Sotavento Hotel

My husband and I stayed at this hotel for 4 nights. The hotel room was the worst I have seen. Bathroom: Stained and shredded curtains. - Holes in the wash cloths and towels. The room had a bug problem that was not addressed after reporting it to the front desk. Each day we found sawdust from the bugs/termites in the wooden closet on our clothing. this place was perfectly fine. The reviews are a little all over the place, so we were nervous. but I was pleasantly surprised. in high season it was 28 dollars a night, including breakfast (cereal, coffee, and toast/muffins/baked goods) the front desk people were nice and tried really hard, the room was clean (string smell of cleaning products) we had two big comfortable beds and even cable TV. very close to a bus stop, 6 pesos to get to the beaches, the buses come every 2 seconds. and close to downtown Cancun if you want to get out of the... more

This was my worst hotel experience ever. I don't even know where to begin. First of all, the hotel didn't have our reservation from Hotwire and it took about 20 minutes of trying to talk to the hotel staff with broken english to explain to them that we booked a room. I was a little frightened by the uneven reviews of this hotel and the rock-bottom price for our 5-night stay in Cancun, but was pleasantly surprised by the Hotel Sotavento (and Yacht Club). We had three rooms between six of us, and each of them was totally fine. Me and my Girlfriend (Both 28), stayed at this hotel for one night only. The room was clean, but smelled really bad and the aircon was too noisy. Breakfast buffet was disgusting and not worth trying.

I stayed there with my boyfriend. The room was big and clean, with a television. The food was good. It's really a nice and quiet place. I liked it there. In fact the hotel is a good half hour walk from the center of zona hotelera. So you should catch a cab perhaps. There is a lot goin' on in the evenings...

Just returned from a four night stay. The hotel is clean and well kept, It is not a hilton, but at $50us for two people and two beds, including breakfast buffet, it's a bargain. our room overlooked the pool and courtyard area. It had pleasant views and was very quiet. There were no additional charges added at checkout , as many of us have encountered over the years. This was my third stay over 15 years and i have always been pleased. It is not on the beach, but instead on the lagoon with yachts anchored by it. I stay here as it's a nice walk... more

Nice location and Hotel looks "ok"... But wait until you see your room and the food...! The beds are the most uncomfortable we've ever slept on, as hard as rock... There is no fridge, no mini bar, no hair dryer, no iron, simply no facilities in the room... Also there is a small cage that you are suppose to use as a wardrobe...inside you will find a safe without lock, and to get a lock you must give a 100 US Dollars deposit! Last year my husband and I went to Puerta Vallarta and did the all inclusive thing which was great but decided to try a small hotel where we would have to go out to eat for our meals. I found the Sotavento through Hostel world as I had a good hostel experience in Ireland. This was a step up from regular hostels as we had a private room with TV and AC. I stayed in the Sotavento from March 3rd to March 11th 2007. I'm a study abroad student from Ireland, and me and some friends needed somewhere cheap to stay over spring break. We found Sotavento, and after some searching we found it used to be Aquasol, which had had really bad reviews. But the pictures looked nice so we changed it. We were so nervous because it was cheap, $16 a nite, and old reviews had been so bad. But when we got there we were delighted.
