Flamingo 2007
from OludenizDorset
We have just returned from a family holiday in Oludeniz. Visted the resort previously, but this was the first time staying at the Flamingo Hotel. The initial overall impressions of the hotel was good. Our rooms were small, cramped and VERY noisy at night, as it was right underneath the bar-area. This after we requested a room in Flamingo-2, but on arrival was told that it was an internet booking and couldnt be guaranteed. Thankfully we only use our hotel rooms on holiday to sleep in, it wouldnt be able to spend the day in these rooms. We did not not have any view from our little balconies(not sea or mountain views) I would only recommend this hotel for youngsters that like a noisy holiday.

We arrived at Flamingo around 11:00 pm so it was hard to tell what it was like. First impressions were good though with a friendly receptionist and assistance to our room. Upon arrival you are given a hotel 'credit card' which I hadn't experienced before. It was great, you just flash the card whenever you order any food or drink and sign the docket. As long as you keep a tally you won't get any nasty surprises at the end of the week. It was much better than having to keep money on you whilst at the poolside and you don't feel obliged to tip every time you pay for a drink or a meal. The overall experience was very good. All the staff were really friendly, especially Ferdi and Ben. The rooms were all air conditioned and were kept clean by the staff on a daily basis. The view of the mountains from the hotel was lovely, especially at sunset, when the mountains had a lovely orange glow to them. Our only criticism would be of the breakfast - if you don't like cold meats and cheeses for breakfast, you'll be hungry. This was the only option every day. Having said that you could supplement this with cereal and boiled eggs if you wanted. Evening meals were a different story, definitely recommended. Don't expect too much of the Sunday roast though. Like all the other meals in Turkey, it is served with rice and salad. Bless 'em!
Nice hotel, Beautiful scenery

My husband and I stayed here July of 2006. It was a lovely hotel with very friendly, helpful staff. Nice clean rooms, nice pool and food so-so. We mostly spent our time at the lagoon which was a bit crowed but very nice. I found that the town of Oludeniz was very touristy (we were told it was exactly the opposite) and the restaurants really catered to the English tourists. So we mostly went to Hisaronu up in the mountains for dinner. Still mostly English food, but a few more authentic turkish dishes. We went on one excursion which was excellent and highly recommended. For only 8 pounds it included a trip to Tlos(old tombs, really neat), lunch at a trout farm (very beautiful surroundings, with waterfalls all around), a turkish rug co-op(showing locals making fantastic carpets) and lastly Saklikent Gorge(the biggest gorge in Europe, very impressive). All in all this was a wonderful holiday and we would definatly go back!

We go back to olu deniz on a regular basis. The hotel flamingo is definatley our favourite. Zafer and the boys are an excellent team. They go out of there way to make you feel welcome. I am already booked for summer 2007. You can't fail to have a good time here, plus the pool bar will stay open as late as you can. We all love the bevvies .Many of my friends have been since i have told them about it and the have loved it just as much. The hotel is not formal but is always kept extrmley clean and the rooms are a good size and standard. I think it is most definatley the atmoshpere and views which make this hotel so special. You'll have a fantastic stay here. Oh yeh try captain hooks restaurant the foods fab.x

We arrived at Flamingo Hotel on August 22nd, and from the moment you step into the hotel you can see how friendly all the staff are by giving you a great welcome. We stayed in Flamingo two which is slightly newer than the old buildings (Flaminigo one), by being a bit more spacious. The rooms are spectacular, with having your rooms cleaned everyday and having a great view of the mountains and the coast line of the sea. The waiting staff are so friendly and I would give them a deffinat 10/10 for service. The food is top notch, and make sure that if your heading towards the bar that one night you try there special redbull and vodka. There was always something going on at the hotel especially at night including, fish night where you can have either seabass or seabrew and then theres always a large buffet, then there is the turkish night where there is a large bbq and belly dancing there speciality is the soup its gorgous(you'll be crazy not to try it). Then not forgetting killer pool night where they have a big compertion of pool it really is a laugh and the winner gets a free cocktail.Yum! The hotel is situated in a quiet part of Oludeniz with the main beach only 10 minutes walk or theres always the dalmas. All I can say that it's a top class hotel and I hope you love it as much as what we did.
An average hotel

I was immediately disappointed as soon as we arrived at the hotel as I had requested a double room in Flamingo 2, but was given a twin room in Flamingo 1. The hotel was not busy and there were plenty of vacant rooms. We had problems as soon as we arrived with the air conditioning remote not working and the toilet not flushing! Thankfully, these problems were resolved by ourselves. Overall, the rooms were kept clean and were no more than a place to sleep for us. We did not spend much time at the hotel due to excursions in the daytime.
Flamingo 1

We (2) travelled to the Flamingo Hotel, Olu Deniz, with Anatolian Sky Holidays in June 2006. We flew from Birmingham to Dalaman. Although ostensibly an Excel Airways flight, the plane was actually an Air Malta Airbus. We had paid extra to be seated together, and were, indeed, seated together. However, because of the number of empty seats, a certain amount of seat-swapping took place among the other passengers. I found the plane uncomfortable because of a shortage of legroom. The seat pitch appeared to be a little on the mean side. We left Birmingham approximately 30 minutes late. We arrived at Dalaman at approx 2300 local time. We were met at Dalaman Airport by Anatolian Sky minibus drivers, and, reassuringly, were on everybody's lists. The transfer to Olu Deniz took about 90 minutes. Our room was in the part of the hotel known as Flamingo 1. This is the older part of the complex. The Flamingo 2 part of the hotel is the newer part and some building work was still taking place here when we visited. Overall, we were happy with the Flamingo, and were we to return to Olu Deniz would have no qualms about staying there again. There are, however, some observations that should be made. As a consequence of comments read on the internet, we asked to not be located on a ground floor in Flamingo 1. This request was fulfilled, whether by intent or accident we do not know. This proved to be a valuable piece of information, as the Ground Floor of one of the Flamingo 1 blocks is actually below the level of the pool terrace, and does have the appearance of a basement level. At least one of the guests visiting at the same time requested, and was granted a different room after being allocated one on this floor. The water heating sytem, and other ancillary equipment, is also housed within this block, and I would not be surprised if this equipment generated a degree of noise - although I cannot confirm this. There were also a number of insects in and around the complex (unsurprisingly), and I suspect the ground floors are probably visited by more "little friends" than the higher level rooms. Our room was spacious, with a good view of the pool terrace area, and was furnished with twin beds. It also had a tv (which only had 5 channels on it - the 2 English ones being BBC World and VH1). It also had air-conditioning. Storage space was poor, and an opportunity was missed to provide extra storage, considering the amount of floor space available. A steep part of the busy main road into the town is close to the hotel, and the noise of vehicles labouring up the hill can be quite noticeable. Visitors will also discover that the Call to Prayer from the local mosque can be heard at 5am, although it caused us no problem. The hotel bar is not particularly well stocked. In particular, the choice of soft-drinks is very poor. The waiting staff are pleasant enough, although those unfamiliar with the culture might find them a little over-bearing. Additionally, we were a little annoyed when a friendly breakfast conversation became a pretext for selling tickets to a Barbecue & Belly Dancing event. The hot water supply was a little unpredictable. The hotel seemed unwilling or unable to provide an adequate hot-water supply at those times when the, normally reliable, solar water heating system was unable to cope with demand. The first item listed on the information sheet in the room was to the effect that it is forbidden to bring food or drink from the outside into the hotel. This was reinforced by a prominent sign near to the entrance. I thought this short-sighted, and believe that if the hotel provided a little more added-value in certain areas, they could increase revenues without being heavy-handed in a way that antagonises its customers. The breakfast choice was another bone of contention. Although it is understood that a Turkish breakfast consists of Bread, Cheese, and Fruit, it seems petty to not provide cereal free of charge, particularly as the majority of customers are British, and would like a little cereal for breakfast. There were empty seats on the plane, there are empty hotel rooms, and many businesses are experiencing reduced revenues. Businesses under these pressures need to be nurturing repeat business rather than penny pinching. Snacks provided during the day proved uninspiring, and we were glad we didn't have half-board, as the general food quality was ordinary. The Welcome pack provided by the tour operator stressed the importance of not flushing toilet paper down the toilet, because of the local sewage system's inability to deal with waste of this nature. This point was also the first thing mentioned by Fiona, our Anatolian Sky rep, at our welcome meeting. We were, therefore, quite stunned to discover, on our return to our room following this very meeting, that the maid had unsuccessfully attempted to flush the contents of our waste bin down the toilet. Unfortunately for her, and us, she had been unsuccessful in this, and most of the tissues and other paper items, including our airline baggage tags, were stuck in the bottom of the toilet. Judicious use of a bent coat hanger retrieved these items from the said toilet, and we disposed of these items ourselves in the rubbish bin. From that point on - knowing that the maid was flushing tissue down the toilet, we were careful to not put anything but minimal quantities of tissue into the waste bin, and undertook to dispose of our own waste in the rubbish bin adjacent to our accomodation block. We did consider the possibility that the maid was related to a plumber who was called out to unblock the plumbing system when "tourists" flushed prohibited items into the system. We also considered the possibility that the aforementioned maid had some sort of grievance against the hotel, and was surreptitiously causing problems with the sewage system by way of revenge. Either way, she wouldn't get my vote for Employee of the Month. Overall, the Flamingo was a reasonable place to stay, and anyone planning to go to Olu Deniz can plan a stay here with a reasonable degree of confidence. It should be noted that the Flamingo is about 15 minutes (slight uphill) walk from the SeaFront and could be quite demanding for the less able in hot conditions. Olu Deniz town (village?) is best described as a small shopping/restaurant centre. It has a number of bar/restaurants, a number of mixed-goods shops, and a number of establishments selling trips, activities and other experiences - all of whom have representatives on the street actively encouraging passers-by to part with their cash. The beach is good, with plenty of seats and shades to hire.
Blackpool in the sun
from SimonC111
Ok, so if you like Blackpool in the sun then you will love Olu Deniz. We were bitterly dissapointed with the resort which was jam packed with bars and restuarants offering traditional Turksih cuisine of 'Roast Dinner' and 'Full English Breakfast'. In fact, the real selling point of the resort was that it offered real tesco sausgaes and Heinz baked beans! Seriously though, the weather was fab, the hotel basic and a little noisy (the pool is overlooked by the hill road which links the resort to the main port). The lagoon is overcrowded and over priced. Luckily we were on a gulet for 4 days out of the 7 we were there which was amazing. Forget the mainland and enjoy the view from a boat!

Loved the Flamingo 2
from Danny_Boyd
I went to the Hotel Flamingo 2, in early September 2004. My parents have recently bought a villa in Calis Beach so we decided to go to nearby Olu Deniz so we could view the villa. I have been to Olu Deniz before, I stayed in the Tower Hotel, which was also excellent. Hotel Flamingo 2 was great, theres a lovely running stream down the side of the stairs up to the appartments. Two pools, as you can use both Flamingo 1 & 2's pools. Flamingo 2 pool is shaped like a turtle and is very inviting. Bar service was great, although we didnt by the pool for long. Olu Deniz beach is gorgeous. We only paid £300 for a week with bed & breakfast but never actually had the breakfast. Rooms were cleaned everyday but were quite small.
This hotel is by far the worst in Olu Deniz (been there 5 times). Quick summary of my experience; - Manager was VERY rude, arrogant, argumentative and had zero customer service skills. - Air con is free with some operators, not with ours which was not mentioned until check... more
