Avitar Hotel

the hotel was not situated within walking distance of the old town as was stated when we booked,the trolley bus stops outside so not a major problem.upon our arrival the recepionist was not very friendly,even less so when we asked why the fridge was not switched on,where is the kettle,cups,spoon etc.we were then told that all hotels,rooms in latvia now have a no smoking policy which is great unless youve asked for a smoking room!! the breakfast was fine as was the bar in the evenings it was quiet due to the fact the hotel is miles from the centre.the rooms were clean as was the rest of the hotel.the hotel manager was very helpfull after i had my purse stolen in the town(BEWARE)the police dont speak any english and i dont speak russian or latvian!!
as for the city of riga all i can say is i was glad to get home,make the most of the cheap transport(ITS THE ONLY CHEAP THING THERE)to get out of the city and visit the surrounding areas.public toilets are something to be avoided at all costs
