Yellowtop Country Park was everything we wanted and more for our 1st wedding anniversary. The spacious, very well decorated lodges are just 15 minutes from York McArthur Glen Park and Ride, which runs buses every 10 minutes into the city for just £2 all day.
The lodge we stayed in was stunning. A large open plan living area with dining table, kitchen and living room all in one, but not cramped at all, it was a great size, and the kitchen had all you need for a weekend or a week even!
The bedroom again was excellently decorated with a lovely 4 poster frame bed and sofa in there, so again plenty of room.
There are about 20 lodges on the lake but they are not crammed in really. You have your own space and everyone has a view of the lake too.
The lake offers course fishing for any who wish to spend their time doing that, we didn’t so I can’t really comment. The ducks though were very friendly, or at least they knew when it was breakfast time.
The icing on the perfect cake was the hot tub in the area off the bedroom at the back. It was a large 5/6 person hot tube, very clean and well maintained (they come once a day to put in the chemicals). We spent a good couple of hours in there each night, even when it was raining with champagne. It was truly a magnificent experience!
Yellowtop is close to a couple of pubs and little off-licences as well as a pretty good Chinese.
what more can I say except book it! It’s perfect for a quiet, romantic get away!
Only thing was, which was probably our fault, was remember to take towels or I think you can book them on when you book, but we forgot.
Yellowtop is a 4 star self catering lodge with excellent owners, who show you around but then just leave you to get on with relaxing. In my opinion it should be 5 stars!
We stayed in Wild Oats 2 Lodge. One of about 8 with hot tubs.
