Bird Rock Beach Hotel

After much investigation, booked a week at Bird Rock Beach. After arriving and carrying our heavy bags up and down stairs to our very hot room (the ac was not on) we were shocked! The only good thing I can say is the view was great. No guests any where in sight (arrival at 3:30 pm). The pool water was cloudy and swim up bar was not open. We arrived at the Bird Rock Beach Hotel at 8:00 p.m., exhausted from a long day of travel. Within 5 minutes of checking in the electricity went out. Although this was not the fault of the Bird Rock due to rolling blackouts across St. Kitts, for two women traveling alone, this was an experience to say the least. We initially were placed in rooms in the 700's, which if you plan to stay at the Bird Rock make sure to request another area of the hotel. We picked to stay at Bird Rock because the Apple Vacations website said it was ideal for honeymooners and that it had 3 bars, one of them a swim-up. We spent our honeymoon during the week between Christmas and New Years (03-04) there and it sucked! The swim up bar was ALWAYS closed, the bar on their tiny beach was ALWAYS closed, the staff was rude and unhelpful, and we hardly saw any other guests the entire stay. Spent 5 days at Bird Rock in Feb, 2004, and thought it was a lovely place. Very clean, peaceful, wonderful, helpful and friendly staff, beautiful pool, quiet beach, and gorgeous setting. The hotel itself is nice. Rooms are clean and very comfortable, but not ultra-luxurious, all have a spectacular view of the Carribean and the cruise ships coming into and going out of Bassetere. We spent the first and last night of our vacation at St. Kitts and stayed at Bird Rock (nothing great about that hotel). We came in at about 10 p.m. and the hotel was ghost town. The room had a good view but was not in great shape (especially the bathroom). The front desk was helpful but the restaurant staff and grounds staff were not. We spent our Silver Wedding at Bird Rock in 1977 and it was really special. We went back 4 years later expecting everything to have changed. There had been building on St Kitts but the local people hadn't changed.Following the hurricane the year after our visit some of Bird Rock had had to be rebuilt but the people working there and the atmousphere was just as we remembered it. Our aim is to visit again in the spring next year and keep visiting as long as we can make the flight from England.
