Came back today from our holiday at the Royal Sun. Were originally meant to be staying at the HTop Planamar but we got changed last minute. Apparently this was a good thing as the Royal Sun compared is alot nicer.
Staff were friendly, well most of the time. They didn't see to kindly to me jumping in the pool at 4am and even threatened to call the police!! Well that was my own fault i suppose so haha.
Food was good, but samey. Chips with every meal. Good if you like normal half board type food, but nothing special. I would recommend going down the road one night to a gorgeous Mexican restaurant!
To be honest entertainment wasnt great. The same thing every night pretty much. The atmosphere sort of went down a bit after someone staying at the hotel died whilst dancing. Not the hotels fault at all, just a little distressing to watch.
If you are looking for good nightlife during the Winter season, best off looking elswhere. Most of the bars/clubs are either closed or empty (exceptions on the weekend when all the locals go out and party!)
Recommend barcelona for the day, but would say to take the train as it is more than half as cheap as the bus from the hotel!
Rooms and everything else were exceptionally clean in my honest opinion. The cleaners did a great job!
Would deffinately recommend this for maybe older couples during the winter, alot quieter and the temperatures were still hitting 20 degrees! Suntan :)

On 3rd November, 2008, my wife and I arrived at the Royal Sun Hotel in Santa Susanna. We were taken to the hotel by bus and delivered to the door of the hotel. We booked into the hotel and spent a nice week there. The room was clean and the room was cleaned every day and fresh towels supplied. We found the staff were friendly and helpful and they worked very hard keeping the hotel clean. The meals were good and varied. We enjoyed all our meals. The entertainment was good and we enjoyed it except when the Spanish took over for two nights but it did not put us off. We had some nice walks and we had a day in Barcelona and the Hotel supplied us with a very nice Pic-nik lunch which we enjoyed very much. The local drinks were O.K. but honestly for the price we paid for the holiday it was good value for money. One minus point of the holiday was my wife and I who are well into our seventies on the day of departure were instructed to take our luggage a journey of about 500 metres negotiate a fair amount of steps with the luggage and had to stand on the pavement outside the Alhambro Hotel to wait for the bus to take us to the Airport. This was quite stressful for us at our age but at the end it all added to holiday experiencies.
In my opinion we should have been picked up at the Hotel, and taken to the Airport from there. We enjoyed our holiday but this hotel is only a 3+ star. Not 4 star.

Have just returned from one week all inclusive at this hotel. Got to the hotel on the Friday night and wanted to come home on the Saturday morning. Travelling with my husband, 4 year old son and 9 month baby. My family and I have stayed in many 4* hotels and this was just a joke.
Afeter being dropped off nearly 400 yards away from the hotel(ok isn't much unless you count that we had to carry 3 suitcases a buggy, backpack and two very tried children) arrived at the Royal Sun to be greeted with a foul stench of poo and a flight of steps to climb before we got to the reception. Then we had to carry our bags up to our room in tiny lifts so this was a two journey job for my husband, isnt much but would you not expect a night porter to be on duty, many of the hotels that my family and I have stayed at offer this facility without hesitation and have gone out of their way to accomodate families.
During our weeks stay I encountered rude staff who would not let me heat up my babys milk bottle because they said that the resturant did not open until 8am,like a 9 month old baby is going to wait. When I took my children down for a snack I went to get my eldest a drink and was told that he could not have fruit juice as it was only available during breakfast and that if I wanted a drink I would have to take my children back up to the bar get the drinks and then bring them down to the restuarant as the bar was not open during snack times. I thought this was carzy as food and drink go together. When I approached the manager of the hotel on this subject I was told that they did not have enough staff to have the bar open downstairs during this time (although I noticed that there was 2 members of staff on the bar upstairs would it have taken a brain cell to have one in the bar and one in the resturant as neither were busy)
The food was rubbish to say the least as it consisted of the same thing for the duration of our holiday. None of my family are picky eaters and will eat allmost anything (my husband and I have tried everything from goat to shark, pidgeon, kangaroo) but to be faced with the same food day in day out was not good for a supposed 4 star hotel. Pig seemed to be everything the menu consisted of.
The childrens play area also was a bit unsafe as it had a sea-saw with a metal post coming out of the bottom of it which could easily have gone into a childs foot if it got caught in the wrong place, none of the swimming pools were fenced off so any child could fall in at any time. The slide was high and slippy there was not soft landing for a chld who could fall. There were a lot of children there when we went as it was half term and I found heart in my throat a few times when I seen these three and four year olds climbing up the steps to the slide.
The room we had was pleasent enough as it was a family room which consisted of two single beds pushed together, a camp bed for my son and a cot which was ok for my youngest. However, the room was not that clean and the bath had undescribable marks in it. There was no fridge in the room ( is standard in 4 star hotels) and I had to request this which they charged me extra for 30 Euros. Also no facilities to heat babys bottle up, not even a kettle. Ok this might seem a little extreme to some people but as a hotel that is catering for families then this might be something that you want to consider, as walking down four flights of stairs at 6.30am and banging on a restaurant door until they let you in is a bit of a nightmare.
The beach isnt a beach either, its stones. Is ok if all you want to do is sunbathe if you get the chance, but is crap for building sandcastles on and playig football as you will spend half your time picking stones out of your shoes.
Apart form all the above the hotel main areas were clean although smelly at times but how this hotel got four stars I have no idea. What I do know is that I and my family and all my friends that I have told since coming back will not be setting foot inside any of these hotels again and especially the Royal Sun. Also please note that the hotel is oposite the railway which has trains going back and forth every half an hour night and day, the hotel is not double glazed.
My advise STAY CLEAR OF THIS HOTEL.

just returned from this hotel and cant disagree more than the last reviewer.the hotel was clean.food was very good, remembering i was in another country, the food was well catered for the english, with a good variety.I could not smell a bad odour either.I personally dont go away to watch tv but that is my opinion, and dont knock anyone who does, but i would imagine you dont get all the english channels over in spain.overall i would return to the royal sun,it is well positioned for all amenities, staff were very nice too.

I visited the Hotel Royal Sun for a week and I can tell you a week was too long! The overall appearence of the hotel was fairly clean except for the foul stench that wafts through the hotel time to time, the rooms are suitable (though not 4* standard) the tv shows nothing but german and spanish programmes except bbc one. I cannot fault the maid service as they clean the room every day, except they always forgot to leave toilet paper! The hotel lifts are a pain as well, better of taking the stairs even though we were on the fourth floor. The main issue when staying all inclusive is the food, it is almost the same every day, after the second day I was already sick of it. And let me tell you on more than one occasion my stomach wasn't the best after eating there.
The hotel is situated beside the beach which is great and i enjoyed the cocktails from the bar. But apart from that there wasn't much else going for it, the hotel entertainment was ok and they do try hard but wasn't really my cup of tea, there were much livelier hotels nearby.
The hotel is fine if you are German, it caters mostly for this nationality, I think the hotel staff were plesantly surprised that we were Irish. Thanks Hotel Royal Sun but I wont be back!!

When I went there, the food was great for around the 1st week of our holiday, the 2nd week wasn't as good I would say, hotel's very clean, but our room was very small compared to what it looks like in the photos. At first we thought all the rooms was the same size as ours, but around 3 days before we left for home, we went to a friend that we'd made on our holiday's apartment, and it was massive compared to ours, so we went to complain, and we changed rooms for only 2 days but better than none I guess. There was two of us in this small room, and two people were living in the larger one so I don't know why we got the smaller one. Our room number at first was 635, if you get that number see if you can change rooms. On the other hand, staff were very helpful and friendly, good entertainment at night, the great thing is that we're right on the beach too. So I would recommend the hotel, just not if you get room 635, it was small enough for one person.

we have just come back from our holiday there, we would recommend the hotel to any of our familly or freinds. The hotel is very clean, the food is very good for both adults
and children, the hotel is right on the beach, with panoramic views from your room. i would recommend that if you want a late check out to book an extra day to make sure as it is a busy hotel. We would recommend this hotel to any age group. The staff are some of the friendliest and helpfull that I have found.

To give this Hotel 2/10 like the previous reveiw is just a joke, the location itself is directly on the beach and is in the quieter end of Malgrat, the food here is excellent something for everyone a choice of at least 1 meat and fish Pots and veg nightly and as much salad as anyone could want with cheese cold meats i.e ham ect as well as local dishes such as paella, Breakfast is a full English and i will admit to the fried eggs abit hard but if you waited for a new batch they were perfect cheese ham croissants all juices tea and coffee. Entertainment wise it could do with an update and the kids mini disco was for about 5 minutes which left them abit deflated. The staff are abit misrable but they work long hours and we found if you smiled and did not treat them like robots they smiled back and were quite friendly the cola was nasty so i bought my own diet coke and just ordered Bacardi ( there local brand) instead, If you want to upgrade your AI card to a gold card this is 12 Euros per ROOM per night and entitled you to branded drinks and early/ late check in/out plus other benefits. All round this hotel is good value for money and being directly on the beach is a bonus we had no problem with drunks or loud kids, There is a free bus service which offer you all the HTOP hotels in the group a visit which gives you the freedom to go to other resorts in the area for the day and still use you AI card which is an added extra. We would gladly return but would hope for better weather as we had 5 days rain out of 7.

We were happy with the location of this hotel being right on the beach. The rooms are basic, although no AC or mini fridge (as the website says). The food was ok, can't really complain as you don't pay much to start with. The main thing with this place is the behaviour of other guests. There is a constant noise from kids till midnight when the parents seem to take over after their night of drinking or others heading back from a night out. There are no rules about being quiet after a certain time so it carries on all night into the morning. We are a young couple (30 years) so don't mind a bit of noise but this place is over the top. You can hear everything from showers to toliets to tv's to late night fights. We woke up each morning tired and were actually looking forward to going home just to get away from it all. I would not recommend this place.

I must say I was a little apprehensive after reading the mixed reviews on this site but we had a really enjoyablle holiday here in early april 2008
The rooms are a little small and the decor and tiles in the bathroom is a little dated but the hotel is spotless the staff are friendly and overall our all inclusive holiday was fantastic value for money.
If your expectation is a marriot or the ritz or el buraj you will be dissapointed, if you are looking for a nice hotel with clean rooms , good food, friendly staff , in a good location, great for kids close to the beach and train station you will not be dissapointed.
I would reccomend this hotel

We have just returned from a holiday booked one week before we went. The Royal Sun Hotel is one of the cleanest I have seen. All the public rooms are spotless. The restaurant is extremely good, clean table cloths laid as soon as one set of diners depart. There was a wide range of food and the salads and range of fresh fruit available was exceptional. Anyone not happy with the temperature of their food could use one of the several microwaves placed in the dining room - not that we had any cause for complaint. The coffee/tea machine in the bar was ideal for getting a cuppa anytime of the day. We found all members of staff very pleasant and our bedroom was cleaned every day and bed linen and towels replaced several times during our stay. If you like the beach you could not have been closer. The railway was quite close but never disturbed us. It is a great way to see other places along the coastline for a very small sum of money. It also enables you to visit Barcelona which is one of the most interesting places you can find and also the reason we chose to stay fairly close by. Although Santa Susanna is a very quiet resort it is ideal for anyone wishing to enjoy strolls along the beach or promenade to the limited number of shops. We visited Malgrat, Calella, Lloret de Mar and Pineda de Mar by train where there are a variety of shops. It is hard to find fault with our holiday - the weather could have been better but the Royal Sun was great. Book with confidence!

Spent a wonderful week in the Royal Sun in Santa Susannah.3 adults 2 children.Admittedly we were very lucky with the weather 3 nice sunny days.
The only problem is with the freaky Brits who refuse to try and "speaky de lingo"so to speak.
Try to to remember we are ambassadors to our country every time we go abroard at least give it a shot......I found this out years ago and in addition to that, you end up getting way better service...result!!!!.
Food;big buffet lots of choice however I would have been bored if we had been there for more than a week.
Drink;cold but served only 2 at a time on production of your all inclusive card(with photo)then again, lets face it, you only have 1 mouth.free tea and coffee really nice cappuccinos. There is a machine outside that sells litre bottles of water for up in the rooms 1euro(you'll need it)
Cleanliness:you could eat your meals on any horizontal surface in this hotel well done to all the staff
Barstaff;Try to talk in spanish and occasionally drop them a tip it works wonders and to be fair they like a laugh!!!
location ; fantastic right on the beach
looky-likeys;the miserable barman looks like Fredo off Godfather 2
Mario the barman looks like Ronaldo the Brazilian footballer
Jesus looks like Jesus
Have a nice holiday
Jem, Kerry ,Alex, Sophie, and Linda.
