We travelled to Riga with Ryanair from Prestwick; the flight lasted about 2 hours 40 mins.
We were collected at the airport by a man, who turned out to be the hotel director, and it cost us 10 lats (£10 approx), a taxi on our return only cost 7 lats! We booked the Augustine hotel after online recommendations.
The hotel itself is located about 20 mins walk from the old town and main tourist area. The rooms were a reasonable size and very clean. Each room had their own shower room and toilet and also had a TV and hairdryer. Breakfast consisted of muesli, local bread, cheese, cold meats and yogurts as well as tea/coffee and fresh juices.
All in all we could not find fault with the hotel.
We chose to go to Riga Monday to Wednesday as we heard that it gets quite rowdy at the weekends due to stag parties. The city was beautiful with lots of sunshine while we walked round the city and its parks; in fact the only time it rained was when we were on the tour bus!
Riga is extremely cheap as are all the museums etc - we would highly recommend visiting the occupation museum which is free unless you take one of the recorded handsets (£1 with a £10 refundable deposit) it is a deceiving size on the outside but you can easily spend 2 hours inside and is a real eye opener.
A quick note regarding eating at night time, we left our hotel at 9pm to get something to eat and found that most places were closed, so we ended up in TGI Fridays!
