We booked this as a last minute holiday. Although we booked on a four star basis, we were actually staying in the annex which is three star. However, this made no difference to the enjoyment of our holiday - mostly because we were out skiing all day. The Kramerwirt is an... more

Charm, Convenience & Culture
Took a late Thomson booking for a skiing trip. The single room was very compact (with toilet, washbasin and shower squeezed into a room little bigger than a wardrobe), but it was very clean, tidy and comfortable. The hotel oozes Austrian charm, being decorated with Kroell family pictures and traditional religious iconography. One gets the impression a lot of pride is at stake in the service provided. The food was just stunning, both in quality and quantity. Breakfast included one’s pick of hot and cold buffets, with a huge selection fruits, preserves, meats, cheeses and breads. The set dinner had four courses: starter, soup, choice of three main courses (selected at breakfast-time) and a desert. However, even this could be supplemented with salad and breads. Beer cost 3.70 euros per half-litre, a coffee 2.50 and wine also 2.50 per glass (which worked out the same price as buying a whole bottle of the cheapest). The sun terrace at the front of the hotel is idyllic for lunch or afternoon tea. My second-floor balcony overlooked the church square at the back of the hotel and allowed views up and down the valley. The church bells and revellers outside were noisy at times (it was Snowbombing week, after all), so it was important to turn the heating off and keep the windows closed at night. Still, the hotel location is fabulous: central for all the amenities, but away from the 24-hour bustle of the main street. Best of all, local buses do request-stops just outside (beware: not always on the side of the road that has the Halterstelle sign!) and it’s only a short, level walk to the train station, where the longer-distance buses also stop. This means (snow permitting) it’s easy to ski a different fabulous place every day: Kaltenbach and Zell-am-Ziller down the valley (about 6 and 3 stops on the train, respectively); the Penken and Ahorn areas at Mayrhofen itself (local buses); the Rastkogel/Eggalm area up the valley (Green-line bus); and the Hintertux Glacier at the top (Green-line bus, too): the 180 euro Zillertal pass covers them all, plus limitless free train and bus rides. According to Skiline.cc I skied well over 240 km during the week, spread across the six areas. So, DON’T put your skis in a ski locker near one lift: pick your day’s skiing according to snow conditions and today’s weather forecast: cold and stormy, stay low in the valley; blue skies and low wind, head high. I’m sold on Mayrhofen and the Kramerwirt and I will definitely be back.
Excellent holiday - great service
Just got back from skiing and had a fantastic holiday. The snow and skiing was amazing with so many slopes to choose from. The hotel was great. About 8 minutes walk from the Gondola. For £15 you can keep your skis and boots here, money well spent to have heated boots on a cold day. We had a superior room and it was really big with a lovely balcony and mountain views. The bathroom had a lovely heathed floor and a bath - a must after skiing. The staff were friendly and accomodating. I am lactose intolerant and if there wasn't anything on the menu that night that I could eat they asked me what I would like and cooked it especially for me and it was wonderful food. Lots to choose from, even if you are a fussy eater like me. I would most certainly go back to this hotel again
A very nice catered hotel
We stayed for a week at the Kramerwirt while on a Thomson Ski package holiday so had dinner and breakfast there each night. It's a very nice, traditional hotel with great service, good food and comfortable warm rooms. The breakfast was extensive and covered most tastes - it all tasted fresh and delicious. The dinner menu's were very well varied and including some local cuisine as well as more standard fare. The choice of three main courses was sufficient and I enjoyed pretty much every meal I had there. Our room was very clean and had a lovely view of the church. Although we'd have preferred a double bed, the two singles pushed together was fine. If you're skiing in Mayrhofen, this is a great base. They have a ski room with heated boot rack and it has a ski bus stop outside. The only real negative is the wine which is overpriced considering the supermarket across the road sells plenty of 3 euro bottles. We ended up drinking beer and soft drinks with meals which is fine but would have preferred more reasonable house wines. You can tell it has a family tradition as the service is friendly and talkative (without being over bearing). All in all we'd definitely go back and recommend it heartily.
Excellent Hotel
The Kramerwirt Hotel is an excellent hotel situated in a perfect location in Mayrhofen. The rooms are huge and spotless and the staff are extremely friendly and helpful. Our room was in the Annex and was by far the largest, most impressive ski hotel room I have stayed in. The food is good with a good selection for all tastes. They also have speciality nights...the Italian is definately worth staying in for. The beer is excellent and not too expensive. The ski bus stops right outside and takes you to the Penken Gondola in a few minutes. Ski room was great with easy accessed and also had heated rails for your boots so they were toasty for the next morning. Mayrhofen has plenty of bars and restaurants to keep you occupied whether you want to party or have a quiet night. The ski runs were excellent as were the lift systems. I would recommend Mayrhofen for skiers and snowboards and definately recommend the Kramerwirt!!!
Mixed experience
This was the first time we stayed at the Kramerwirt, though we had eaten there when staying in a nearby Pension. Our room was in the main hotel, but in the new section to the back of the building (right hand side). The room was barely three star, with a dirty chair, burn marks on the carpet and two broken lightbubs. It was dark and lacking in any extras, e.g. fridge. The bulbs were immediately replaced when we complained, but were told that the hotel was full, so there was no chance of being moved to a superior room. (We would have had to pay for this, but were willing to do so.) The food was reasonable and the staff in the restaurant were excellent-really friendly and helpful. They made up for the horrendously rude barman in the hotel bar. He singularly ignored us on several occasions and was surly when we were eventually served. The hotel is pretty well located, (next to the church and it's bells!), and the ski bus stops outside. You can easily walk to the Penken and Ahorn lifts in approx 10 mins, which we did everyday. I would recommend leaving ski boots and skis in the ski depot at the top of the Penken to avoid lugging them back and forth. Overll we had a good holiday, but I would probably stay elsewhere if visiting Mayrhofen again.
Good but not fantastic
Good stuff first: Food was lovely and waiting staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful. As was the lady in the wellness centre, which was well kitted out (although you had to pay extra which is unusual in 4* hotels in Ireland). The reception staff were mixed; some lovely, some pretty dismissive. The bar staff were very poor - no charisma or even basic 'how was your day?' stuff. It left us in a quandry as the rest of the Mayrhofen bars are fairly hectic and we would have been at home in our low-key bar if it had a more welcoming atmosphere. In general, the hotel is bigger than it seems in the brochure, so not as cosy or intimate as other Austrian hotels we have stayed in. The room was nice (in the usual Austrian no-match decor way) but it was definitely chilly at night. And for goodness sake, in a hotel like this to not have enough hot water EVERY DAY is just crazy but it did frequently run out. Overall, if we hadn't read so many 5-star reviews, we wouldn't feel as let down as we do. So hopefully this will give other a more realistic expectation. We paid extra for a bit of luxury and charm but this is not what's on offer at the Kramerwirt.
Nice location and traditional
We stayed in the kramerwirt mainly due to the fact it came across as a traditional hotel. Although at the bottom end of mayrhofen the location was pretty much spot on as i think if you were towards the centre you may be bothered with noise. The breakfast was particulary good and we found the staff very good. That said the bar man who took the outside orders was a little off to start with but did mellow within a couple of days. The reception and breakfast staff were particularly helpful and friendly. We enjoyed a great day walking to nearby Finkenberg {sunny day}, up the gondola to the middle station had lunch then onto the top station and short nice walk to the chairlift to take you down to the gondola to a village next to mayrhofen as the main new gongola was closed into mayrhofen.
Excellent Service!!
Myself and 7 friends stayed at the Hotel Kramerwirt for one week during January 2007. It was fantastic. The service was unquestionable and the staff were all friendly and extremely helpful. I came down ill with severe tonsilitis on the day of our arrival and having visited the doctor in Mayrhofen on Sunday morning there were no chemists open in the resort. The hotel receptionist was fantastic and offered me some 'strepsil' type throat lozenges to reduce the pain and sent up a big flask of tea and honey to my room so that I could rest with plenty of fluids. The food was delicious with plenty of variety on offer from the wonderful buffets. We felt it was the best hotel in the resort and would all definitely stay there again.
Kramerwirt hotel excellent
My wife and I stayed in this hotel a few years ago We found it to be of a very high standard Food excellent with themed menus each day eg one day a starters buffet, another day a main course buffet, cheese buffet, dessert buffet etc. Also could have full english breakfast if desired Handy bus stop outside connects to bus station or railway station for rest of Ziller valley and also stops for slopes eg. Penken Would go back again without hesitation Drawback - hotel a bit on big side so not as personal as others we have used
real Austrian comfort
Everything we hoped for in a traditional Austrian Hotel. From the friendly and helpful staff to the spacious and quiet rooms. Relaxing spa (as long as you don't mind getting your kit off in public) at a small extra cost. Lovely wood panelled dining rooms, I recommend eating a la carte at least once if you can. Reasonably priced and palatable Austrian wines, much of the food grown on the hotel's own farm. Only bad points are the useless hairdryers and the daft pillows. You might hear the church clock strike if you haven't had enough skiing or drinking to sleep through it. Heated boot racks in the ski room and the ski bus stops outside (but you have to signal).
