The hotel we booked for our trip to Riga was the Reval Latvia. It is a four star hotel and relatively cheap when compared with Europe. I think in any major cosmopolitan city in Europe it would only get a 3 star rating. The rooms are ok and secure. The beds comfortable.



Its main attraction is the skybar on the 26th floor. But we found while the view was stunning it had the worst service and hospitality this side of camp x-ray.



You can get a simple local style meal for about 4L. But the city has changed from earlier reviews and now its prices are easily that of London in some of its restaurants and bars. If you can find a quieter place drinks are about 1L a pint. With some clubs trying to charge 5L for a warm bottle of beer so be wary.



The locals are generally rude if they think you are foreign, even if you use some basic Latvian to say hello, goodbye, and thank you. English is widely spoken. I think this just might be the most unfriendly place I have ever been to. I don't think I’ll be returning ever again.
