Superb hotel.
from twentytwo
Just returned from a fantastic holiday at the Antonella Hotel, booked with Newmarket. The hotel was spotless, the staff friendly and the food excellent. Would definitely recommend it. There's a five minute walk into Malcesine so it is also ideally situated for boat trips etc.

The Fabulous Lake Garda
from marglan
Just returned from a really pleasant week at Lake Garda courtesy of Newmarket Holidays. Hotel Antonella very good: comfortable room, friendly, helpful family. Italian food (choice) more than satisfactory. Malcesine in late October getting cool, especially in the mornings being on the eastern side and in the shade of the hills, but by midmorning, warming up as the sun rises higher to create a lovely afternoon and early evening. Malcesine is possibly the town with the most history and I would thoroughly recommend the visit. Ferry service available to Limone across the lake and other destinations closeby. The funicular from Malcesine up Monte Baldo is well worth the trip. The views are magnificent. Temp drops around 9C so a warmish autumn coat is a good idea and swimming in the outside non-heated pool of the Hotel Antonella not a good idea! Rather cold. The lake is cold too and probably somewhat dangerous, it being a lake. Lake tour recommended and the Danish Anna, our multilingual guide (excellent English), provided a tour full of information. All in all a wonderful week.
Fantastic - Already planning to return to this hotel
from Claire-Highlands
My family and I have just returned from Lake Garda and were very fortunate to stay in the Hotel Antenella. We found the family who ran the hotel, very friendly and helpful and all in all, excellent hosts. The hotel itself is lovely and set in beautiful surroundings. The roof terrace, pool and seating areas are superb and offered super views. We had a room overlooking the lake, from which the view was breathtaking. As another reviewer noted, the family's friendliness seemed to rub off on the guests because we all got on really well and even made some firm friends during our stay. The only small gripe is the lack of air conditioning and the setting beside an extremely busy road made it quite noisy at times but a lot of the hotels are situated beside the road and from speaking to other travellers, discovered that there were various other hotels which did not have air conditioning either. For me though, these are two small points that are easily overlooked compared to the wonderful hospitality we received during our stay. Malcesine itself is beautiful. The hotel is only about 10 minutes walk from the main shopping area and harbour from which you can go onto the many boats to visit the other surrounding resorts. There is a beautiful lakeside walk you can take to get there. My family and I are already planning to return to Lake Garda and we will most definately be booking our stay in the Hotel Antenella.
Excellent week

Despite some adverse reviews we had seen on this hotel, we had an excellent time, here. The family who operated the hotel were very helpful and friendly; as far as their limited English allowed. The food was a good standard, as was the choice of meals. The pool was excellent and kept at a comfortable temperature. Bar prices were comparable with any other bar in the resort. As we were aware, traffic noise can be a problem which was only alleviated by closure of the window. This made the bedroom very warm, as the weather was terrific. I think this problem could be overcome by the installation of a ceiling fan in each bedroom. With the staff being friendly, this tended to rub off on the guests and everyone got on wery well with everyone else. A good foundation for a good holiday. We would certainly go there again. A good hotel in a lovely resort.
Fabulous Fortnight in Malcesine
from Wol1s
We were happy with the facilities and comfort of the Hotel Antonella for the price we paid. It is true however, that the hotel rooms become hot and the lack of air-conditioning, or even a fan, can make it hard to sleep at night until you acclimatise. Traffic noise is ever-present but rarely intrusive and easily ignored. Paying extra for a lakeside view also means that you overlook the road so, if traffic noise really does bother you, opt for one of the rear-facing rooms. Shame not to enjoy the view across the lake to the mountains on the Western shore though! The pool was popular but never over-subscribed. It is only open from 10am until 6pm and is partially-shaded until mid morning. Lakeside bathing is highly recommended and it is just a 5 minute walk to the lake; 10 or 15 minutes to the town or to a really attractive beach. The hotel was clean and decorated to a good standard but some items - blown bulbs, loose toilet lid - were not repaired while we were there. There was also very little information provided about the hotel and the facilities in our room. Slightly worrying was the lack of any instructions about what to do in case of fire; although the fact that extinguishers and hoses were in evidence gave some reassurance. A safe is available in each room for €5 per week: as the cleaners tended to leave the balcony door open each morning to air the room, we felt the safe to be a wise investment. The meals were usually tasty and filling but a little repetitive: veal in various guises was offered as a main course several times a week. The choice of main meal was limited to two different dishes each day but there was more variety in the starters and desserts. Drinks with the meal were charged at prices similiar to those found in town. In common with many hotels in the area, dinner was served at 7-7.30pm only: if you knew you were going to be coming back too late for dinner, the hotel would make a 'packet lunch' on request. Wednesday night saw a special meal with an apperitif and live music. Lunchtime food can be bought from the pizzeria 'da Gigi' downstairs, in town, or along the lake front. Other reviewers have suggested the hotel staff are unfriendly to Brits: this wasn't our experience, however the welcome wasn't effusive -- despite being a family-run hotel, it is run as a business with us merely as as guests. The proprietors seem more comfortable conversing in Italian or German than in English and I am sure that we would have got to know them better had we been more proficient in either of those languages. Unfortunately the young man who is often the first point of contact for guests can be rather taciturn and is often occupied watching sport on TV: this can seem unfriendly but we never felt it was intentional. In summary: we had a fabulous two weeks in Malcesine; the Hotel Antonella suited our needs and provided a comfortable base from which to explore the lake. We were happy to stay at a private hotel run by a family, rather than at an anonymous chain hotel. The hotel has excellent views over the lake and a pleasant, relaxing atmosphere. There was nothing outstanding about the hotel but nothing terrible either. We throughly enjoyed our time there and felt it represented good value for money.
It was OK

We have just come back from the Antonella, ( 17th July 05) as like the other reveive we didnt know anything about the hotel as Newmarket Travel changed the accomodation afew days before we were due to go on hoilday. I think its just a basic family run hotel its friendly the food is ok the hotel is clean but it should be more a 1 or 2 star. All most all the hotels are on a very, very busy road its so noisy 24/7. To be used to the traffic noise you would have to live on a main road your self at home then it wouldnt bother you. The weather is hot but in the hotel its even hotter as there is no air conditionig or fans that you can hire and makes it very uncomfortable to sleep at night. Compaired to other 3 star hotels, the Anotella needs updating
Agreeable Antonnella in Marvellous Malcesine!
from gemmie
My son and I have just returned from a week in the Hotel Antonella which was arranged with Newmarket Holidays. I was a little concerned as my choice of hotel was changed at the last minute and I could find very little information about the hotel. However my fears were unfounded as the Hotel was very clean, cosy, the family freindly and welcoming and the meals tasty. Our room was comfortable with a lovely lake view. Both myself and my teenage son enjoyed the pool and sitting on the small terrace in the evening with a glass of wine or beer was extremely relaxing! A ten minute stroll to the delightful town of Malcesine was enjoyed on many an occasion where we were able to take a ferry to other equally pretty towns or just meander around the cobbled streets and winding lanes. Although there was a problem with traffic noise being so close to the road, great for my son who sat on our balcony spotting Harley Davison cruisers, I would still recommend this Hotel for its cleanliness, comfort, welcoming atmosphere and close proximity to the town. Thank you to the family of Hotel Antonella and Newmarket Holidays!
Brilliant Hotel and Holiday

I stayed at the Antonella in June 2005 with Newmarket Air Holidays. I found the hotel to be in an excellent location, very close to Malcesine. The hotel is quite small and friendly, with a nice swimming pool. All in all Lake Garda is a beautiful part of Italy, and my holiday was a great success. Thanks Newmarket and the Hotel Antonella.
very poor hospitality

quite a nice hotel ,family run but ,oh boy, what a miserable family .if you want somewhere friendly to stay dont go to this hotel. If you are british they dont appear to want you there. Malcesine is a wonderful location for a nice peaceful vacation and the people in the town are great. if you dont want problems with your vacation dont use holiday firm Newmarket Air travel or this hotel.

Very nice hotel a short walk to the lake and the town of Malcesine. Staff were very friendly and pleasant, food was excellent, there was a choice of meals each night, which were all delicious and catered for all tastes. Make an effort with your Italian and the staff... more
