I have taken European skiing holidays every year for the last thirty six years! I can safely say the Hotel Kertess ranks with the best in its class. This is due to the following:-
a) Friendliness and helpfulness of the staff. Edith was a gem!
b) Quality and quantity of the breakfast and evening meal.
c) The pleasant but small bar area.
d) The cleanliness and general tidiness of the hotel in general and the room cleaning service.
e) The efficient taxi service down to the ski storage depot in the resort centre and back in the evening.
f) Last but not least, the zero single room supplement with 'Thomson Ski'!
I have no hesitation in recommending the Kertess.

I almost panicked when I saw the first two reviews on the site, I'd already made my booking for 6 people. However, having now been, I was glad because I didn't recognise the hotel in the review when I got there and so I decided I would write in and counter the earlier reviews, although I see I've been beaten to it by a February skier.
I found the rooms clean and spacious, the staff helpful and friendly with excellent English, and the food was far too good. A five course meal with a choice of main course and an excellent salad buffet every night (and I'm not a lettuce person). Fortunately there was a lot of snow and the challenging skiing kept the weight gain away.
One party member, a less keen skier spent most afternoons in the hotels pool and thoroughly recommends it. The free minibus service is essential if keeping skis and boots at the hotel (it has boot warmers!) and drops you at the bottom of the hill convenient for lifts on both side of the valley, a bus station and the taxi rank.
Unusually for a hotel they even provide an après-ski snack, my only grumble, that it’s savoury, hot dog; burger or soup, when I prefer cakes and jam.

Or group of 17 have just returned from our first holiday in Austria. It was fantastic. Hotel Facilities, staff, food and cleanliness were faultless. hotel bus every 15 mins until 11am and returning between 3-5pm is a must if you don't leave your skis and boots in a locker in town.
It’s a 5 min walk downhill (minimum) and 10 min uphill if not carrying anything. the hotel provides free vouchers for ski/boot storage under the jennewein ski shop next door to cafe sailer. Leave your gear here even if you rent it from the Schneider store because its more convenient for the slopes- less carrying. If you're interested in nightlife/apres ski, the mooserwirt on the slope is a must.
The cafe sailer is very enjoyable after your boots are off but the bars in town don't liven up until 10pm.

We travellled by Shearings coach, staying overnight in Reims outbound and St Quentin inbound.
Hotel Kertess is on a hill to the west of the town. The hill is steep but has numerous places to rest for those not as fit as they used to be. However, the Shearings driver usually arranged to be at the foot of the hill at a given time.
Breakfasts were good wtith the usual selection of meats and cheeses favoured around these parts, or cereals for those who wished. You could help yourself to as much or little as desired. Evening meal was a good 3 course, starting with soup, continuing through an adequate though not plentiful main, to a sweet course. Proportions were adequate for most, but some -like me - would have liked just a little more. Meals were included in the tour price, so I am not sure what the prices and quality were like for 'paying' guests.
Decor was pleasant and generally clean, though the door jambs and main door to our room looked in need of a new coat of varnish. The shower had no curtain or provision for one, so the floor got wet.
Swimming pool. A little chill to start with, but OK once in (as always). The tide mark around the edge left you wondering how clean the water really was.
Bar was pleasant and the bar man a bit of a character. Prices typical hotel prices, but not unreasonable.
Would I go there again. Yes.

We travelled by coach from our UK destination, staying overnight in Reims, in a comfortable two star hotel, with an excellent evening meal on the return journey. The journey by Shearings was fine, except that there was only one driver/courier (who was very good) which must be a risk.
Our brochured hotel was supposed to be a 4 star, but it never lived up to that, as either the operator or hotel were trying to cut costs. The room was always clean, but the decor and furniture were totally uncoordinated as though the owner had been to a jumble sale. One window was broken and could not be opened. The bed cover was ripped and there were no markings at all on the TV control. Our room appeared to be showing evidence of being worn out, but it had plenty of potential to be improved.
Breakfast was OK, if you liked muesli, yoghurts and seeds, which I do. However, the choice of bread and meats was poor for a 4 star hotel.
Food was very basic, unimaginative and in small portions. However, it was always edible.
There was half to three quarters of a bowl of soup every night for a starter, without the luxury (remember, the 4 star rating) of even a piece of bread.
There were two choices for main course, which was a meat dish or pasta. Vegetables were a rarity and salad was nowhere to be seen. Vegetarians stay clear. For the first two nights, we got McDonalds type chips and wondered if the Chef was on holiday. One night we got frozen fish and chips (not even peas), and it appeared someone was not able to use a microwave, as one person had frozen fish.
Sweets were totally unimaginative with fairly plain ice cream or something out of a packet. One day we had semolina, with plum sauce which surprisingly enough was the best sweet.
The dining room itself was crammed and the seating was poor.
The hotel was also up a steep hill, good for burning off the calories, but if you were not very mobile you were trapped.
The excursions provided were generally to nearby places.
The hotel provided no entertainment.
St Anton itself is a beautiful place, and there is plenty of free entertainment provided through the local tourist office.
I have stayed in 4 star hotels in Austria before (travelling with Leger), and they were top quality.
I would recommend lovely St Anton but stay somewhere else, if you wish to avoid being served school dinner type meals every night. Everybody on the trip was disappointed by the food.

Kertess was very clean and comfortable. Staff very obliging snd helpful. Breakfast and dinner were excellent and plentiful - the salad buffet made the evening meal. Bar area had a lovely view and was nice and relaxing. We hardly used the courtesy bus as the walk up the hill was good for stretching the legs after being clamped in ski boots all day. Bonus was being able to leave ski gear in free storage near the lifts. Would thoroughly rcommend this hotel and would definitely go back.
