My friends and I read some poor reviews on this hotel and Safari holiday but I would like to say that we had a fantastic holiday. We found the staff very friendly and helpful both in the hotel and on the Big 5 Safari. The lodges were really comfortable and restaurant and... more

My wife and I had been considering a Safari holiday for a couple of years and finally plucked up the courage this year. We only booked it ten days before departure and really didn't know what to expect. When we arrived at our hotel we were pleasantly surprised. The room... more

We liked it a lot!
There are a few things that in fact could be better. But for the money you pay you get a very nice holiday (we paid 1800 Euro for two weeks for two persons). The flight was good; even the food in the plane. But there was a four hours wait in Frankfurt on our way to Kenya and nobody got that information beforehand. Our room was very clean and we didn't mind that there was a small gap between the beds; this 1 cm shouldn't be a problem for most of the normal people. We never had stomach problems. In general the food in the hotel is... more
A disappointment
My boyfriend and I went on a 2-week trip to Kenya. On arrival at the airport, you are greeted in a haphazard way and you are separated from your luggage, which is left to chance (the porters will ask for rather incredible sums to ensure their safekeeping) as you are led to a rickety old safari club bus. On the half-hour journey through Mombasa and into Shanzu, you are starting to regret booking the holiday, but to your surprise, you enter the fortress-like resort of Shanzu-Paradise. Superficially and at first glance, the grounds look... more
Well now.....
Well now....this was to be a special holiday and there were some special bits. Of the complexes owned by African Safari Club this was the best. It was quiet, there was loads of room at the pools, the staff were lovely, the views were lovely, the food adequate, the monkeys were fun to watch, the foyer was clean, the mosies were absent! Unfortunately the problems were with African Safari Clubs policies and procedures! Our room leaked in the inside wall and rather than give us a new room we were mopped up or given towels to use!... more
african safari club brilliant holiday dont worry bout prevoius bad reviews
we were so worried bout afc after reading reviews on this site but what a fab hol cant believe how people can complain esp when you consider how third world kenya is!!!!hotel ,staff ,rooms ,food,air-con safari etc etc fabulous our dream holiday!!! we stayed with our two children 11 and 13 at shanzu_ paradise entertainment excellent go see acrobats at show palace! taxi drivers via hotel can provide cheaper trips than afc with more local info but the afc trips are pretty good and safe ! beautiful beach but watch for the beach... more
Paradise indeed!
Facilities:The Paradise Beach was in the brochure as part of a 4 hotel complex, but following an extensive fire in 2003, the site was still undergoing refurbishment. Apparently the Paradise Beach & Shanzu Beach were completed during the summer of 2004, but the Palm Beach was closed, and parts of the Coral Beach were not in use either during our stay. This meant that, although all 6 pools were still available, there were only 3 restaurants (plus 1 a la carte) and 4 bars available, which still gave us plenty of choice. Our favourite... more
Shanzu-Paradise Hotel, Kenya
How do I start! Spent a couple of nights cruising on the msroyalstar before spending a glorious time at the Paradise-Shanzu Hotel. The beach, location and food were simply wonderful. The staff always ensured our stay was comfortable and they constantly went out of their way to please.
Paradise-Shanzu is Excellent!
The grounds are excellent and the white beach is stunning. The food is excellent with a wide choice available at all meal times. After reading previous reports I was dubiousl. As soon as I arrived I realised that these were completely unfounded. Amazing value for money. I will be going back.
It's not all what it's made out to be!
I have recently returned from an all inclusive trip to Mombasa Kenya booked with Africa Safari Club. Firstly I thought the plane journey was of an adequate standard being a chartered flight. The air hostesses were polite and the food was average, however you do have to pay for your alcohol. When arriving at Moi International airport you have to queue up to pay your visa charge (£35). This took aroud 45mins and the Kenyans weren't to bothered that we all had just been on a 9 hour flight and wanted to get out and get to our hotel,... more
Never again African Safari Club
Kenya was fantastic, and this holiday rates as one of our best. However, it had the opportunity to be a disaster thanks to African Safari Club! The transfer bus from the airport was dilapidated, our luggage arrived 2 hours after we did (we took swimwear in our hand luggage). The room seemed fine on the surface, old and tired but servicable. Unfortunatley, not all of the lights worked, there was gaps between the aircon (which sounded like a taxi, not good when trying to sleep) and the wall which allowed masses of mossies in, no nets are... more
An experience not to be missed - despite the food.
Kenya is a 'third world country' - by comparison, Shanzu Paradise is luxurious. The rooms are more spacious than would be found in an equivalent Europen holiday package - if a little spartan. The grounds, ammenities & rooms were kept immaculately by the Kenyan staff, who were mostly helpful, and happy to spend time with you - particularly when you attempted a little Swahili. The entertainment provided could not be heard from the bedrooms. The pool & showers are all slightly salty - DONT DRINK IT Make sure that you have some coins... more
