The room itself was very clean, spacious and had plenty of storage space. The maid cleaned the room almost every day and left us a bottle of water for our mini-fridge. The room had air-conditioning which we found to be a 'God send.'
The staff at this hotel were among the best we have ever come across, very helpful and although we didn't have children ourselves were very child friendly. The entertainment staff were very enthusiastic providing lots of activities for young and old alike both during the day and in the evening although we never attended any of their evening entertainment shows.
The food was always of a very good standard and there was plenty of choice. Both of us are very fussy eaters and we were never disappointed with the quality and quantity of food on offer. However, being there for 2 weeks we did find it at times a little repetitive and would suggest going into Playa Blanca village once or twice and eating out. There is an Irish bar opposite the church in Playa Blanca called 'Paddy Macs' which does great food - their Sunday roast being a speciality for anyone needing a little home comfort. Paddy Macs also offer entertainment 7 nights a week with the Elvis show on a Wednesday night being paticularly good for a laugh and sing-along. The taxi ride to Playa Blanca takes only 4 or 5mins and costs only €3.50 (day) to €4.50 (night). The resort itself is a very safe place and we never witnessed or heard of any crime/lager louts as experienced in other islands/resorts.
We went to the beaches at Papagayo a number of days and although very nice and refreshing may be unsuitable for SOME older people or those who cannot walk far/are unsteady on their feet.
We also went on a Thomas Cook organised excursion to Timanfaya National Park. The park and landscape were an amazing spectacle, however the price (as usual) was extortionate.
We found the rep in our hotel (Penny) to be very helpful and friendly although we heard others complain about her not being there at some advertised times because she had been called away to the airport etc. (you can't please all the people all the time).
All in, this was the best holiday we have had for a long time and found it good value for money. We would have no hesitation in recommending the Iberostar Papagayo and Playa Blanca to anyone requiring a relaxing break in the sun.
