Splendid Palace Hotel

My husband and I spent one week in the Hotel Splendid Palace in Limone for the first week of our honeymoon. The hotel was fantastic in every sense of the word and exceeded all expectations. Our hotel room was very private and had a wonderful view of the lake from our balcony. Our room was comfortable and we were greeted by a bottle of bubbly and a fruit basket due to the fact we were honeymooners. The hotel is in an enviable position and commands fabulous views of the lake and beyond. Beautiful Limone with its quaint harbour, shops and cafes is a few minutes stroll away down a cobbled footpath as is the ferry stop where you can regularly catch a ferry to transport you to other destinations on the lake. The food was much better than I anticipated for a buffet style restaurant and the food on the menu was fresh and varied to suit all tastes. The service by staff was second to none-all were very friendly and polite. We went on to stay in a 5* hotel in Austria for the second week of our honeymoon although my husband and I agreed that we enjoyed our stay in the 4* Splendid Palace more. I doubt that there is a better hotel to be found in the resort-cannot be faulted. I would definitely return to this hotel!!!!!!

the hotel Splendid Palace in Limone is a very special hotel. The view is stunning from the balcony in the rooms or even from the bar/restaurant. The food is excellent and is authentically Italian and wins awards every year and we stay there every summer. In response to the previous reviewer who complained about the 'cheap' rooms being pool view as opposed to lake view, it does say clearly in all the brochures of the tour operators and on the hotels own website that a lake view is available at a small supplement, which is only £ 3.00per person per night, so you cant blame the hotel if a non lake view room was booked, it really is the customers responsibilty to ensure that they get the right facilities and when you book last minute always check all the details

We booked this holiday as a late deal with Crystal. Watch out if you do this . What they wont tell you is that theymay automatically sign you up for the 'cheap rooms' ie Pool View (PV in the very small print in the brochure). The Pool View should be renamed 'In the Pool'. The pool was no more than one metre from our balcony. After one hour we realised that there would be no privacy, considerable noise from kids playing happily and no chance of sleeping with the window open. Apart from this our neighbours from Germany were firmly planted on their lounges from 7am outside the room. I complained and was met by a not too friendly receptionist who insisted that Id booked the room.It took 15 minutes to expIain Id booked late, spent £1,000 on 2 rooms for 4 nights and that the agent had never mentioned PV or LV ( Lake View) when booking. Eventually we moved to a room mid pool which was only marginally better. Most staff were very friendly, the hotel was very clean and tidy, not much to do for teenagers but wonderful views.

We have recently returned from a 2 week stay at The Splendid Palace which was our second trip there. I would highly recommend this hotel. The food is excellent and varied. The free beer and wine with the evening meal is a great bonus too. Our room had a small balcony and lovely views across the lake. The hotel is extremely clean and the staff are very helpful - although removing a bat from our room may have been something they hadn't tackled before! There are 2 outdoor pools and a beautiful new indoor pool which was always very quiet. The only negative points ,in my opinion, are the steep hill up to the hotel which may not be suitable for some people and the location of Limone near the top of the lake which increases transfer times from the airport and for any sightseeing trips to Milan, Verona etc.

We have stayed at the Hotel Splendid Palace four times, and everything about the hotel is perfection - location, service, cleanliness, and the food. The views of Limone, Lake Garda and Monty Baldo are breathetaking. We look forward to returning in a couple of years time.

We have just returned from a week at this hotel and would like to confirm that all the positive comments made last year by other guests still apply. Our room had a stunning view over the lake; the food was amazing; you are able to eat outside on the balcony with lake view if you want. The hotel is set behind a lemon grove with beautiful old pillars, looking rather like a Greek temple, so is very quiet, as it is not on a road. The hotel pool is large enough to have a proper swim and was never crowded during our stay. Limone is a perfect resort; you can wander through olive groves. I recommend Osteria del'Olio for lunch under the olive trees and vines, a pleasant mile's stroll from the hotel, walking through Limone or along the lake. We shall definitely be returning to Hotel Splendid.

We have just returned from a wonderful week (18th to 25th August) at the Splendid Palace and will almost certainly return. Even though we had read the reviews the hotel still lived up to it's expectations, and Limone even more so (even if the short climb up to the hotel from the village was hard for me - a middle-aged, arthritic, asthmatic!). The view from our room was out of this world - lake, mountains and blue sky - what more can someone ask for when lying in bed? Those who complain about the food clearly can't like Italian - every night there were at least 2 different pasta dishes (which changed each night so over the 7 days we were there the same dish didn't occur twice), as well as a main course and, being buffet service, you could have as many helpings of whatever you fancied as you like! The drinks were on a "help yourself" basis too - it wasn't top quality wine but it was quite acceptable (and there was a choice of red, rose or white as well as beer, still or sparkling water and fizzy drinks) and all free! I also liked the fact that chips only appeared once during the whole week (unlike most of the hotels abroad we've been to). We'd go back tomorrow if someone would pay for us!! Pat and Ian Brown

we have just returned from the hotel spendid - had 2 weks there form aug 18th - it is a very nice hotel with lovelly views. the food is excellent....with visitors from different countries i.e germany etc. the hotel is on a hill and will make it difficult with people who are infirm or unable to climb short steep hills. this is our first visit to lake garda and we will not be returning...dont get me wrong it is a very pretty place.....but the lake is deep and dark and not pretty blue like the med.........this is what i missed...but this is my opinion ....if u like beach holidays then be prepared for something different. do go up the cable car.....do go to the dolomites and do go to verona !!!!! fantastic places....and if u want beach ......dont go at all......lake garda is very nice- but i have seen better places. maybe i shall go further south to get a true taste of italy.

We have been dare in beginning of june. Nice weather. Good Hotel - a lot of pleasure. Garda is beautiful. We are comming again

Just returned from a holiday at the Hotel Splendid Palace. The hotel was chosen mainly because of the reviews on this site. I agree fully with the opinions of the other reviewers. The hotel is modern, comfortable, friendly. The staff is 1st class, as is the food and rooms. I have no criticism and I will be returning to this hotel.
