We were not sure what to think when we realised we were probably the youngest people on the plane heading to Lake Garda. We are in our early 30s and the average age of everyone else on the plane was around 65.
However, although, the resorts are quiet and relaxed there's plenty of walking, water activities, mountain biking opportunities for anyone wanting more energetic pursuits whatever your age, though it's definitely not the place if you're looking for a wild nightlife - which we weren't!
It's a lovely, scenic setting to relax and watch the world go by as well as eating gorgeous Italian food!
The Hotel Vega overlooks the lake a few minutes’ walk from the main town area. The rooms are fairly small and not particularly modern but extremely clean and tidy. We had a view of the road in front of us which wasn't the end of the world as we had a gorgeous view of the lake from the dining room.
Breakfast was a buffet with a fair amount of choice. We were initially looking to book a B and B so half board for the same price as other hotels was a bonus. We had thought we would maybe miss one of the evening meals to eat elsewhere but the food was really lovely so we ate at the hotel every night. Dinner is a 3 course meal (sometimes with additional appetisers).
The selections are made in the morning at breakfast from a small choice. The food was really tasty homemade dishes. One thing to bear in mind is that you can't buy wine by the glass at dinner, though you can buy a bottle that the staff will keep for you for the following evening.
It seemed like the hotel was a mainly a family run place and the couple in charge seem to be extremely hard working and work long hours. The staff were generally very helpful during our stay, though we got the impression that there was an atmosphere of rigidity about some things - if you stay there you might get a sense of what this means.
Overall our experience was great as we loved the setting and definitely felt refreshed on our return!
