Relatives recommended us to visit this part of Scotland and we are very glad that we did.
We stayed in a comfortable and clean two bed roomed caravan on a self catering basis. The Glentrool Holiday Park although small in size toward other local Holiday Parks had what we wanted and was convenient for our visits to the Galloway Forest Park.
There is a public house just 300 yards down the road that serves good food and drink also Newton Stewart (about 8 miles) has fine eateries.
Facilities on the Holiday Park were basic with a small shop, washing and drying area, Toilet and shower block, Telephone kiosk and small kiddies play area.
The site is split between a static caravan area and a Touring caravan/ Motor home area with a camping area around the lovely wildlife pool. It was not the stunning scenery or the location that made it for us (but that also has to be seen believe me), it was the small things like a book lending service in the reception area, full waste recycling system and information available on all local attractions and places of interest.
To come across such a jewel of a place is very rare nowadays and when you have warm and welcoming owners you just have to say Thanks.

We've just stayed at the Glentrool Holiday Park for the weekend taking our small tent. The area allocated for the tents is in a idyllic setting with the large wildlife pond a lovely feature to view. There are several areas partially hidden behind vegetation offering privacy for those who want it. The exclusion of cars in the tent area allows the ground to be even and not rutted at all. (Although a mallet would be handy for the tent pegs as it's stony underneath the thin layer of turf - as usual in the mountains).
The facilities on site were very clean and the free hot showers very welcome. In the laundry and dish washing area the owners had thoughtfully provided washing up liquid, dishcloth and even pegs to hang clothes on the lines in the large enclosed drying area. The reception and shop were very welcoming and provided basic needs.
In conclusion, we found the Glentrool Holiday Park owners very friendly, helpful and informative, the facilities clean and well managed and the camping area ideal for small hike tents.
