just got back from york stayed at the minster hotel, location was excellant, easy to find and the secure parking was an advantage as we travelled on motorbikes. check in was quick and pleasant, we were took to our rooms which were up in the attic. The rooms were very small nothing like what we saw on the photos on the internet, the heating did not work(which was really bad as it was a very cold weekend),the television froze every 5 seconds so was unwatchable, the trouser press didn't work and the telephone didnt work, reported all this to... more

The staff were extremely friendly and polite and the breakfast was great. The location of this hotel is ideal for all the attractions York has to offer. The rooms were of a good standard with plenty of room in them. The only criticism I have is that there were no glasses in the bathroom and I had to use a teacup to have some water. I would use this hotel again when I visit York.

From what I understand this hotel has very recently been taken over and what a relief – if I’d have thought to look on TripAdvisor prior to staying I don’t think we would have booked! BUT we’re actually pleased we did! It’s still in the early stages of the renovations but already it sounds like (from previous February reviews) that standards have improved. We stayed for one night whilst passing through the great city of York and for location, parking and a friendly service we couldn’t fault it. The rooms may need updating... more
New Owners at Minster Hotel from yorkaddicts
Having previously stayed at this Hotel, what a pleasant suprise to find that new owners have taken over. Our room was clean and comfortable and we enjoyed a superb breakfast. We stayed in a quiet room at the back of the hotel so we were not disturbed by the builders who have started to renovate the Hotel. We love the location of this hotel, just 5 minutes walk from the Minster and free parking. The service was warm and friendly at breakfast and we enjoyed a quiet drink in the evening in the bar before we went out for dinner into York.... more

Stayed at The Minster last week and it really wasn't that bad. Fantastic location, just two minutes walk into centre. On site parking always a plus when staying in any city. Received a warm welcome when checking in. Bedroom itself although definately not the Ritz was clean and fine for a base to visit York. There are builders on site so it looks as though the new owners are investing in this hotel, which to be honest needs a bit of TLC but overall could be a fantastic place.
