This is my second visit to Stanwix Holiday Park and i have to say i am very dissapointed fron this years stay.
Last year we were staying on Criffel Campsite and we could not ask for anything better. This year we stayed on Skiddaw campstie, pitch 118 from the 22nd-29th August 2010. When we had arrived there were a few flies and wasps around the pitch, when putting the tent up we thought they would go. Monday morning i had woken up and the tent was covered in wasps only on ours, speaking to other campers they also mentioned of wasps. I did not mention anything at first as we thought that they would soon go, then it started to get alot worse once the wasps started to come inside the tent, as my daughter was eating her dinner they were getting in her food it was disgusting. My husband started cathcing the wasps which were inside the tent in a bottle. once we complained staff came down to the tent and saw what we had to live with for the past few days, my husband also showed him the bottle of wasps which had been caught from the last 3 days. They said they were going to report it to the manager. Another bad point was that where we were staying there was only one lampost for the whole Skiddaw Campsite, so every night after the entertainment it was dangerous to find our tent as it was pitch black. The noise was nto any better as we was next to a busy main road so all you could hear 24/7 was cars and lorrys.
We got told by the staff that we would be getting a call off the manager Elenor Stalker, who did ring us on Wednesday 1st September, and ONLY offered us £35 off our next holiday to Stanwix, she told us nothing was wrong and nobody complained before. She told us that there must have been something wrong with our tent, but we know that it was nothing to do with our tent. We rejected the £35 as we believed that it was not a fair act.
The facilities E.G. swimming pool, entertainment, shops etc are excellent we could not complain, but for our family the holiday was ruined this year and i would recommend that if you are ever wanting to come visit Stanwix Caravan Park book the Criffel campsite.

The park might be ok if you stay in the static caravans and have kids under 10 years old, but if your camping like we did on skiddaw stay away unless you like chavs shouting at there tribe all day and inconsiderate people from the other country playing music at full volume in the day and being sick in the early hours of the morning. The road was very close to the camping site as well which is busy even at night (tents where very close together).
The toilets/showers was only cleaned once a day so you can imagine the mess the chavs kids left them in when they was unattended. When it was cleaned there was no hot water at all for the showers so we had to use the disabled ones at the indoor swimming pool. There was dog mess on the grass where people didnt pick up at there dogs or they just let there dogs run around the site.
Entertainment was poor unless you was under 10 and i didnt like the way in which the site pushed the kids to the max with photos etc.. to extract as much money as possible from them. There was under-age betting/drinking going on as well and no one seemed to mind. The is nothing for free on the site apart from the swimming pool which isnt really free as you need the pass to get in which you pay for in your booking fee anyway.
After hearing great reviews on the Holiday site really look forwards to going. after 4 days we packed up and left we was so disappointed and will never return to Stanwix Park.

Really Great Accommodation

Stanwix appartments have just been completley refurbished, the bathroom, kitchen etc was great and very clean.
Out door pool wasent open yet as too cold but the indoor pool was lovely not much room for kids who cant swim thought but lovely jacuzzi sauna and steam room make up for that, never mind them for a change.
The upstairs free soft play area was great for rainy days and all even the toilets was very nice.
Entertainment was a bit late with Foxy not coming on till 8.30 but again I think this was because it was out of season.
Small play area and not much room for ball games, but down in Silloth theres a huge park area and wicked little park near the football club.
All in all well recommended. the only negative was the enthusiastic girl on reception insisting on seeing your passes every time you came into the main building, but their only doing their job.
PS price of a pint was £3.50 so we spend a fortune.
Enjoy x

After going to haven parks for so long this was a very welcome change. it was cleaner, friendlier and alot cheaper! Only a few arcade machines so the children wont constantly ask for money. the pool was lovely and the spa pool, well, wow! a must for all of us mums! We took our tent for a week and water is seperate for everyone so no long walks for yourthat! Its right on your own pitch. The entertainemtn was very good, mostly provided by trevor, grahamn and Audrey. Brilliant. drinks were cheap and its so safe too. You need a code for the toilets, laundry room etc so no one who isnt staying can get in. The shower blocks were very clean and even had family bathrooms so you can relax and have a good soak! Def going back very soon. Much better than anywhere else have stayed!

Lovely site-would definetly recommend it.
We stayed in our own tent with excellent clean toilets, showers and campers kitchen. All pitches had electric hook up and water.
Rest of family stayed in a Richmond 2006 caravan which was lovely and clean.
English kids were still at school when we visited so all other visitors were scottish.
The facilities were spotless including cafe, showbar for kids, adult cabaret lounge, swimpool. There is also an outdoor pool, small bowling alley and amusement arcade.
My 4 year old adored Foxy Fox and the childrens entertainment. Older kids aged 11,12,14,16 found there was less for them to do.
This site is in Silloth which is a very quiet place and does not even have a supermarket (so stock up on your groceries before you go as also very few places to eat)
A lovely holiday park with very high standards- much cleaner than the Haven sites and not obsessed with trying to get you to spend your money every minute of the day(like Haven!)

Lovely site, caravan not as clean as...

Lovely site, caravan not as clean as expected but put this down to late season.
Well equipped kitchen. Indoor pool with spa, sauna and steam room excellent, communal changing room but with cubical for privacy including a baby changing cubical. Lovely separate baby pool.
Soft play area upstairs for young children could do with ball pit to give more fun play but my child aged 1 loved it. Children’s club in evening with foxy fox was a bit late (8.45 before foxy appeared) followed by adult entertainment still suitable for children as held in family bar.
Two separate bars upstairs for adults only and an excellent array of amusements for children and adults including a pool table for children as well as adults. Outside playground brilliant but nothing for the really young could do with a baby swing which we did suggest so maybe for next year. Would definitely consider going again but earlier in the year.
Long way to a supermarket, definitely need a car to get around.
