Sitting in the Reception waiting to go home after a fab 5 days at The Royal Sun, all the people who posted bad reviews about this place must be off their Trollies.
Treat the Staff with some respect and you get treated the same in return, clean. The Bar Staff were excellent throughout our stay with nothing to much trouble, even making a massive Cocktail for my Wife when they found out it was her Birthday last night.Food was O.K. and plenty of it, something for everyone and a Free Bottle of Wine every night chucked in with your Evening meal if you wanted it. Rooms were spotless and cleaned to perfection everyday. We never been all inclusive before but after only spending 40 quid in nearly a week we will be back here again without a doubt.....Very Soon

Firstly this really isnt a 4 * hotel, we are not fussy at all and stayed in some very basic accomodation, but when you book a hotel which you think is going to be a bit more special thats what you expect as we didnt get a cheap deal for this holiday we paid full price 9 weeks before we went. The hotel itself is very clean, the maids came everyday of our 7 day stay and they were faultless they work very hard and we had clean towels daily and they changed the beds half way through.
As with all the other comments i totally agree about the location, we found it great that you could walk out the back doors and your on the beach which our little 3 year old loved.
HOWEVER....... As for the staff there was only a few that were polite, most of the reception staff were VERY rude and the way one spoke to my partner made him actually say to stop speaking to him the way she was as we were the ones paying their wages.
Straight away when we got there at 11.30 am we was told that we couldnt check in till 12 so we had to put 4 suitcases in the luggage room and sit and wait. Our son of 3 wanted a drink so having no euros on us till we get our money exchanged we asked if we could get a drink for him as we were all inclusive in which we were abruptly told we will get our all inclusive cards when we have checked in and not before. Only to be told 10 minutes later by the same man we could now check in, he then vanishes so we get all 4 cases back out to be told by the man at reception we cant check in till 12! Faulty Towers!
Then when we get our all inclusive cards we had paid for our daughter and her boyfriend who are both 17 full price and was told that they was not allowed to have adult cards and gave them childrens cards and told them they werent to have any alcoholic, we said that we didnt mind them having a few drinks under our supervision as they were on holiday but they wouldnt give in. Even though the club opposite kept asking them to come in and they could buy alcohol from the shop!
The Food was very samey, again we have stayed in far more superior hotels that were 3* than this, everything you didnt eat for breakfast was made into something for lunch and what you didnt eat for lunch, what do you know you had for dinner! One concoction we found rather amusing was fried eggs (Breakfast) tomatoes (breakfast again!) and tuna (lunch) all mixed together and served at dinner..... Yummy! Although we cant moan too much because there was always something to eat but it always smelt like school dinners and the smell would hit you by the time you got to the second floor. Our son didnt enjoy going down there as its very cramped you can fit 4 to 5 round each table and the next table was right on top of you so felt like they were dining with you. The one night my partner tried to some bread rolls out so our son could eat something as he never would downstairs with everyone around him and they went mad and was saying they would get the manager, so we asked to see him and was told he wasnt there so we left a message for him to get back to us but he never did.
The woman in the bar indoors, who looked like skeletor was by far the rudest, we asked for a coffee which is freshly ground behind the bar which we were entitled to on all inclusive but she said to use the machine, which tasted like dishwater. It took several attempts before she eventually made one, it wasnt the fact that she was busy, there was no one else there she just couldnt be bothered and slammed the cups down.
It may seem like we were being petty but we had looked forward to an extra special holiday as it was a special occasion that we had gone for and all we got was a normal bog standard hotel which claimed it was more superior than it was.
Still we made the most of it and had a great time outside the hotel and the rude staff, stick to the bar outside they are more pleasant.
1 final thing is be very careful if you go to barcelona, we were just glad we didnt pay 35 euros each to go to the cathedral, it was under reconstruction and replaced with a cloth hanging over the whole front with a printed picture of the cathedral on it! Still its cheap to go on the train just under 7euros each return dont waste your money on the excursions!
So Overall the location was perfect but wouldnt go back to this hotel as MOST of the staff are rude and arrogant!

Among all the Htop hotels, Royal Sun is most probably one of the best hotels Htop has to offer. The staff that work there whether it be the cleaners, waiters, waitresses, barmen or concierge are of a fervent nature and are exceedingly quick to cater to the needs of the customers - their willingness to help is outstanding!
When we were dropped off 400 yards away from the entrance along with steps and an underpass full of teenagers ready for a night out i grew quite weary of the hotel, however when i arrived in the lobby of Royal Sun the cleanliness and presentation, i admit, did impress me. The rooms were very clean and there was more than enough storage space for personal belongings. Although we didn't get our beach/pool view i still delighted in my room and felt comfortable almost immedietely. The location is celestial, literally step out the back and you're right on the sandy beach of Santa Susanna.
I was immensely pleased with the excursions that conjoined with the hotel facilities, as without them i couldn't have adapted and familiarised to the boundaries of Catalunya as well as not quite knowing what to do. Nightlife in Santa Susanna is almost non-existant. Thus i would recommend clubbing strictly for the busier resort of Lloret De Mar and Barcelona City. The only club that seemed to rake in punters was most probably the Club Qk - just across the road from Royal Sun - however, i would recommend that adults should only party there on a weekend basis as the teens dominate the club during the weekdays.
The food did get tiresome over the week, as it is more or less the same menu. But, the variety is excellent - vegetarian, spanish delicasies, english, salad, pasta, hot pot, fruit, cake deserts. Despite the routinal menu, it did save me and my mum a lot of money eating out, however i would recommend going out to eat some real Spanish food, canapes, tapas, pig foot and snails!!!
OVERALL, i would recommend Htop Royal Sun to anyone looking for a good getaway from busy city life. I will most definately consider going back.

I stayed at Royal Sun for a week with my dad & thoroughly enjoyed my time there. The food was delicious, with a good variety each day. There would always be a fish, meat and vegetarian option along with salads, potatoes, pastas and sweets for dinner. Lunch would be similar. Breakfast would be bacon egg beans etc with cereals, toast, fruit and yoghurt for people who don't wish to indulge on an english breakfast every morning. Fruit juices and tea, coffee, hot chocolate etc was also available. The staff in the resturant would always be friendly and kept it nice and clean.
The room was a little outdated but still clean. The bathroom was cleaned daily along with the towels changed and the beds made etc. The room we stayed in had a lovely view of the sea and the pool (we stayed on the 4th floor) and the lifts were always reliable. There was a satelite TV in the room with soem english channels such as ITV1 and BBC1.
The hotel was situated some metres from the train track but this was never a major issue as if your older you have sense on how to cross it and those with children it is not necessary to go near the train track as there are other ways in which to cross the road. As in many other reviews yes there is a stench of sweage as you walk through the front entrance but it was not a strong stench in my opinion. Drains in Spain often do smell as it's hot there and has little rain, what do you expect!
There is only oen thing at Royal Sun I could complain about and that was the entertainment though we did visit out of season.
The staff at the hotel were all very friendly and I recommend this place. I was very pleased with it and and the end of the week I didn't want to go home!

Hi my friend and I only back from Santan susanna having stayed in the Royal sun hotel. We had orrignally booked in to the planamar but were changed at last minute, this was good news because apparently the planamar is not so nice. Well the hotel its self was very good it was clean staff were lovely and always pleasent and there to help. We were in santa susanna for 5 days as it was just a short break but thank god we were because the town was like a ghost town no shops or bars or anywhere to eat were open and because we were only bed and breakfast we could not find anywhere open to eat it was terrible a nightmare. I think these travel agents who you book with should tell you this before you go. If I had knew this I would not have been near it at this time of year. My sister and I had been here in August and it was great loads of shops and bars and places to eat but stay well away in Feb. It really was awful!!!!

Came back today from our holiday at the Royal Sun. Were originally meant to be staying at the HTop Planamar but we got changed last minute. Apparently this was a good thing as the Royal Sun compared is alot nicer.
Staff were friendly, well most of the time. They didn't see to kindly to me jumping in the pool at 4am and even threatened to call the police!! Well that was my own fault i suppose so haha.
Food was good, but samey. Chips with every meal. Good if you like normal half board type food, but nothing special. I would recommend going down the road one night to a gorgeous Mexican restaurant!
To be honest entertainment wasnt great. The same thing every night pretty much. The atmosphere sort of went down a bit after someone staying at the hotel died whilst dancing. Not the hotels fault at all, just a little distressing to watch.
If you are looking for good nightlife during the Winter season, best off looking elswhere. Most of the bars/clubs are either closed or empty (exceptions on the weekend when all the locals go out and party!)
Recommend barcelona for the day, but would say to take the train as it is more than half as cheap as the bus from the hotel!
Rooms and everything else were exceptionally clean in my honest opinion. The cleaners did a great job!
Would deffinately recommend this for maybe older couples during the winter, alot quieter and the temperatures were still hitting 20 degrees! Suntan :)

On 3rd November, 2008, my wife and I arrived at the Royal Sun Hotel in Santa Susanna. We were taken to the hotel by bus and delivered to the door of the hotel. We booked into the hotel and spent a nice week there. The room was clean and the room was cleaned every day and fresh towels supplied. We found the staff were friendly and helpful and they worked very hard keeping the hotel clean. The meals were good and varied. We enjoyed all our meals. The entertainment was good and we enjoyed it except when the Spanish took over for two nights but it did not put us off. We had some nice walks and we had a day in Barcelona and the Hotel supplied us with a very nice Pic-nik lunch which we enjoyed very much. The local drinks were O.K. but honestly for the price we paid for the holiday it was good value for money. One minus point of the holiday was my wife and I who are well into our seventies on the day of departure were instructed to take our luggage a journey of about 500 metres negotiate a fair amount of steps with the luggage and had to stand on the pavement outside the Alhambro Hotel to wait for the bus to take us to the Airport. This was quite stressful for us at our age but at the end it all added to holiday experiencies.
In my opinion we should have been picked up at the Hotel, and taken to the Airport from there. We enjoyed our holiday but this hotel is only a 3+ star. Not 4 star.

Have just returned from one week all inclusive at this hotel. Got to the hotel on the Friday night and wanted to come home on the Saturday morning. Travelling with my husband, 4 year old son and 9 month baby. My family and I have stayed in many 4* hotels and this was just a joke.
Afeter being dropped off nearly 400 yards away from the hotel(ok isn't much unless you count that we had to carry 3 suitcases a buggy, backpack and two very tried children) arrived at the Royal Sun to be greeted with a foul stench of poo and a flight of steps to climb before we got to the reception. Then we had to carry our bags up to our room in tiny lifts so this was a two journey job for my husband, isnt much but would you not expect a night porter to be on duty, many of the hotels that my family and I have stayed at offer this facility without hesitation and have gone out of their way to accomodate families.
During our weeks stay I encountered rude staff who would not let me heat up my babys milk bottle because they said that the resturant did not open until 8am,like a 9 month old baby is going to wait. When I took my children down for a snack I went to get my eldest a drink and was told that he could not have fruit juice as it was only available during breakfast and that if I wanted a drink I would have to take my children back up to the bar get the drinks and then bring them down to the restuarant as the bar was not open during snack times. I thought this was carzy as food and drink go together. When I approached the manager of the hotel on this subject I was told that they did not have enough staff to have the bar open downstairs during this time (although I noticed that there was 2 members of staff on the bar upstairs would it have taken a brain cell to have one in the bar and one in the resturant as neither were busy)
The food was rubbish to say the least as it consisted of the same thing for the duration of our holiday. None of my family are picky eaters and will eat allmost anything (my husband and I have tried everything from goat to shark, pidgeon, kangaroo) but to be faced with the same food day in day out was not good for a supposed 4 star hotel. Pig seemed to be everything the menu consisted of.
The childrens play area also was a bit unsafe as it had a sea-saw with a metal post coming out of the bottom of it which could easily have gone into a childs foot if it got caught in the wrong place, none of the swimming pools were fenced off so any child could fall in at any time. The slide was high and slippy there was not soft landing for a chld who could fall. There were a lot of children there when we went as it was half term and I found heart in my throat a few times when I seen these three and four year olds climbing up the steps to the slide.
The room we had was pleasent enough as it was a family room which consisted of two single beds pushed together, a camp bed for my son and a cot which was ok for my youngest. However, the room was not that clean and the bath had undescribable marks in it. There was no fridge in the room ( is standard in 4 star hotels) and I had to request this which they charged me extra for 30 Euros. Also no facilities to heat babys bottle up, not even a kettle. Ok this might seem a little extreme to some people but as a hotel that is catering for families then this might be something that you want to consider, as walking down four flights of stairs at 6.30am and banging on a restaurant door until they let you in is a bit of a nightmare.
The beach isnt a beach either, its stones. Is ok if all you want to do is sunbathe if you get the chance, but is crap for building sandcastles on and playig football as you will spend half your time picking stones out of your shoes.
Apart form all the above the hotel main areas were clean although smelly at times but how this hotel got four stars I have no idea. What I do know is that I and my family and all my friends that I have told since coming back will not be setting foot inside any of these hotels again and especially the Royal Sun. Also please note that the hotel is oposite the railway which has trains going back and forth every half an hour night and day, the hotel is not double glazed.
My advise STAY CLEAR OF THIS HOTEL.

The hotel is very clean, great staff at reception, most helpful at all times.
The pools are lovely and you cant beat the location near the beach. The rooms were in need of a little updating, but dont let that put you off, they are as good as any hotel in spain that we have ever stayed at. The food is fine, and you can eat all day if you like.
We went October 2009 and we have booked for september this year, we are a couple in our 40s with 2 teenage girls 16 and 18, they love it. The resort is quieter than most on the costa brava and I would say safer for teenage girls. All I can say is enjoy !!
