Perfect for a cheap night smack bang in the centre
from Nazboy
This is a nice cheap and cheerful place to retire to if you fancy staying in cardiff for a couple of nights. It is in an excellent location right in the city centre and very close to the train station. The room cost me £40 for the night and it was all very clean with a shower, comfortable bed, kettle, TV etc. I was staying on the top floor facing away from the main street and it was nice and quiet up there. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. I went out for the night to a gig and went clubbing after, coming back at...

Lot Better Than Expected
from ALZI
Stayed here for two nights mainly on account of the location - two minutes walk from Central Railway Station and cost £40 per night for a single en suite room with breakfast. I was allocated a twin room but did not complain - the room was very clean with just one or two signs of wear and tear but nothing the odd lick of paint could not improve. Service was friendly with lot of smiles and thank yous with the local girl in the breakfast room being particularly jolly and pleasant All in all I enjoyed my stay and would not...

Outdated but good location
from sunluvva
I chose this hotel as it was conveniently located near to the Cardiff International Arena so it was indeed a short walk back after seeing a fantastic performance by Will Young. I found the receptionists very friendly and the waiting staff at breakfast in the pleasant dining room were very efficient. The directions given to park in the underground car park were good and it is quite close so it is only a brief stroll away. The room (No.4) was basic and utterly outdated, but the bed was comfortable and as long as you get a good night’s sleep...

Claenliness a lot to be desired
from MAUD
Booked two groundfloor non smoking rooms The carpet was covered in cigarette burns , the skirtng boards were at least an inch thick with dust and even had congealed blood in room 2 Toilet seat was broken and the cistern would not fill Mattress in room 3 the springs were nearly through and therefore had no sleep There were no topsheets on the bed The only positive thing I can say that the staff were friendly and although they had reported the state of the room to the manager there was no action taken On checking out they...

Harsh very Harsh. This room has since been modernised but I can assure guests that this was an unfair and untrue comment.
STREET NOISE
from TRAFFICCOP
Hotel is ideally situated for shopping and all of the City's amenities, however the big disappointment was the amount of noise filtering through our bedroom window on the first floor, from St Mary St. outside, mainly due to the revellers and police sirens ! I have stayed in hotels located alongside Heathrow Airport's runway and had a better night's sleep! Double or triple glazing, instead of the secondary double glazing would go a long way to remedy this. Rooms were tidy and breakfast adequate, service from all staff was good.
Don't believe all the bad stuff

We have just returned from a 2 night stay at the Sandringham and we had a great time. Ok, so it is not a modern hotel but it doesn't advertise it's self to be and it is a 2*. The staff in the resturant and reception are polite and bend over backwards to be helpful to you. The rooms that we stayed in were clean and quiet, which was amazing considering the location and the fact that there was a rugby match on. The central location means that you are right near great shops and resturants. Also, it is a few minutes walk from...

And all that Jazz
from Bedwas
Good value, Friendly service, clean and excellent central location. Perhaps not the hotel for a romantic weekend away, but good choice for anyone wanting to stay in the heart of the city (perhaps to catch a concert or Rugby/Football match at the Millenium Stadium). Can be noisy because of its close proximity to St Marys street bars/clubs. Nearest NPC Car Parking is in Westgate Street (£12.50 per day), whilst Cardiff Central is less than a 5 minute walk away. The Jazz Cafe has live music most weekends and Howells department store...

Dreadful hotel!
from WakeTraveller
What can I say I've seen far better rooms in a youth hostel. The disco goes on until 1am and the rooms are directly above. When we complained about the noise we were told 'didn't you know about the music?'. Yes of course I bloody did I really enjoy listening to Delilah in the middle of the night after a five hour drive to Cardiff. Please DO NOT BOOK THIS HOTEL! Save your money for somewhere worthy of it.

The guest was informed of a function disco that went on below his room until 1am before the reservation was made and then we confirmed it with him on arrival. Obviously he forgot this by the time he wrote the review.
\Ishock horror I've returned to the 70s
from kazaDevon
What a dreadful entrance it was enough to make you turn and run some would say "very retro" except for the dingyness of it all, I walked with dread to my room, it was better than expected although when lying in the bath the underside of the washbain left a lot to be desired and as for the underside of the toilet?? old cracked lino tiles did little to help nor the slap a coat of paint on the electric heater trick!! looking on the brighter side we had clean crisp bed linen and breakfast in the Grovener Suite (hardly) was good
What a pit!

You could not get me to stay there again! We paid little and we got little - mold on the ceiling of the bathroom, unclean toilet, dirty bedroom....

Guest clearly not happy and has decided to make up a great story. We are a 2 star hotel and graded as such. No more to be said.

This is by far the worst hotel I have ever stayed in. Rooms didn't appear to have been decorated since 1970. There was secondary double glazing and the net curtains between the outer window and the galzing were not just grey, they were black. The bathroom was a good size... more
