If you stay in the Annex where most brits are automatically placed, make sure you book/pay for a balcony. You will need the extra room. We booked this on a last minute deal and the value for money was great. However had wwe book in advance and paid the full price. We would... more

The hotel was rated a 3 star by crystal. Its a glorified bed and breakfast at the very limit of the town of Mayrhofen. Although the breakfast is nice (tho slow) (and beware for the first 3 days you can wait 30-40 minutes if you like your eggs hard boiled, or if you... more

If you book the Annexe be prepaired for tiny, cold rooms. The en-suite is dated with the added bonus of being able to hear next door using shower, loo etc. If you can hear them then they can hear you. I thought this was going to be 3* accomodation, however it is a... more

I stayed in the hotel Obermair earlier this year with my mate and had an amazing time. The beauty about the location of the hotel is that it is situated just far away from all the noise but at the same time perfect walking distance to go out on the raz and have an awesome... more

Not a good place to stay
Here are the bad points about the Hotel Obermair 1. On one side is a farm with farm animals, so the hotel stinks of animal manure much of the time 2. On the other side is a bus marshalling yard, so from 5am there is a loud din of revving engines, and very loud piercing reversing alarms, so don't expect any sleep after that time if you are on that side of the hotel 3. Right in front of the hotel is a garage, so there is plenty of traffic noise 4. The main hotel is presentable, but the annex is a disgrace. Some of the rooms on the 1st floor are OK, but the ground floor ones are small, dark, dirty and depressing 5. Two of the beds in our room in the main hotel appeared to have bed bugs, with consequent itchy insect bites for the people in those beds 6. There is no restaurant or bar, and the hotel is about as far out of town as you can get. 7. The pool is small and chilly Good points: The bus stop in to town is right opposite
this is bed and breakfast only
we have have just come back from 1 week stay,if you want to relax down stairs in the lounge after a day skying there isnt one,we stayed in room number 2 which is for 4 people, which was a nice size, lots of storage, and kept very clean, there is no drinks bar, breakfast is continental,no fried eggs or bacon, the area is fantastic, and you have to go out so you see the lovley town,mo,s restaurauntis 5 mins away nice but liveley,ps the pool is tiny and freezing,we paid £1350 for 4 people which is value for money.
Was ok - Book the hotel not the Annex!
We stayed in the Obermair Feb 08. Location; The hotel is located at the edge of the town of Mayrhofen - The hotel is within walking distance to every part of the town as the village is only small, the lift is approx 10 minute walk (not to far if you leave your skis on the mountain) Staff; The staff in the hotel were very friendly for the most part. It is a family run hotel. Food; Breakfast was very good - there was a large choice of food on offer. We did not have dinner in the hotel. Room; We stayed in the Annex building and were misinformed by our travel agent, we were led to believe that it is the same standard as the main hotel. We were unfortunately disappointed, the annex rooms are smaller than in the hotel and we had some problems including; There was a large plain glass window in our bathroom which faces the main road, people could clearly see in so we needed a towel to cover the window. The heating was also not in full working order, we had 2 rooms and the same problem in 2 rooms. The power on the shower was minimal and there was no place to hook the shower head. Although we were told by other guests that the showers in the Main building were very good. Other; There was a pool in the hotel which was nice and clean although a little cold for our liking. There was also a sauna & steam room which were excellent. Even though the hotel advertises that the buildings are connected by an underground tunnel it is infact much easier & quicker to walk outside. *There is also no secure area to store your skis if you are staying the annex, only lockers are provided if you stay in the hotel.* Marhofen; The town is very nice, the people are excellent. We were a group of mixed level skiers and were all enjoyed ourselves. There are plenty of restaurants & bars to choose from including Cafe Coup & Mo's bar. There are plenty of ski rental shops around the town and there are also many places to book lessons. * We found Peter Habeler ski school to be the very best & prices are very reasonable. Peter Habeler ski school is about 100 meters from the ski lift, on the right side of the road walking from Obermair.*
Great Hotel
This is lovely little hotel. We had a room for 3 which was really a room for 2 with a third bed, but plenty of room. Break fast was great the usual continental style with cereal, rolls, pate's, cold meats and cheeses. Dinner was provided in another hotel which was only 2 mins walk and the food in there was very good. Both the ski lockers and the safe were free. The hotel is just on the edge of the town next to the local garage, which i think they also own. The bus stop is just outside the hotel. The walk from the hotel to the Penkenbhan ski lift is only about 10mins at the very most. We would recommend using the busses to get to all the different ski area as the main resort can get a bit boring after the first 3-4 days. There is also a train which takes you down to Zell am Ziller, which has a fantastic ski are ( we never knew this until the last day so never made it) The Greenline also takes you up to the glacier. I would recommend this hotel to anyone, the staff are very friendly and helpful. It as everything you could possibly need. The swimming pool, although small is good and there is also a sauna and steam room. Hope you enjoy as much a we did!
Walkers Paradise
I have just returned from a week’s stay at the Obermair B&B in Mayrhofen. I found it very clean and comfortable, and, as others have commented, seeing pets and children’s toys around the hotel made it even more homely. The rooms are beautifully laid out with wooden furniture and make main stream hotels appear ‘plastic’. The bathroom, although small, was very clean and the power shower was hot. As a walker, it was useful to have the balcony and small washing line to hang up wet clothes and the view (although above a petrol station) was still spectacular. Breakfast was most enjoyable, with vast amounts of meat, cheese and fruit, cereal (for the less adventurous!), tasty breads, croissants and all kinds of toppings. As with any hotel where you help yourself, it is worth getting there early (we found a huge difference in choice when we had breakfast an hour later than usual one morning). The closed sauna did not bother us and neither did the size of the pool, although this may matter to others. On arrival, the owner appeared flustered and slightly confused, but we were shown to our rooms quickly. Mayrhofen is a quiet and very clean town. If you do forget any of your walking/skiing clothes/gear, there are plenty of shops on the main high street. The Obermair only offers breakfast - if you go half board, you get your evening meal from a neighbouring hotel. We visited Café Traudl almost every night. It is situated behind the Penken lift and is run by the most hospitable family. The food is excellent and the service is very good. The food appeared very quickly, which I found impressive. Also, the Scotland Yard pub is very pleasant. Do not be put off by it’s gimmicky theme – the sofas outside are comfortable and the staff are quick to notice if you’re running dry! We took advantage of the free bus to Adler Blick restaurant which is also owned and run by the family. This takes about an hour and the views on the way there are spectacular. Once there you can walk along the lake or take in the views from the dam. Altogether an excellent holiday - highly recommended.
Great little hotel, Mayrhofen
Stayed here the first week of the Easter holidays, 2007 with my son. We were very impressed with the cleaniness of the hotel. For me breakfast was ideai as I'm not a lover of the British fry up,. Breakfast consisted of fruit, fruit juice, yogurt meats, cheeses, cereals, bread and spreads with choice of hot drinks. Dinner was taken in the Kramerwirt about 5 minutes up the road. There was a choice of main, one was always vegetarian. Twice in the week there was a buffet. Bread and salad buffet was always available. Food at dinner was good. I was impressed, this is coming from a chef. We went when they were experiencing hot weather and the heating was on, which made it rather warm. But opening the window and balcony door solved this problem. Be aware if you like to watch some television, you are out of luck, unless you can understand German. The swimming pool was rather small, but great for stretching out the muscles after a day on the slopes. Then there was the spa shower, which was great after a swim. The hotel is on the edge of town, so it was lovely and quiet at night. The ski bus stop is on the doorstep. One word of warning, if you are on the second floor, beware of the carpet, it does not go right up to the stairs. I kept on thinking it was another step, and going to step up, found I went no where.
Literally a bed for the night
A group of 12 of us recently stayed at this hotel as a basis for skiing. We stayed in the Annex which was next to the main building. First impression was how warm, traditional and homely the hotel reception was and this was really the theme throughout. When we got to our rooms, they were smaller and more basic than I expected for a 3 star hotel but they were spotlessly clean and fit for the purpose of our stay. Ladies - Points to note; There are no tea and coffee making facilities, no ironing board & no hairdryer. The mirror was inside the wardrobe with the plug on the other side of the room - it was a challenge to use my hair straightners! The other thing was there are no phones in the rooms. The other thing I missed was a bath, especially after skiing...I am conscious that I sound a bit moany here, but I am just being blunt with the facts. Pool - There is a small pool at the hotel which was warm and great after skiing and the sauna was lovely too. For apres ski there is no bar in the hotel but plenty to choose from in the resort. Breakfast - simple & continental. Location - bottom of the town but everything is easy walking distance. 10-15 min walk to the Gondola. For us, the hotel served its pupose. The price was very reasonable, the location was okay and the rooms were clean. Taking everything into account, if you know what to expect and you are happy with what you are paying and you just want a bed for the night, this hotel is perfect.
Perfectly comfortable - neither luxurious nor rudimentary
My partner and I had booked the Hotel Obermair with Thomson Lakes and Mountains. I had read JollyJenny's review from Tripadvisor and had a good idea what to expect and therefore have nothing much more to add. Don't expect luxury but do expect pleasant, friendly and non-intrusive service, wonderful breakfasts (particularly the breads) and a good night's sleep. Take advantage of the free vouchers to the family's restaurant in the ZIllergrund and the advantageous location near to the bus and railway stations. One caveat: I was a little careless in checking my paperwork and thought I had half-board when I only had bed and breakfast. I upgraded to half-board (thank you Katie, the rep) and the food at the Kramerwirt is perfectly acceptable, but if returning I might prefer to have a choice of eating venues. I personally was quite happy with the pool which is fine for a twenty minute potter about. The facilities are really those of a good family home rather than a hotel but this is understandable when you find out how these hotels grow organically with the Tirolean families' evolution. There is a rather fun leisure pool only fifteen minutes walk away up town which you may gain discounted access to. In summary, the Obermair is a good base for those wishing to spend their holidays out and about but if you wish to spend a significant part of your holiday in your hotel you may be advised to go elsewhere.
Poor Service - Hotel Obermair
Hello Everyone. My name is Kelly and i have just returned from a 2 week stay in the Hotel Obermair in Mayrhofen. In General i thought the service received was very poor and let me go on to tell you why... Having arrived in Mayrhofen after a a long bus journey to the hotel (3 hours from Salzburg airport) my boyfriend and i were met by a man who seemingly runs the petrol station which is right next door to the hotel and it would seem that he owns the Hotel Obermair with his wife too. However, the greeting we received was not one of 'good will' and as such we were simply given our room key and told which room was going to be ours for the duration without little information on where things were located in the hotel or where breakfast is taken etc.. Having opened our room door, we soon realised that the size of the room was not going to be big enough for a whole 2 weeks duration so we soon moved into another room which was a little bigger (although in my opinion, there were plenty of bigger rooms in the hotel which werent being used for the whole 2 weeks, so why we were given the smallest room in the hotel to start with cieses to amaze me!) However on a better note, i cannot fault the cleanliness of the hotel as we were provided with fresh towels every day and the room was always cleaned to a very high standard. The service at breakfast however was very dissapointing. This is because as soon as you went down to the breakfast area, you could guarantee that there would be no tables free as they simply hadn't been cleared from the previous person, so a possible solution to that peoblem would be to employ more staff. The service in general at breakfast was very very slow and therefore overall i would rate this hotel as below satisfactory to anyone who may be thinking of going there... oh and another thing, it says in the Thomson Lakes and Mountains brochure that there is a sauna and steam room with extra charge for solarium. Let me warn you the steam room and sauna were not even switched on and the solarium, i didnt even see that!
Fabulous place to stay in Mayrhofen!!!!
I have just returned from a one week stay at this bed and breakfast hotel in beautiful Mayrhofen from the 20th to the 27th May. The travel brochure did not do this place justice and the description was quite misleading in some ways. This hotel is superb and I cannot recommend it highly enough. Owned and run by Herr and Frau Obermair, who have five young sons and work very hard throughout the year, this is an ideal base for families, couple and singles alike. The hotel is located on the edge of Mayrhofen adjacent to a petrol station also run by the family. It is an easy walk to the train station just across the road and you can watch the stream trains arrive from your balcony. Restaurants, coffee shops and bakeries are within three minutes walk and there are two good supermarkets, pharmacy and souvenir shops nearby for convenience. This little town has a great atmosphere and the locals are friendly and speak excellent English. Public transport is reliable too and there is no need to hire a car. The hotel is modest but welcoming and very homely. My room was tiny but spotlessly clean and had everything needed for a comfortable stay. Clean towels every day and good housekeeping made it a pleasure to return to the room after a busy day. The private bathroom was nicely tiled with a powerful shower and plenty of hot water at all times of the day and evening. I shared a balcony with two other rooms on the same floor and there were deck chairs, tables and attractive boxes of geraniums making it pleasant. All rooms have a mountain view and it was peaceful at night with no street noise to disturb my sleep. The bed was very comfortable and other guests also commented favourably about their beds and how well they slept there. A real highlight of my stay was the wonderful breakfast every morning!! The breakfast room is lovely and you can sit where you like and serve yourself from the generous buffet. Frau Obermair serves your tea, coffee or hot chocolate and she is delightful, always smiling and willing to chat in broken English which is so charming. I loved her. Breakfast is served from 7am to 10am and the buffet is frequently replenished: boiled eggs, assorted hams and sliced sausage, various cheeses, fresh fruits including pineapple, melon and plentiful strawberries, yogurt, cereals, jugs of milk, real butter, honey, fruits preserves and many types of bread. Your table is laid attractively with elegant crockery, silverware and a basket of crusty bread rolls. Coffee and tea is brought to you in a silver pot on a tray so nicely. The hotel has a great swimming pool heated to a lovely warm temperature and there is a sauna and shower. This is located in the main hotel building next to the breakfast room and reached by stairs via the basement. Go down and have a look at the great facilities and storage down there for winter sports equipment, drying rooms etc. The hotel is made of two buildings side by side: as you approach from the street the front facing building is called the annexe. It is traditional chalet style with it's own front door. Pass that and you reach the main hotel building with reception just inside the entrance. There is a garden with seating, children's swings and pet bunnies are frequently on the loose!! Not to be missed is the free weekly excursion from the hotel to the Adler Blick restaurant perched high in the mountains which is also owned and run by the family. The scenery is amazing and there are plenty of fabulous walks plus the huge dam and reservoir which has to be seen from the restaurant terrace. You go there by mini bus which takes 45 minutes and the drive is a treat in itself. Apart from that, Mayrhofen is a walker's paradise and you can jump on the local bus to the Hintertux glacier, travel by steam train along the Ziller valley or simply soak up the friendliness of the place with a traditonal slice of cake in the main street - the bakery painted pink is highly recommended. For an unforgettable holiday I would warmly encourage anyone to try a week at the Hotel Obermair and you will not regret it.
