My partner and I booked a snowboard week at Mayerhofen and stayed at the Neuhaus. We took our 14 month old little girl and she was booked into the Creche. Unfortunately 4 days into our holiday she developed chicken pox after seeing the doctor he said she would be able to... more

We chose this Hotel for its selection of rooms, and good reviews for food and service. I can't complain about the food or the service. Both were fantastic!! Our waiter was wonderful and so attentive, but not too much! He remembered that I liked tea in the morning, and... more

This is a big hotel with lots of facilities which justifies its 3/4 star rating. The staff were excellent and the food was good. The location is perfect for getting around Mayrhofen and the adjacent ski areas. It's a 10 min walk to the 'centre' of town (and the main... more

A fantastic hotel set in brilliant scenery. The staff are all extremely friendly, helpful and polite. The selection of food is great and to relax in the huge garden by the pool with the mountains in front of me is just amazing. The Neuhaus also provides Christine, a... more

Very well maintained
We stayed at this hotel in March 2007 and really loved it albeit our room, which was gorgeous, was in the main hotel whereas some other reviews refer to the annex. With regards to the annex, we only saw this from the outside so cannot comment. The food was also really lovely and despite arriving around 10 p.m on the first night, the kitchen stayed open and the choice was very good. The hotel has a couple of restaurants and we were in the smaller of the two. It was quite smart, traditionally decorated and the service was excellent. We would love to return to the Neuhaus although Mayrhofen for ski-ing is great if you are intermediate or advanced but if you need tuition, the lifts to get onto the mountain where the ski schools are horrendously busy... 15 min walk / 5 min bus ride to them and then an average of an hours wait to get onto the cable cars. However the hotel was so lovely and the staff so professional that we probably will return but only when there is no need for ski school.
Beware of Hotel Neuhaus
Myself and a group of 5 other friends booked the 4star Neuhaus Hotel and on our arrival we were dismayed to see that we were taken back out of the hotel and to an annex some 75meters down the road and told that was our accomodation. This annex or the Landhaus as its called is a disgrace and being kind could only be described at best as a 2 star hotel. We immediately threw down our suitcases and marched back to the reception were we told the receptionist under no circumstances were we staying in this dive. (We used slightly stronger language than that)(I must stress at this point that we had been aware of an Annex before we booked the hol but I asked the travel agent that we were definately 100% staying in the 4 star part of the hotel and she said yes. Also from all Thomson / Crystal documentation I have it says under accomodation 4stars). We did everything possible including getting the holiday rep, his boss and so on but they said there was nothing we cud do as we had not paid some extra supplement to stay in the 4 star part and the hotel was full. (When originally booking I had simply asked for a total price for 6 people staying in 4 star accomodation Hotel Neuhaus and a supplement was never mentioned). So please please please to avoid a huge disapointment if staying in the Neuhaus check this out. One other thing I would say about the hotel even tho we staying in the annex we had our food in the Neuhaus which was simply fantastic and the staff our great. In future i would never book a holiday with Thomson / Crystal again. Chris Hatton Northern Ireland
Almost excellent, but spoilt by smokers.
5 of us - all non-smokers - had a wonderful week skiing, and we really liked the hotel. Food was excellent, staff friendly yet efficient and helpful, rooms were immaculate and comfortable. BUT - the smoke in the bar was dreadful. There was not one corner where non-smokers could relax, have a drink, chat, listen to the live music, without being smoked over. and some of the cigarettes smelt extremely strong! There were lots of little children there too - had I been a parent with little ones, I would have not wished to spend anytime at all in the public areas. There is a huge area with plenty of space for allocating a non-smoking area - and plenty of non-smokers to use it. An extractor fan over the smoking area would make life comfortable and the bar would see more customers remaining to spend their Euros! What a shame to have such a nice place spoilt by such thoughtlessness on the part of the hotel management. Reminder - this is not just a whim - this is a health issue.
Terrible! Christmas vacation ruined.
This is a copy of my angry letter to the owner: I am writing to you after just returning from a Christmas vacation at your hotel. I am extremely disappointed and angry after my experience. It was my first trip to Mayerhofen and I have decided to stay at the Neuhouse hotel based on its reputation. When I arrived I was given a room with one bed. I asked the front desk for a room with two separate beds, since I booked a double room, and my friend was arriving a few days after. The staff at the front desk referred me to Frau Elizabeth, who in her turn promised me to look into finding an appropriate room. Two days later I was informed by Frau Elizabeth that not only the room with two separate beds was not available, but also that such a thing as a hotel room with two separate beds doesn’t exist in Austria. I never heard about such an Austrian tradition, so I went to all of the neighboring hotels and they indeed had rooms with two beds. I paid for a four star hotel and was expecting comfortable vacation. Not only I was not given an appropriate room, I was also lectured in a very condescending and rude way and given every possible ridiculous excuse why I can not have a room that I paid for. Thanks to Frau Elizabeth and her “revolutionary” concept of customer service, my Christmas vacation was ruined. Both I and my friend got sick one after another since we were sharing a bed. You can be assured that I will never again stay in your hotel, but I hope that you take a note of your front desk manager Frau Elizabeth. I traveled all over the world and I was never so angered and disappointed in a hotel. I am sending a copy of this letter to my travel agent as well as posting it on numerous travel websites as a review of your hotel.
Excellent!
Just returned from a fortnight in Mayrhofen. I have previously stayed in the Neuhaus and wouldn't consider anywhere else. The main hotel is 4 star but as I'm on a budget, I opted for the 3 star Landhaus. Rooms are smaller but when in Mayrhofen you really don't need to spend much time in your room! If you are staying in the main building, the rooms are beautiful. The staff are fantastic and are always willing to help you, bikes can be rented for free in the summer and the hotel provides a walking guide, Christine, who takes hotel guests on walks Mon-Fri. The meals are good and cater for most appetites. Entertainment is provided every afternoon and evening by a talented Slovakian duo who work very hard to please the guests. I would thoroughly recommend Hotel Neuhaus.
What a fantastic Holiday ! BUT check the small print in the brochure !
Firstly, this Hotel was recommended to us by a family member, So we booked it for a 10day break in June 2006. The one thing I was told was to check the brochure, (as in Crystal's) the advert showed the Main hotel (4 star), but the pricing was based upon the annex (2/3 stars!). We had to pay an extra £12 pp/pn to make sure we had a room in the Main hotel, and with my wife and child this was quite an extra expense on top of the advertised price. So Please book CARFEFULLY. That is my only gripe about this holiday ! The room we where allocated was a really nice room, adequate in size, with a balcony. The food was fantastic. I disagree with previous reviewers regarding the portion size. The meals consisted of 5 courses. Firstly a starter either served to you or a large selection from the buffet, then soup, then came the salad bufet which consisted of various types of salads including meats which you could help yourself to as much as you wished. Then came the main course which consisted of 3 choices. Whilst we stayed there, on wednesdays for the main course they had the Farmers BBQ which consisted of the following meats :- Chicken, Fillet steak, pork, sausages and also kebabs of meat & vegatables !!!. You could have as much as you liked and as many times as you liked. (but there was that much I never could go a second time!!) Finnaly the deserts, which consisted of again either a choice of 3 or a selection of the local cakes from the buffet. I must say that It was a releif to come home and just have 1 or 2 courses !!!!! The hotel staff were all very helpfull and couldn't do enough for you. The only reservation I had was for nightime entertainment, an austrian singer with the worst singing voice, singing his own versions to english songs. Maybe one or two nights of this would have been bearable, but 10 nights of it got too much !!! The pools where great and even the jacuzi. But we never got chance to sample the other delights. Mayrnhofen is a quaint village, which is quiet at night, appart from some bars. I recommend Mo's Bar which had live music with a band that could sing !! The holiday was a family holiday for us, mainly entertaining our 3 year old son. I would also recommend to anyone to get one of the "Z cards" from the Train Station. This cost us 49 euros each (adults) for the 10 days, which allowed us to ride on the trains and the use of the cable cars. Money well spent !!. This was a fantastic holiday for us and I would definetly go to this hotel again.
Hotel Neuhaus
There are 3 separate parts to this hotel, depending on how much u pay you will be in the 4 star section, what is i would say three star or then the Landhaus which would barely be classed as a 2 star. Our first nite following a mix up with the rooms we were put into the Landhaus. It was absolutely atrocious. The rooms were tiny with 2 single beds attached to the walls, so they couldn't even be pushed together (travelling with my boyfriend). Thankfully we were moved the following day to the nicest part of the hotel, and I must say it was lovely. Very spacious rooms and bathrooms, nicely decorated and kept very clean. Definitely lived up to the 4 stars it was given. Breakfast was good with a broad selection and eggs made to order, however, as with most Austrian hotels dinner on half board was terrible, tiny portions with liitle choice. So we ate out every night. The hotel is in a good location close to bars and restaurants and the ski lift. It has a fantastic wellness centre and I definitely recommend a full body massage! The one downside was that the outdoor heated pool was not open. In general the hotel was pretty quiet, but I think most of the hotels in Austria are, as the night life is centred around bars etc. However don't go thinking you are going to have a wild time as most are in bed by midnight to be up for a day on the slopes. All in all a great trip, Mayrhofen is excellent for boarding/skiing. If you were guaranteed to be in the main part of the hotel, I would definitely recommend Neuhaus, and I would certainly go back. One last thing, we (group of 9) travelled with Crystal Holidays and I must say, NEVER again. They were a disgrace of a holiday company. Never helped us out at all, or came looking to see if we were OK. We never once saw a Crystal rep in our hotel, one of our party broke his collarbone and when we went to the office to find out what to do, thay could not have cared less. Unbelieveable. This is compared to the star treatment we received from Panorama Holidays the previous year, who were extremely helpful and always around to offer their assistance. When I book my snowboarding trip for next year, it most certainly not be with Crystal.
The Good and the Bad
Just back from Mayrhofen March 06. Hotel Neuhaus at lower end of town. Generally pretty good. Staff quite friendly, Rosi the bar waitress was really nice and pleasant, Wolfgang the barman was a bit straightfaced but efficient, chambermaid was excellent, hard working and friendly (room 248) Pool was pleasant but spa on the cool side. Food was decent by Austrian standards with a good variety. On the downside, the rooms were off a stairwell and very noisy (tiled/hard surfaces), the beds were hard and not what you want after a hard days snowboarding. On balance we enjoyed our stay but there are areas for improvement. Probably not as good as the '4*Strasse Hotel' by the Penkenbahn lift.
This is deception!
This hotel was booked through Inghams Ski Holidays. The brochure said we would be staying in the Landhaus annex but implied that it would be at the main hotels 4 star standard. It was not! I would decribe it as a two star. Not even a kettle to make a cup of tea. We were expecting fluffy towels we didn't get them. The Landhaus is about 100 metres from the main hotel along very icy uncleared paths. It has to be said the main hotel was very nice but there were a lot of unhappy people staying in the Landhaus.
never returning!!!!
visit began 3/7/04. Long trip arrived at midnight but still were able to order food. Room small for 2 adults and 1child but adequate and clean. Main problems were that staff were not as friendly and accommodating as we were used to in Austria. Kids club rep wrote in biro upon my daughters arm and on complaining the recepetion accused us of lying, despite the fact that there were witnesses. The one occassion that my daughter attended the 'kids club' she got stuck in the lift on her own because the rep was too busy looking after too many children on her own.(she didnt enter the lift soon enough). Overall I feel that the 'kids club' covers too wide an age group with not enough staff to be safe, After her bad experience in the lift my daughter would not go near the Kids club for the remainder of our vacation, despite the underhand bribery attempted by the rep.!!!! The food in the hotel was rather average some days they would run out of salad, despite it being on the menu, saying "well it was made yesterday", and I was in the restaurant eating within 20 minutes of it opening with many hotel guests still left to eat. Mayrhofen itself was not what was expected scenery stunning but town touristy and dissapointing with many trashy shops, again people were rude and sullen. We will never stay at the neuhaus again, we may travel back to mayrhofen but will definitely stay further out of the town. The best bit of our vacationwas the visit to the dairy justa 15 minute walk out of town much underrated. Great visit for children and parents alike.
