Basico Hotel

Overall a beautiful hotel. So damn cool and the service was very good, but this is noth the place to stay if you are looking for a little r'n'r. The bar on the rooftop plays until 12 or 1, sometimes later; and although they did give us one pair of earplugs the music still came through. Don't get me wrong I loved this hotel in every other way, just know what you are getting into. If you're looking to party this is the place!!!

We stayed for 2 out of 4 nights in Playa del Carmen at Basico (it was booked full the other two) in early April, 2007. This hotel is truly one of a kind--just check out the website and you'll see what I mean. Overall, a great experience--hospitality is the one thing that sticks out (in addition to the hotel design, of course..) For being located right on aveinda 5, our room (Claudia) was remakably quiet, but it was located on the interior of the structure. We stayed at Basico for four nights in early March, and we loved it! The whole design of the hotel is so cool - the rooms, the entrance, the elevator, the restaurant, the rooftop bar - everything was perfect! We were really amazed when we walked into the hotel the first day, because it just looks so good! It's all very industrial and unique looking, but it's done very well. I recently held my destination wedding in Playa Del Carmen & the only reason I did was because I found this gorgeous gem halfway between LA & NY.....Hotel Basico. I absolutely LOVE this hotel. Design = perfection from the lobby to the rooms Staff = lovely warm & helpful Food = delicious Espresso Bar = such a great surprise to find! Music = relaxing....inspiring.... we had so much fun there, really nice and the bed is perfect: we slept like babies. Very big bed and confortable. but bring your ears plugs. we stay there for one week and they were no party at all. they keep the music open until 2 or 3 am but, i don't know why, the bar and the restaurant was always empty, very empty each night. maybe it's already out! take the room Lucia, it's the best room. and if you have problem with anything, or if you need something else, they are very nice and they will take care of it. montréal, québec

Can't believe that there is such a cool and individual hotel on that coast. We so loved our stay and felt that we were part of the family. Nothing was too much trouble for our hosts and would stay there again. How about that bar??Think the margaritas on the rocks were the best I have ever had so of course like a little pig I had lots!! This was our second time staying at Hotel Basico and we were greeted as old friends. The staff's attention to detail and the impeccable standards of the hotel make this a destination we plan on returning to again and again. I can't say enough about this hotel, its location and amenities. It is the best home away from home in Playa, and we have stayed at nearly a dozen other hotels in the area. My husband and I booked a trip to Playa for our first wedding anniversary and I'm so glad we stayed at Basico. The hotel staff was so friendly and attentive. Someone was constantly cleaning the hotel. Everything always looked nice. We were a little worried about the noise having read other reviews before we went down. We stayed in Gabriella and only had trouble with the noise our first night. We loved our room and felt like we had a lot of privacy. Lets start with the good stuff. Nice staff, excellent design, nice room, nice bar, excellent location, great comfortable bed and good around the clock DJs. Bad Stuff: Methane gases from the sewer were overpowering in our room. Since the 12 foot window in my room was broken and would not open, my room smelled liked [----]:) If the can get adequate venting or p-traps i would stay here again. If not, their sister hotel Deseo looked very nice.

First, I need to thank all of the other reviewers. Your tips and observations really helped to help us get an understanding of this hotel and other things about Playa. Our cabbie from the airport did not know where the hotel was. As he dropped us off at 5th and 10th, he told us to wander down 5th (the wrong direction) and maybe we would find it.
