My husband and I travelled to Turkey for a much needed holiday, we decided on an all inclusive at the Kharma Hotel (I use this term loosely), on reaching the hotel it was obvious from the outside of the hotel that the standard of this place was very poor, when we were shown our room it made the outside of the hotel look fabulous, rooms filthy, curtains hanging off of the rails, electrical sockets hanging loose, air con not working, no spirits in the bar, food sparse IF ANY, we moved out of this hellhole within 24hours of arriving.
BE WARNED DO NOT GO THERE

Please don't go! It is basic to say the least, the room was never cleaned, we had the same towels all week and the staff helped themselves to drinks and shampoo which was left out. The pool is not on site and it is unsafe for children, it was dirty with broken wooden sunbeds. The food was very unsafe!!!!! The same food was put out day after day (glad we were B&B). The manager was sort of alright but he did blame me when he forgot to organise a day trip we had paid for. Other staff couldn't speak much English, they were rude and some liked to touch female customers which was really creepy! The English people we stayed with in the hotel made our holiday because we all had a laugh together (if we didn't we would have cried) A big thanks to them! Altinkum the resort is nice and theres lots to see it is just a shame the Kharma lets Turkey down.

WARNING! Hotel Kharma. We have just returned from Altinkum on 29/08/08. We arrived at Hotel Kharma to be completely shocked at the state of this hotel. This is not a hotel but more like a hostel, infact a hostel has more amenities and is cleaner. We were supposed to be All Inclusive, but when you arrive you are told to go across to the garden in the hotel across the road. There is no bufet or restaurant and we were held a piece of paper with our room number on it, 20 mins later 2 staff came from the road with 2 plates of food for us. We have been to Altinkum many times before and this is the first time we felt we could not stay in the hotel not even the first night. We didn't even unpack our suitcases as we found another hotel within a couple of hours which we moved to at our own expense. The hotel is not situated in Dolphin Square as advertised and is actually 5 streets away up dark roads. The room had no toilet paper and when we asked the guy at the reception he looked a bit flustered about trying to get us some. The bedside cabinet was falling to pieces, the TV was nowhere to be seen, the curtain didn't fit the window, air con didn't work, bathroom was disgusting and the sun had been shining in the room all day which wasn't good when you can't close the curtain and there is no balcony. When the recptionist held us the room key he said " I seriously advise you to take a safety deposit box" ( this doesn't put a lot of faith in the hotel or staff). We did have a great time in Altinkum but it would have been a very different story if we didn't move. Altinkum is a lovely place as long as you avoid this hotel.

there is nothing "Kharma" about this place it is the worlds worst supposedly a three star Itr definately not, all inclusive, Definately not. Filthy dirty rooms and bathrooms no hot water for the 2 weeks had to shower 19month old son in freezing cold water every day, food uneatable wth no choice, alchol was never available, the allowance was 2 bottles of cheap vodka a day a bottle of rakki, apparently gin and brandy which we never saw, the local beer was skol though that was danish but nevermind, and this was served in plastic dirty tumbers which were rinsed under a cold tap at a filthy dirty sink. never used pool not safe dining area was dirty, the only thing that gives this hell hole a point is the friendliness of the staff on bar and reception who took all the flack and it wasnt there fault on one occassion there was no milk for breakfast and the boys put there tips together and bought it themselves this i saw with my own eyes couldnt believe it. for your own sakes stay away fom the place, should be condemned.

This hotel should be shut down - it is disgusting! We booked a last minute deal with Hays and were assured we would be in a minimum 3 star all inclusive hotel. We arrived at The Kharma Hotel and it is not worthy of any stars! Goldtrail the company who we were booked through insisted it was a three sun hotel and not stars but honestly it is a disgrace to the company and how they have they can send anyone there is beyond belief. Goldtrail seem to be running some sort of scam in Turkey as I spoke to a few peeople who had booked named accomodation only to be dumped in this low rate place.
We complained to our rep- in fact the whole hotel did but they refused to move us - most of us moved ourselves and therefore had to pay out for food, new accomodation etc not a nice experience at all.
The hotel is filthy the all inclusive deal isn't anywhere near what I have previously experienced as all inclusive. There aren't snacks during the day and the main meal is a buffet style selection of rice and salad served outside on a dirty table.
The pool is filthy- one girl had numerus ear infections and a lady had a rash all over her body after going in the pool. When one customer complained about the bar closing early they were hit! Not a nice hotel at all.
I would strongly recommend that you do not go here or book through Goldtrail as they are the most unhelpful and unprofessional company I have ever holidayed with. There is a big group of us currently trying to claim money back- I think it will probably go to court. If you'd like to be part of our group- drop me an email on jodlong@yahoo.com

I am writing this review as a genuine warning to ALL holiday makers: DO NOT GO TO THE KHARMA HOTEL UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES (especially not all inclusive), IT WILL NOT BE LONG BEFORE SOMEBODY ACQUIRES A FATAL INFECTION FROM THIS PLACE! IT SHOULD NOT BE OPEN TO THE GENERAL PUBLIC!!!
On arrival, the first thing that somebody said to us was "welcome to the hotel of hell"......
Rooms: Extremely basic, dirty, mould on ceilings, drains full of other peoples hair and furniture broken.
Balconies: Contantly wet from the air conditioning units dripping onto them and covered in bird excrement.
Pool: Over a dirty, dusty road. Pool looked mirky, couldn't see to bottom of it. People were getting ear and urine infections from swimming in it.
Pool bar: Had very little choice: skol beer, red wine or raki. Although we were all inclusive, ALL guests are charged for their drinks after 10pm. Drinks were served in dirty plastic cups and were washed in a filthy, mould infested sink throughout the holiday. The bar was constantly covered in ants.
Eating area: Was outdoor, next to pool toilets and showers. We were often visited by stray cats and dogs whilst eating (not to mention all the ants, flies and wasps).
The Food: Was minimal, we NEVER had a choice and had to eat rice EVERYDAY with some oily, fatty casserole (not what you fancy in 39 degree heat!!!) It was worse for the families in the hotel because as you can imagine, the food was not catered for childrens' tastes at all.
IF YOU GO ALL INCLUSIVE, YOU WILL USE ALL OF YOUR SPENDING MONEY ON EATING ELSEWHERE, SO TAKE NOTE!
I am not the kind of person who writes on these websites and don't really like to complain, however, I feel that after a week of hell, diarrhoea and hunger, I have to warn people about this place.
I am currently in the process of complaining to hays travel and goldtrail. If I get no response, I will go to ABTA and the press as I feel this hotel poses a serious risk to peoples health. If anybody has been to this hotel and would like to join me in bringing the kharma hotel to the publics attention, please email me on chantelle.hammill@unn.ac.uk.

Holiday endurance test from hell
Arrival - 3 members of staff watched us struggle with our bags up 3 floors with cigarettes hanging out of their mouths.
First room - 2 single beds and a bedside table, air con remote controlled for the floor spat water out at us. Sheets were dirty and blood stained. Toilet didn’t flush. Curtain resembled a thin tea towel that didn’t cover the window - no privacy.
Second room - double bed this time we had a balcony that was occupied by nesting pigeons, as the air con spat out its dirty water this was now contaminated by bird faeces that covered our health hazard balcony. Advised by other guests to purchase a lock for suitcase, however money, cigarettes, toiletries and clothing still went missing from our room on a daily basis.
Food - this was delivered in an open top jeep and left in the sun before collected. It was carried through the yard by staff once again with cigarettes hanging out of their mouths, whilst dodging the cleaners sweeping sewage water and on one occasion we observed the cleaner vomiting whilst cleaning. The ‘restaurant area was in the yard covered by a half constructed broken shelter. Stray cats and dogs begged for food as you ate, not a problem after the second day as unable to eat due to stomach cramps and diarrhoea. The local pharmacy was VERY busy this week with most guests visiting them.
Drinks - warm local larger served in plastic beakers, vodka and one other local spirit available until it ran out every evening and staff unwilling to purchase more. Soft drinks were also warm and limited.
Coffee and tea tasted the same, as came from same rusty urn, and never hot. The sink to clean the cups was covered in mould and the filthy sponge also used to clean bar, tables and any other surface.
Pool - water pump not working and staff swept the stagnant water back into the pool with same mop that cleaned the toilets and showers. plastic sun beds were split and broken, many guests falling through them. Unable to use cushions provided as local stray cats slept on the during night and stank of urine.
Rep - gave out routine complaint forms but unless you were able to pay no move was available.
Other - towards the end of our endurance test a fellow guest was assaulted by staff and needed hospital treatment - he was only voicing his concerns and once the police had left it increased our anxiety of the staff and made us very vulnerable. Like most guests we were too ill to leave the hotel, and the staff laughed at our distress. When asking for toilet paper, it was like asking for gold and we were made to wait - not ideal when suffering from stomach cramps!!
Departure - no transfer coach arrived to collect us, instead a couple turned up in a small car and spoke no English. I had an anxiety attack at this point if gold trail has informed us this was our transfer it would have alleviated my fears.
Gold trail must stop using this hotel, mine and my partners safety was compromised throughout the week, and although returning ill I have never been so grateful to be home.
Please do not go to this hotel at any cost!!

Please dont be fooled by our rating of 3. This is simply because we made the most of a bad situation and had a good time. The actual hotel is dreadful as the comments below suggest. Very basic room, dirty, TV out of order, curtains thin/non-existent, no phone or room service etc, shower and toilet shabby and in disrepair, constant lack of toilet paper (manager reluctant to give it up!). All in all not by any stretch of the immagination a 1*, let alone a 3.
However, the hotel was close to the beach which does mean you don't have to spend too much time at the hotel during the day.
The resort itself and the beach was nice, sunny weather, and we enjoyed a fun boat trip.
Food was nice (although not for kids), but many of the guests including ourselves, suffered from upset stomachs towards the end of the week.
The hotel experience was topped off by an ASSAULT ON A FELLOW GUEST BY A MEMBER OF STAFF of the hotel. This was extremely shocking to us as well as the victim obviously. This put people on edge at the end of our holiday and made the hotel even more uncomfortable.
Altinkum is quite nice but DON'T STAY AT HOTEL KHARMA!!! you will regret it.

I booked an all inclusive holiday to this hotel in August 2007 for my 16 year old son & I. It was 3 years ago so I will try and recall the nightmare. We arrived in the early hours of the morning to be greeted by a 13/14 year old boy in the dark reception area who could not speak English. Its was very hot and there was not even a teaspoon of water to drink. We were placed on the top floor with not lift to carry our luggage up 3 'long' flights of stairs. Woke in the morning to the reality that we were in some sort of 'shelter' for the homeless! Went to breakfast, there was very few tables and all were filthy and there was no food, tea, coffee etc left so I had to walk in a strange area to find breakfast for my son & I. I had booked for 2 weeks, the look on my sons face I knew we could not endure this for that long. I called my tour operator several times leaving messages etc(I'm still waiting for a response 3 years later!) My son & I checked out the same day into a local Bed & Breakfast (the same hotel I had bought breakfast from the owner was so helpful he came back in his own car an hour later and picked my son and I up). He only had a vacancy for a few days and went out of his way to find us somewhere to stay. We ended up spending the rest of our holiday in the Garden of Sun Hotel, yes I had to pay extra, we were unable to go on any trips etc but made the most of our time at a fantastic hotel which my son enjoyed. The tour opearator are no longer in business and all I can say is good riddance to bad rubbish! I tiresomely fought my case when I returned with pictures of the Kharma Hotel and a detailed report of unreturned calls etc, but noone was interested. I have to admit that I did book this holiday in a rush because I was due to go to Jamaica and because of the hurricane it was cancelled at the last minute and my suitcase was packed......There were no pictures on the net of this hotel and a few negative reviews. I learnt my lesson as this was the 1st time I had taken a risk as such. Do your research when travelling, some hotels do get bad reviews unnecessarily as we all have our preferences and expectations out of a holiday. Word of warning again to not put yourself or your family through the hell of going to the Kharma Hotel!
