We stayed in a caravan at Carmarthen Bay two weeks ago. I was shocked (almost literally) to realise, while having a shower, that the light in the bathroom had no cover with all electrics exposed. Needless to say we complained. Nothing was done, despite the potentially... more

I visited Carmarthen Bay for sentimental reasons in 2008 when I saw the offer in the Sun for short breaks. (I had been in a chalet there in the 70's) I found the site to be clean and the basic caravan I stayed in was clean and very modern. I had to write this review as so... more

Fab week with plenty for the kids
Had never been to a Park Resort before so was a little hesitant in going, but for the price (under £300 for the Sat-Sat of half term) thought we'd give it a go. The worst that could happen was that we'd pack up and come home. When we got there we were a little disappointed with the size of the caravan, especially the lounge area, but it only lasted about 5 minutes and then we got over it! This was a Silver grade, but the 2 bedroomed one so I guess they will be smaller than the 3 bedroomed anyway. We unpacked and then went to explore. Over the week the kids never said those words - 'I'M BORED'! CARAVAN Apart from the initial disappointment of the size we can't really complain. It was cold, but it was the end of October so we didn't expect anything less. We took a portable heater that my partner used in his old caravan and that was more than sufficient on the night time. Fire in living room warmed the caravan up quite quickly, shower was lovely and warm (just a shame the room was cold when you got out of it!) and plenty of storage space. Bedrooms were a bit small, but as we only slept in there it wasn't a problem. POOL The kids spent most mornings in the indoor pool (never saw an outdoor one), which was a little cold at first but you soon became accustomed to it. They were sometimes a bit slow in opening up and people were queing but never too bad PLAY AREA The soft play area was starting to look like it could do with an overhaul, but I think this was due to it being the end of season and the number of older kids playing in there - the maximum age was 8, and their enthusiasm! My one moan would be that this area wasn't supervised and the older kids got boisterous which sometimes put the younger ones off going in. Several times myself and my partner had to warn a few to behave, but on the whole it wasn't too bad. FOOD & SITE SHOP Not the best, but normal pub grub - can't really complain at £25 for 2 adults, 2 kids and drinks. The site shop was bare due to it being the last week of the season, but we popped out to the Co-op and the Spar, both a 5 minute drive away. ENTERTAINMENT Youngest two loved Sparky and his crew, and can't wait to go back to see them next year. The other entertainment we didn't normally stop for because of the youngest being tired but the one night we did, we couldn't complain at all. Our oldest was a little disappointed that the mix club wasn't on, and I didn't see anywhere in the brochure that it wasn't on at that time of year, so a downside but nothing drastic. Spent a couple of days out of the park - went to Kidwelly Castle - only 5mins away, and the National Showcaves at Brecon Beacon. Both nice days out. Would definitely go back - only went onto beach one day, but entrance was right on the park so very accessible.
