A truely Austrian Hotel with excellent service, food and accommodation. We took our holiday not knowing where we were staying and we were not in the least disappointed. We have taken many holidays in the past but never had such good service or warm welcome. We would most... more

good but not premium
having booked "premium" hotel on arrival, there was always going to be an element of risk in what we were allocated but at this end of the market you expect this to be negligible. our first room was cramped, poorly lit, beside the lift shaft, overlooking a back alley and depressingly decorated. not how we wanted to spend our christmas break. thankfully we only had to spend one night in this room before being moved to another. this one offered a more comfortable space with balcony over looking the street to the front. the decoration was still bleak and the bathroom smaller but the trade off was worth it to avoid spending another night in our first room. finally on the rooms they lacked the little extras you become accustomed to finding, a shower cap for one would have been appreciated. thats the bad bits , the rest of the hotel was comfortable and oozed charm. the bar was cozy and inviting the restaurant traditional with character. the owners who seemed ever present were friendly and ran a tight ship. the staff couldn't have done more from the bar, through the restaurant to the cleaners all pleasant and helpful. the biggest plus for this hotel is it's central location, centre of town 2 mins from anywhere. would i recommend it, yes but not if it's premium your after.
Fantastic hotel....
Having read some of the reviews that complained about the food i felt it was important to write back to give a true descrption of this hotel. Being a vegetarian in Austria is not really recommended however the Lebzelter covered all my needs and more! The food was out of this world and there was so much to choose from! Me and my family were there over Christmas and the food did not disappoint! The location was beautiful. There was lots of thing sto do at chrismas including a lovely display by the people of zell am see as they bring a tree up from the lake! was so romantic! Zell am See is a truly beautiful place to stay and as I am an experienced skiier i feel that i can say that the slopes were fantastic! I would recommend this place to anyone...In fact i loved it so much i will be visiting again for christmas! Oh and i didn't hear a train once and people should be awake when the church bells go off anyway..its a skiing holiday for gods sake! x
Great central location
The hotel is in a ideal location in Zell, it is near the market square on a street with several restaurants. It is well away from the railway line so there is no noise from that source. The staff are very friendly and the hotel is popular with walkers and tours, especially English speaking visitors. We stayed on a bed and breakfast basis but you can also include an evening meal in the package. If you book an evening meal, you have to select it at breakfast which is a common practice in Austria. We did not have the evening meals and the menu looked average. There are lots of places to eat in the town for all budgets so I would recommend B&B and exploring. You can even eat in the front of the hotel from a different menu which is not an option if you pre book dinner. The hotel is decorated in a typical Alpine way, lots of wood and appears a little dark inside. The only issue we had was that the room was a little on the small side and had a small window overlooking the side of the hotel. The bathroom was also small and had a shower, not a bath. The room was supposed to sleep 3 people but I would not have liked to spend a lot of time there with 2 others and a week’s luggage. As we only stayed 3 nights and there were just 2 of us, it did not matter. We have been to Zell before and were happy to be in the middle of town. We had a ward welcome from everyone at the hotel and everyone could speak English. The breakfast was a typical hotel breakfast but was always very nice. We enjoyed our stay.
Lovely hotel in centre of town
We are a family of 2 adults & 2 children aged 7 & 14 and this was our first time skiing. First impressions of this hotel were very good & we were welcomed at the door & our cases taken from us. We were in a quad room which was very spacious with a double bed in the main room & a dining table & 4 chairs. There was a separate bedroom with 2 single beds which was also very spacious. The bathroom was of ample size with bath & shower over bath. We also got fresh towels every day & the room was very well cleaned & beds made daily. The food was of excellent quality & there was something to suit the whole family. The restaurant & bar staff were very helpful & friendly throughout our stay and I can honestly say it is the best service I have had from staff in any hotel. The hotel was located in the centre of town & very convenient to all bars & shops. There was noise at night when people came out of pubs but it was not to the extent it kept us awake or went on for very long. We all managed to get a good night sleep every night. The hotel is ideally located for the ski bus stop & the city express gondola. Overall we had a great stay in this hotel & would certainly go back again next year !!
Good value for money
I really liked this hotel - it was right in the centre of the town in a pedestrian area and only a short walk to the ski lifts. The room was perfectly acceptable - we didn't turn on the TV - better things to do on holiday to be honest. The shower was small but perfectly adequate although you did have to be careful as the shower could suddently go hot or cold depending (I assume) if someone turned on a tap elsewhere. The food was much better than I expected and the staff, in the main, were very nice and polite (one waitress had a bit of an attitude but nothing serious) and the bar was great - we spent many a happy hour in there. By the way - the boot room was quite big in my opinion and OK, you had to go down steps to get there but there were boot dryers for your ski boots which you don't get everywhere. Would I recommend this hotel - yes I would - it was great value for money and I found the staff very welcoming and friendly. The only negative was that as we were at the front of the hotel we did get a bit of noise from passing drunks in the early hours of the morning - but any hotel in the town centre is going to have the same problem.
NOT 4 Star by any stretch
Stayed in the Lebzelter 3-10th Feb....if you are looking for 4 star accomodation this is NOT it. I don't know how this hotel ever got this rating....it should be rated 2 star: No tea or coffee making facilities in the rooms Not all rooms have balconies You cannot get ino the sauna as it's too small and fills up within 5 mins of opening. Rooms were very very basic, small beds, tiny shower, 2 towels for a family of three! Ski/boot room is tiny and very awkward to get into. The tv channels are all really bad reception (why advertise tv in each room if you can't get a reception!) No fridge or any such facilities....drinks were cooled on the window sill! The staff were friendly and welcoming UNTIL the depatrure day when we were made to feel less than welcome and it was obvious they just wanted us out of the way! I would love to return to Zell but not in this hotel.
Great Hotel
Very pretty hotel in Town Centre. Very clean, Very friendly staff, rooms adequate with clean shower room. I'm 14 stone and fitted in the shower easily. Food was excellent value for money on half board basis, breakfast is ok, evening meal was above average. Despite being on the front of the hotel and the church bells do wake you up & the drunks are occasionally noisy we will definitely be returning to this hotel. Great atmosphere in main bar, not so good in downstairs cellar bar. What do people expect for 75 euros per night including breakfast & evening meal???
like your sleep? dont stay here
stayed at the lebzelter in january for our annual snowboard trip, hotel is situated in the centre of town and that was the reason we decided to book it as it was so close to everything, but we did not expect it to be so loud, the hotel itself was quiet it was just the drunks and church bells going of at 7am everymorning, ringing at least 60 times, plus it was the fact the bars are open until 4am, you could hear people singing and shouting at 4am, plus a few times a couple of windows were smashed in cafe opposite hotel, so most nights you only get about 6 hours sleep if you were lucky sometimes it was only 3 hours. we did ask to be moved as the hotel was not full but were told no, so the owners were not very helpful, rooms were very small and we even paid extra for an upgrade, bathroom only contained a toilet, sink and shower, some people may struggle to get into bathroom if they are big, there were no coffee or tea making facilites in the room, no iron or iron board, pretty basic in most hotels. breakfast time there was not much choice on the menu, just cheese and ham plus a few rolls to choose from, evening meal is much better food was 4 course and different every night. i would not stay in this hotel again.
Charming and friendly hotel
I can absolutely recommend hotel Lebzelter in beautyful Zell am See, Austria. We were two families (9 persons) who spent a couple of days there in July 2005, and can't wait to get back. Charming hotel built in a local tradition in the middle of the old centre of Zell am See. Close to everything. The staff was welcoming and friendly during our 3 nights stay. The food was excellent. We stayed in the annex, in spacious appertments. A small minus... the beds. They were not very comfortable, much too hard. Anyway, since everything else were brilliant, it makes up for the beds. We will come back! Anette
bring your earplugs
Hotel Lebzelter is located near the train station, shops, and the gondola. It has a charming Austrian chalet exterior. We stayed 4 nights. The room was basic....no shampoo, tissues, or hand lotion for chapped skin, however. Also,If you weigh more than 150 pounds you may not fit into the shower. Each morning we were awakened at 7AM by the church bells which rang 75 times in a row.At night we awoke often to the shouts and singing of revelers leaving the Pub downstairs. Our rate included breakfast and dinner. The food is hearty but each meal was interrupted by ill-mannered rude children constantly running to the salad bar, whining, or crying. Why weren't families with small children seated in the separate dining room?
