Along with several other couples, we booked a last minute 4 day break to Garda in mid July'06.We don't often get the chance of short breaks to this area from Glasgow so were really looking forward to it. Now, absolutely no complaints about the region, which is beautiful. And the flights etc, also fine.
However, our gripe is with the hotel. A family run place with Mama firmly in place all day in the lobby. She speaks no English & neither it appears do any other staff. This makes for awkward moments when trying to get your point across.
The entrance & dining room are typically Italian looking with plenty of artwork on the walls. But go up to the bedrooms & it is a different story. Not a single picture anywhere. In fact, the rooms & walls were so bare & lacking in colour it was stunning in contrast. As for our room, no air con or fan to relieve the heat. No TV, radio, hairdryer either. Also, poor thin towels & bedding. Although there were plenty of rooms away from the noisy front, our party were all given front rooms. And as for breakfast, don't bother getting up for it, pathetic!
A roof garden was advertised. Well, what a laugh that was! A place full of old tatty tables & chairs which had been there for yonks and no shading at all. Better to have shut it off till it has been upgraded. (if ever).
There are 3 stars proudly on show outside but really 2 is being generous! The hotel has to move with the times & give visitors what most require these days. The only disappointing part of our break - the Hotel Miravalli! Advice - go elsewhere!

Hotel was tidy, ensuite room with basic facilities and friendly staff, a little Italian helps.
Garda is the best place to stay on the lake. It is very clean, usually has a slight breeze off the lake keeping it slightly cooler than some of the other towns and is easy to take day trips from.
If you want to lounge around in the sun eating ice cream you can but Crystal Holidays have day trips to Venice, the Dolomites (well worth going), Milan, the Swiss Alps to name a few. They also do Verona but the local bus is easy and cheaper if you don’t need air conditioning.
The are several Theme parks nearby to keep kids of all ages amused and a regular ferry service runs on the lake, the differences in the various towns is quit marked.
Too many good places to eat to mention any in particular, stay on a Bed and Breakfast basis so you can sample the many local restaurants.
There is a market which travels round the lake, one day in each town, it is largest when it is in Garda and sells clothes, toys, food, china, gifts etc.

Overall Garda is the perfect place to stay, plenty of restaurants, bars and gift shops and a good base for exploring other areas.
It is a busy little place but not noisy (unless your hotel is by a main road, which the Miravalli is).
Crystal offered trips to Venice and Verona, which were good value for money, the reps were very helpful and easy to contact.
As for the Hotel Miravalli, it was clean and had a convenient location.
Breakfasts consisted of cereal, normally accompanied by warm milk (on one occasion sour milk) some bread and a plate stacked high with boiled eggs (although no egg cups? Perhaps an Italian tradition I'm not aware of).
However, if your hotel room is at the front of the hotel be prepared for noise from mopeds all through the night and the bar across the road until about 2am.
We had booked a double room but were given a twin room which was a bit cramped and had no air conditioning.
Although fridges and fans can be hired from reception - if you can actually get the lady at reception to understand you and vice versa.
However, Garda itself is lovely and I wouldn't hesitate in recommending it as there are plenty of opportunities for sightseeing, if you're happy to spend an hour or two travelling, with the added bonus of coming back to a nice little town at the end of the day.
