Goan Heritage Hotel

I was at Hotel Goan Heritage for 3 days in September during a 3 week long trip though India. This was probably the most charming hotel we stayed at. We were there while the hotel was under construction, and in the low season, so we were practically the only people here. The room was nice enough, and the balconies had a view of the ocean. We booked a hotel in South Goa but realized there was nothing to do there, so called a few hotels in the North. This place was recommended by our book (Footprint Guide, highly recommend it). They were kind enough to give us the standard rate (vs New Year 2x rate) for all 3 days even though the first day was still in the expensive date range. Where do I begin. We decided to book early 2007, the hotel looked good based on their website, however when we got there. the rooms were small, the staff are not so help full. What I found was that they think you are not going to pay and do a runner. I say this as we used to order food and drinks by the pool, and later go to our rooms, a waiter would run after you to sign for the bill, even though they know we are staying at the hotel. Having arrived at the Goan Heritage Hotel after the 9 hour flight we were dissapointed to find our room not yet ready and had to wait 2 hours before we could get in, unpack and shower. The staff were very apologetic but could offer no reasonable explanation. We simply loved our stay at Goan Heritage. We got a first floor room with pool view and also a distant view of the sea. The resort has a very nice swimming pool with a bar at its corner. There is also a children's playground, gym, games room (Table tennis, carrom) and Spa within the resort. It also has a good restaurant. It is absolutely on the beach and you simply have to walk out of the back gate of the resort and you will find yourself on the beach. I had been planning to visit Goa with my wife and 2 year old daughter. After having to cancel a booking at another 5 star resort in Goa due to date problems, we found a recommendation for the Goan Heritage Hotel in a Goa travel guide book. This is a cheap and very cheerful hotel in Calangute. After digging deep at a 5 star in Goa last year we were on the look out for something better value this year, and at one quarter of five star prices we found the Goan Heritage Hotel. Yes the rooms are a little like those at a past its best B&B seaside resorts, but if you get a room, as we did, overlooking the ocean and the beautiful Goan bush, this hotel is far better, and certainly better value than a clinical five star without a doubt. The Goan Heritage - well located on Holiday Street, Calangute (North Goa) right by the sea could have been so much better. Its a very basic hotel, filled by cheaper charters, from Germany UK and Russia; so if you want a truly resort / getaway dont bother with this one as not much on offer. Pool is small and not very nice, breakfast is horrendous, rooms are old; but the price and location are good.... so basically, you get what you pay for!

When i first arrived at this hotel i was really disappointed. The reception staff were rude and unhelpful. The room was depressing and not what i would expect for India for that price. We moved to this hotel as it looked better than the one we arrived at but when we settled in it was a nightmare. The rooms felt like army barracks & was dark a dreary. The pool wasnt cleaned out properly & people were getting sick from swimming in it. The food was absolutley terrible so we all ate porridge for 2 weeks as we was VERY sick.
