeks stay at the Santa Susanna Resort.
After reading all the negative reviews on various websites, we were a little worried. However, on arriving I'm really beginning to wonder if people are discussing the same hotel! All I can think is maybe it used to be worse and has improved and I've been reading the older reviews? Either that or people like to complain for no reason. Anyway, here is our honest review:
LOCATION: The hotel is located outside the main town area but there is a free shuttle bus or cute train down to the seafront that takes about five minutes. You can walk it in ten minutes though it's not particularly scenic. There is a motorway outside the front but I never heard any traffic noise and it wasn't any kind of issue.
ROOM: We had a room on the 4th floor. It was right next to the lifts so you heard a little noise coming and going. However, it is brief and after midnight it's silent. Only one night were we disturbed by noisy guests loitering in the hallway but after about five minutes, the manager turned up and demanded they return to their rooms.
The room itself was fairly small and appeared to have too many beds in it but it was fine. We had a balcony overlooking a carpark and the supermarket next door but it was quiet. The only major drawback is no air conditioning. We kept the door open all the time but I don't imagine you could do that on the ground floor. However, you can borrow a fan from reception for a fee. The same applies to safety deposit boxes.
CLEANLINESS: The staff NEVER stop cleaning! The rooms are cleaned daily and the bedding and towels are always changed. I tried to reuse the towels but no matter where I put them they were taken and changed. The whole hotel is spotless and no mess is left longer than five minutes.
STAFF: The staff are brilliant! Not all of them speak English but even the ones who don't will joke around with you. The reception staff are great and will answer any questions honestly. Even the cleaners will say hello to you. The bar staff in particular are great fun.
FOOD: The food was decent though a little repetative. However, it was always possible to find something we wanted to eat (and my fiance is extremely fussy!) Breakfast included fried foods (bacon, sausages, eggs etc.) as well as continental (croissants, pastries) and cereal. The evening meal always had fish, pork and pasta (along with other food). The salad was some of the freshest I've seen and the soup was always hot. We saw staff going round checking the temperature of the food and it was always changed when it started to get low. It's worth noting that if you're going out for the day, you can order a packed lunch at reception the day before. It's only sandwiches, water, an apple and an orange but it's worth knowing.
DRINKS: The drink cannot be faulted. It is in no way watered down. In fact, some of the drinks were quite lethal. A Malibu and Coke contained more Malibu than Coke but I'm not complaining! It was great! There is a cocktail of the day everyday (though I also suspected it was the same one with a different name). Avoid the wine. It's vile stuff. The Sangria was great though! Despite most people being all inclusive, I never saw anyone drunk at any point.
ENTERTAINMENT: We didn't really use much of the entertainment but what we saw was okay. Not great but okay. They had karaoke and quizzes as well as a live parrot show and singers. There is a movie every day downstairs and it was the only time I was able to force my partner to watch Mamma Mia with me! Ha! We played the bingo. My advice there is don't bother. It was sooooo slow, I was really wishing someone would win just so it would end! We didn't use the kids club so I can't give an opinion there.
FACILITIES: The swimming pool is fairly small and sadly, people line up of a morning to claim a sunbed! Seriously, they wait for the staff to unlock them! It's sad but amusing at the same time. There is a poolside bar that offers snacks but to get to it you have to walk around the pool which is full of running children and people splashing. When we wanted to use the pool, there was always space for a decent swim.
OVERALL: Overall, we had a terrific holiday. I liked the fact the hotel wasn't on the main drag as it would have been noisy. You get what you pay for in regards to food and room size and I'm sure if you're the type of person that lives to complain, you'll find something to complain about. All in all, I'd recommend this hotel and I would definately return. Ignore the negative reviews. Go with an open mind and maybe pay extra for a fan.
- Advice: Pay to borrow a fan at reception.

absolutely brilliant holiday, but we do go before the school holidays, the staff were fantastic, friendly and helpfull, there is allways someone cleaning something and the hotel is spotless, the food is not to ala cart standards but for what you pay is very good, they could give a better variety, but all tasty, the pool is clean and the area is cleaned up as sonn as a mess is made some people are pigs unfortunately,we arived in may 2011 on our first ever all inc and was not dissapointed, it was the best and most relaxing i have had, that was due partly to who i was with though, we were so impressed we have allready booked a return for our honeymoon in sept 2011 when the kids are in school, and its the first time i have ever been back to the same place, so cant be that bad, the rooms are basicand clean but you only sleep in it what do you want?, the pool i could imagine could get very packed during high season but there is miles of beach to go on,overall it was very good and well worth the money
- Advice: dont have any pre conceptions, just enjoy the surroundings, if the pool is full use the beach dont just moan,

Where do I start, I had a family room which consists of 3 single beds downstairs and 2 single beds upstairs in what I would call a loft room, but the pitch is that low you have to bend over and walk to the bed, the sheets were never changed for the duration of 1 week, the floors never swept just moped every second day and the towels changed the same, this is the least of the problems with this HOTEL, the food is the worst I ever had in my entire life even the bread rolls are not fresh and to add to this the guys taking the used plates throw the leftovers in a bucket in front of you carried on a trolley which just turned my stomach, the entertainment is reasonable and ends at 11.45 the bar stops giving free drink at 12 but you can buy it after that if theres anyone to serve you they only give two drinks out at each time and they are only small plastic cups no pint glasses and then I come to the security they are power mad, they want you to be back in your rooms no later than 1am at one stage I had a security guy telling me and my family we were not getting back into the hotel because it had gone past 2am I ended having a verbal row with him and just heading up to the room. Last but not least check out time is 10am and they mean 10am not a minute later, to end this review if your reading it my opinion is to just choose somewhere else even if its to cost an extra few quid.

arrived at Barcalona airport..no guide on the resort hoppa so had to endure a 2hr bus journey from airport to resort, bear in mind we landed at 10.30pm.we arrived at the hotel and was allocated our room...myself,my husband,13yr old grandaughter and 8yr old grandson.we got to our room and i was appalled this so called family room was in fact a normal sized twin room with four single beds squeezed in all in a row with no room to walk between to make them and certainly not big enough for 4 people to live in for 10 days. The food was discusting..everyday was the same..pork,chicken and fish..occassionally there was pasta and on several occassions we ate out even though we were all inclusive.the pool was small for the ammount of people staying in the hotel at the time...my view is that they were trying to cram to many people into rooms that are far to tiny and i intend to take things further when i get back to uk.hated this holiday and will never come back to this hotel....lloret de mar on the other hand is gorgeous.

- no bugs or spiders or insects in the hotel, all the surfaces and floors cleaned regularly, empty cups and plates cleared up straight away
- staff all very friendly and their english is very good
- id highly reccomend this for families with children as there are lots of other children for them to mix with, and a wide range of entertainment in the daytime and evening to keep them occupied
- very good location for local town; malgrat de mar, and a short taxi journey away from lloret de mar which is good for a night out.
- wide variety of food, although vegetarian option was only salad and pasta which was the same every day
overall very happy with my stay
- Advice: even though evening entertainment sounds a bit naff, it was enjoyable after a couple of drinks!

Arrived at the Santa Susanna Resort Hotel after booking a late summer break. The weather was fantastic al week which is more than can be said for the hotel. The rooms are very basic, very small, no air con but fans can be hired for 15 euros a week and a TV but you have to pay 30 euro as deposit for the remote control - then you get BBC1 and CBBC channels.
The food is disgusting - very repetative and basic no presentation whats so ever. You get plenty of chips, chips and more chips. The snack bar offers 4 choices outside restaurant times but drinks can flow all day and Yes there are some that take great advantage of that.
The swimming pool is too small for the amount of people staying in the hotel and if you don't get up and mark your spot by 8am for your sun bed then you won't get one (you have to see to believe).
There is evening entertainment but again not much to speak of, nor is the daytime activities.
Overall my opion is the hotel is Spain's answer to Butlins.

A group of nine of us (family of 5 & 4) all went to Santa Susanna Resort. We all thoroughly enjoyed our stay. It was VERY clean and food was of a decent standed, we found something to eat everyday even our fussy 5 year old! The entertainment was okay, something on every night but the quiz got a little boring after winning twice but the karaoke was amazingly funny after a few drinks. The staff were very friendly and did everything to make our stay very comfortable. The family rooms were very big and spacious but had a very low roof which we all kept banging our heads on. We especially liked the fact that food was on offer most of the day (Burgers,Toasties,Chips,Hot dogs) so if we missed breakfast we wouldnt have to go out and buy food. The only complaint we had is very small but we do like music to be played around the pool area but nothing some small speakers couldnt fix! The train was very useful to get into town and the beach. We would recommend you to hire the safety deposit and only take as much money as you need that day due to thefts we heard about while we were there but as long as you keep you belongings close to you and in sight you'll be fine.In conclusion we defo WOULD return no doubt about it.

this is an ideal family hotel, not as previously mentioned one for stag and hen's,to quiet for them and quite frankly you are not welcome when you wake everyone up,so try a hotel near the bars and beach.food great, even if you are fussy, very clean, all of the staff are great.didn't want to come home, will be going back

me and my family have been to this hotel 4 times, and having are 5th holiday there in a couple of weeks time and think you really cant complain for the money. the hotel is very clean, drinks are great for all, food has a bit for everyone, pool is good size and theres a supermarket next door and close enough to the beach!only down side is probley the entertainment but it always has something for the evening weather its bingo, karoke. but sometimes we just got the little train down to the strip and looked around there for a few hours and came back. theres always something to do!
me and my family first came here in 2008 for a cheap get away. we realised that not only was it cheap but was perfect for the price! and we enjoyed everything about it. the staff are very friendly and always there to help if you have any problems. on are week there we deffiantly drank and ate more than are money we payed so its great!
i would deffiantly recommend this hotel to any one! not only is it a cheap get away it is very much all you need for a lovely holiday!
hope all you that decide to go there have such a amazing holiday like i have done the many time i have been there!!

The first holiday was in May 2011 for a week. We could not fault the food, cleanliness of the entire complex, and the staff were lovely. Yes, the hotel is situated outside of the resort, but there is a free train throughout the day and evening to take you to and from the resort. The second trip was in September for two weeks. We were not aware that the hotel was close to closing for the "Winter" months, and it has to be said that after the first few days we noticed some lapse in the quality of the food.
There was no butter available (only margarine), no yoghurt at breakfast and rather a lot of pork at each sitting! One such meal consisted of Pork and Noodle Soup, Pork and Kidney Pie (eh?? - the first time we went it was steak and kidney, and very nice it was too) We went out a couple of nights to the "Nou Wok" situated next to Carrefour which was amazing. All you can eat for €11 and cooked in front of you.
The staff were absolutely lovely in the reception, bar, cleaning and restaurant departments.
The boat trip from Santa Susanna to Tossa De Mar is well worth doing at €28, and if you hire a car, check out Santa Christina beach (just before Lloret De Mar)Photo attached.
Despite this, we only paid £470 each for two weeks and £160.00 each for a week all inclusive, so what do some people expect for that sort of money? How many of these moaning minnies have a three course lunch and dinner every day at home with full salad, fish and a choice of two meats?? If you want 5-star, go to a 5-star hotel and pay an awful lot more for it! We will probably visit again.
