Jul 2007, Mr D North
Had a most enjoyable stay with my wife, despite the rain. However, the hotel gym and pool, Jacuzzi, saunas made up for it. The wife even had a spa treatment for £35, a facial; she told me she spends more for one back in Leeds. The staff were friendly and food very nice... more

A great place to stay
from VPA
I stop at the Crown one or two times a month through my job as a sales manager for a company based in Scarborough, but i come from the Leicester Area and it has been excellent from the welcome i receive at the reception area to the room i have and the meals that i have had at the restaurant. The gym and the pool is first class. Staff are allways willing to help and i must congratulate the sales manager for all the hard work she puts in to make it work.
Very expensive, poor service, staff uncaring.

We payed £104 a night stay for 2 nights ( Thursday and Friday, 21st and 22nd September/ 06 ) The staff on reception couldnt of been more unsuitable to the job if they tried, they didnt tell us which floor our room was on or where the pool was located, the didnt even tell us what time breakfast was served The room was fine on first entering but we soon found that the bathroom door didnt lock or even close not very good as we had a 22 month old with staying with us the towel heater was on when we arrived which resulted in our daughter...

Not excellent but was good.
from A TripAdvisor Member
A pleasant stay, good choice, but could never be described as excellent. From the outside, needs a coat of paint, and plenty of filler. Ground floor entrance has been painted. Reception lounge, the most hideous carpet, salmon pink swirls, that reminds you of a local authority old people's home. The leather settees are looking tired. Reception desk hidden behind a corner, so no grand entrance. The stairs in front of you is poor. So on arrival disappointed, after reading other reviews. Staff are very good, tho' you can sit...

So near - yet so far
from HertfordFamily
4 nights 2 rooms - 210 & 212 Well - first the good bits. Congratulations to the chef - food was 1st rate in the restaurant, weekend staff were attentive and pleasent although midweek staff were less so, fewer of them. You can book Table d'hote meal for £20 on a off the street basis for 4 courses of good local foods well cooked and presented. I would recommend eating there - good choice of reasonable wines too. Bar nice & staff friendly but drinks expensive. Hotel Spa was a delight and kept spottless - although if they are...

no problems for us at the crown
from mart50
this was our first stay at the crown and i have to say overall we enjoyed it. we stayed there for a couple of nights on our wedding anniversary. i think most of the refurbishment must now be done. we stayed in room 320 and it had obviously already been done. new carpet, clean and tidy bathroom, we had no complaints whatso ever. the pool and gym facilities are excellent, we spent a couple of hours in the pool, spa and saunas. the staff we came across were all polite and helpfull. the only problem we had was the first morning at...

Run, don't walk from the Crown Spa
from ohnctx
The views from the Crown Spa Hotel are beautiful. The service, rooms, and cleanliness of this hotel were greatly lacking. At bedtime we found that the maid had forgotten to change the sheets on the bunk beds; a manager quickly came to our room with fresh sheets but denied that the sheets on the bed were dirty, even after I pointed out all the black hairs and candy wrappers which were on the sheet. The bathroom door and handle had dried mucus from a prior guest. Both dressers had broken drawers which kept falling off. Our room was...

It gets better each time we return

The Crown Hotel ( Now called The Crown Spa Hotel ) Esplanade. Scarborough My wife and I have been going to The Crown for nearly 15 years, originally FORTE then Heritage. And more recently by two brothers Mr Richard & David Franks as well as some very loyal members of staff " Daphne " to name but one. Over the last few years The Crown has been transformed, having had several millions of pounds spent which really does show, from the Reception, to the Restaurant, Lounge, Bistro bar, to all the guest rooms, even new toilets...

Deserves four stars
from A_Loiner
Having written a scathing review of a 5-star hotel earlier this year we were not expecting a lot from this 3-star establishment. How wrong we were, it deserved at least four stars. We found all the staff friendly, including dining room which has been criticised in the past. A couple of faults in our room (including a breakage due to my clumsiness) were fixed same day. Rooms clean, comfortable, but not large. Dining room functioned well during our stay, breakfast sometimes buffet (but menu states staff will serve if desired) but mainly waiter...

relaxing break
from bobbyblade
relaxing break at the crown. staff friendly, food very good, usual breakfast and lovely evening meal served in a pleasant dining room. very quiet at night so dont expect too much exitement. rooms pleasant though the shower was naff, bonus was the gym, pool areas with steam, sauna and jacuzzi. All in all one of the better hotels in town.

My husband and I took my parents to the Crown for a couple of nights along with our 3 year old son. Generally found it good, although my parents did have to move rooms due to decorating going on all around them which wasn't too relaxing! Our son loved the pool and I thought the spa area was really good, and generally quiet. However, the ladies changing rooms did not have a shower (the mens did though!!). Room OK, although sofa bed for our son was very scruffy and looked a bit lethal. We had dinner in the restaurant on the first...
