Party Night
from boblisa123
Would just like share with others and recommend the party night my boyfriend and I attended at the Cliff head Hotel. It was fun with a capital F. The staff , the atmosphere, and the food were all fantastic we had such a fun evening, nothing was to much trouble. We had not been there before, but we will be going again. Congratulations and thank you Cliff Head Hotel.
Excellent weekend thank you all

'A great time was had by all' We had our Christmas party here and decided to make a weekend of it. Food and service was excellent. We found all the staff to be very friendly and helpfull and nothing was too much trouble for anyone. We have booked our party here again next year and we're looking forward to it already.
Don't Go!

We attended a Christmas party and it was the worst night out we have had. The food was cold and tasteless and the service was very poor. There was obviously not enough staff for the number of diners and the restaurant manager didn't seem to know what he was doing. He was rude to customers when they complained and was also rude to his staff. We complained to the manager who looked at us like a rabbit in headlights! My recommendation would be not to go there until it changes management and ownership.
we always object to complaints

Wonderful weekend for my husband's birthday
from SnowdropDevon
I booked this hotel for my husband's ninetieth birthday dinner for twelve of us altogether staying in the hotel. The hotel was far, far above expectations and we all had a a wonderful time. The food was to die for even though they had a wedding on in their function room and the waiter who was dedicated to our dinner party could not have done anything more for us.We were given a lovely room with a four poster bed as were some other of our guests. Even those without were up to a very high standard and better than expected for a three star hotel. All the staff from the reception to the chambermaids were very friendly and efficient. We loved our stay so much we have booked for Christmas.
Loved it!

This hotel was so delightful. I cannot fault it at all, the location was wonderful, the staff were so pleasant and helpful especially the front reception lady. The room and bathroom were very big. Breakfast was lovely and plenty to choose from. We would definately stay there again.
Good Value

This is a good location for visiting The Eden Project, Heligan Gardens and Charles town. Transport is essential. The hotel was clean and breakfast good. Staff were helpful and efficient. Our short stay was definitely good value for money. We enjoyed the company of pensioners on a coach trip and this was certainly a good venue for them. The beach though close appears to be inaccessible at present due to construction work and I would have been disappointed if the beach had been a priority in my choice of location. I would advise checking this with the hotel in the summer.
Worse than Fawlty Towers
from anniemack
My husband booked a 3 day stay here and a trip to The Eden Project as a birthday surprise for me. A surprise, it certainly was. We arrived at 6pm after a difficult 11hour journey by train to find the room they gave us was as it was when the previous guests had walked out. Bed unmade, loo paper on the bathroom floor..... We were told that there were no other rooms available and after 40mins, being kept waiting in the very shabby lounge, our room was still not ready. There were notices pinned around the building apologising for any inconvenience during the refurbishments, but these notices looked so old and dog-eared I suspect their "refurbishments" have been going on for a very long time. Despite advertising a pool it is also being refurbished and unavailable. The whole place has a down at heel appearance, with dispirited-looking staff trying to cope with guests' complaints. Don't even think about staying there! We didn't. We walked out and across the road to the much better Carlyon Bay Hotel.
Basil is alive and well

This is in a handy location for a weekend visit to Eden Project and Heligan Gardens. BUT. Check when you are enquiring that there are no coach parties or wedding receptions booked. If there are, then forget any semblance of service in the restaurant or bar unless you particularly want to spend more than three hours over an evening meal. Ditto breakfast, service is still hit and miss, more the latter than the former. For information from a previous review (that reads suspiciously like a self-written commendation), dinner is now £25, doesn’t include coffee, and promises a lot more than it delivers. Also check the room facilities, as two of the rooms have a bath but no shower over it and they know about them. They have shower caps, shower gel and a hairdryer but no means of washing your hair unless you can bend over the sink, fold past the glass shelf and under either a hot or cold tap. Admire above the bath taps the holes where a shower has been but is no more and the nut screwed down over where a hose once was. Just for good measure, the bedspread in our room was decidedly grubby and the decoration well past its best viewed by date. The wardrobe door had also been taking lessons from Arkright’s cash till and prone to snatching shut with a loud bang. Be also wary of a management that condones the absolute full booking of all the double rooms, including the 2 that have no shower facility, so you can’t ask for a move. To solve this predicament the same management initially blame you because a shower was not specified the time of booking and apparently nobody has complained before (try to think then of ANY hotel room that has a bath but no shower over it). If pushed, they then say that there is a shower near the swimming pool and if really pushed, offer the facilities of a room on another floor (single, so no good for a swap from a double room). For good measure the swimming pool is out of action. Don’t expect to be offered any kind of recompense for the lack of room or communal facilities, they are more than happy to take your money and booking with no hope of providing what you have paid for. The tourist certificates with all their stars and praises are, bar one, long out of date. Access to the beach is a short (steep) walk and includes a long flight of steps. It is very disappointing. There is a large development in progress and what was once a beautiful curved bay is covered in temporary huts, half demolished buildings and part-completed rusting retaining walls.
Excellent hotel

Just returned from a 3 night stay on a BB basis at this hotel. My mother and father in law and myself were attending a family wedding and the reception was held at the Cliff Head so we decided to make it easier on ourselves and stay at this hotel throughout our short stay in Cornwall. I'm so glad we did. The hotel is immaculate, has fantastic food (plentiful) and great staff. We agreed that we would definitely go back there again. Although on a BB basis we did have the Table'd'hote menu on the first night which was great value at £19.95 for 3 courses and coffee. The food was to die for - really excellent -as was the service. We weren't disappointed the next day (wedding day). I was sure that the quality and service would drop when faced with serving 100 guests but I couldn't be more wrong - again excellent. One very small grip - the single bed I had was way too soft for me and if/when I return I would definately book a double room for single use and pay the difference. £45 pppn including breakfast - fantastic!!!!

The service was good and the hotel facilities were also very good. The hotel has a lovely sauna and an indoor swimming pool. However the golf course was quite a walk. The Cocktail Bar and lounge in the hotel was a nice start to the evening and the nightlife in the area was... more
