Schwebebahn Hotel

holiday brochure pictures and description looked great, booked our holiday on the strength of this. Sadly, we were allocated room 214 ,dont remember getting into the tardis but when we got out of it we were in 1973. The room was cold,dark and overlooking the bins at the back, sink and bath were cracked as well as the balcony, for which we had paid a supplement. Apparently hotel was full so were unable to change rooms. Some staff were ok but others rude and unwilling to help.Food was ok but buffet every night. Only good point was easy access... more

Stayed here 12/01/08 until 19/01/08 on a skiing holiday. The location is fabulous ski in ski out and particularly for families with small children. The hotel itself is antiquated, rooms very small and in bad need of an interior decor job, you can upgrade where the rooms are more to the standard you would have expected to get anyway for a four star hotel. We have nothing but praise for the welcome, facilites and overall service we received at the Hotal Schwebebahn ! The owners were charming and welcoming and their staff were all courteous, available and attentive. Everybody spoke perfect English. The food was mostly excellent. Very Austrian but that is what we like when visiting the country. We were all inclusive but the drinks never stopped coming !! Recently returned from a week at this hotel and can't praise it enough. Everything was excellent - the location, the rooms, the food, the staff, the service and the views all made our first visit to the Austrian Alps perfect. Next to the hotel was the cable car up to the top of the Schmittenhohe mountain (2000 metres) where the views were stunning - 30 other mountains can be seen from the top. Lovely hotel setting and location, particuarly if you are a skier who can manage two moderately wide and manageable black runs back to the hotel. Ski and boot hire and ski school met just outside the hotel which was a real bonus with our two little ones aged 8 & 9. Umbrella bar immediately outside hotel for apres ski hot chocolate and gluwein and a cosy bar inside with a real fire were all well appreciated facilities! We booked for a 7 day all inclusive stay and arrived at around 8.30 at night and by the time we had completed registration forms (8.55) were told we were too late to go to restaurant (told meals served 7-9) so we were given a 'cold plate' consisting of one roll each and a couple of slices of ham and cheese, very poor after a days travelling. Not a great start to an all inclusive break. As said went on me first ski h/day Jan 04 then back on Jan 05.....Very good hotel all round and a great base for ski in/out. Ski school on the door step and lifts to the top 100 yards away. Being picky.... Not a problem for us but Hotel at the top of Zell town so not that easy to get down to the bus on snowy nights and getting back via taxi took some bribing bue to ice at the hotel end. An excellent hotel in nearly every way. Clean, Friendly, very good bedrooms, nice pool and sauna (spa needs updating). Food was excellent and on buffet nights plenty of it and of good quality. Buffet breakfast again very good and plenty of it however the scrambled eggs every day was in need of a change. The set meals on 2 / 3 nights per week (a la carte chosen at breakfast) were still good however pre-prepared presumably to let the chefs take their day/s off. Excellent hotel for skiers. Friendly staff, great food. Ski from the door to ski school meeting place or main lifts. Skiing back to hotel is a little more tricky (via either of 2 fairly straightforward black runs or a blue run which ends 2-300 metres down the hill and requires a good walk carrying skis). If you are not a fairly decent skier, it is easy to catch the gondola down to just below the hotel. Good ski hire shop immediately below the hotel. 2km outside town but buses are regular and taxis seemed plentiful. All in all... more

Having never been to Austria before we did not know where to stay. As we looked through the holiday brochures Hotel Scwebebahn jumped out at us. It is an all inclusive dream hotel, it was perfect in everyway, the food was fantastic, everywhere was clean and tidy and the staff were so polite, helpful and friendly we could not of wished for more. The area, Zell am See was just as special as the hotel, clean , tidy and loads of nice shops. All in all the only complaint we had was the big hill we had to walk up to get to the hotel but... more
