My mother & father, my 15-year-old daughter and her friend and I visited the Royal Star for 2 weeks, all-inclusive. We had originally booked into the Royal Beach but at the last minute were told we had to stay in the Royal Star.

We found the Star an absolutely great place, there was a great selection of food, all day long, and the entertainment was a bit rough on 3 out of 7 nights. The only down side was being on an extremely busy road (more like a dual carriageway) and also the police station being opposite, with the constant sound of sirens all day and into the night.

Also whilst we were there they had a large party of young Germans in, who constantly played in the swimming pool until 3 and 4am in the morning keeping everyone in the bedrooms facing the pool awake. Other than that it was an excellent clean & friendly hotel to stay.

Well, Airtours changed our flights from early evening outbound to late night outbound, and from late evening return to early morning return. Needless to say, with an 18 month old baby, and complaints to Airtours, they didn’t even have the decency to arrange with the hotel for us to keep our room. We were told that they don’t do goodwill gestures as otherwise they would be out of pocket. Alarm bells started ringing from then on!!

Flight was nothing special, and when we got to Girona Airport, we were loaded on the coach. Our stop was last, but eventually arrived at the hotel bleary eyed. Got to the room, was promised a pool view. View was not of pool but of empty hole in the ground. There was no warning of this when we checked in. Other pool very busy so we stayed away from there. Room adequate and maid very good, but bathroom layout very poor. Bidet was right behind the door and sink was in the way.

Food was OK but nothing special, certainly not up to the standard I would expect at a price of £1000 for two people for two weeks!! Staff were all very friendly and could not fault one of them.

Went to Part Aventura - over-rated is an understatement - not very big - round about the size of Blackpool Pleasure Beach. Maybe a little bigger.

There is a little restaurant across the road from the hotel which was lovely and quiet. Not very expensive either. Decided to go to dinner in the Top Hotel Royal Beach for one night. Stayed there five minutes and came back as food was non-recognisable!

Only other problem I found with the Hotel itself was the sofas in reception are dangerous. I found my daughter was playing with a long nail hanging off the side of one of them!!

Airtours as a company are atrocious. On the notice board, our pick up time was scheduled for 00.30am. We were sitting in reception when the rep came from the coach to pick us up an hour early. I queried this and she said that it had always been a 23.30 pickup time. Considering we had been there for a fortnight and seen the rep on several occasions, she hadn’t bothered to tell us about the so-called change. When we had picked up more guests we drove back past the hotel at guess which time - 00.30!

Basically, Airtours could have picked up the other guests first, then come back to the Royal Star as the last stop. But no. Let’s inconvenience everybody and make unnecessary trips for people in the middle of the night, just before a flight, with a baby, on a hilly road, for over an hour. Yes, they’ll enjoy that.

Airtours wouldn’t be able to organise a toilet trip, never mind a holiday. Airtours? I'd rather have a 2 week stay in a war-zone!

Two words can describe the royal star hotel. Absolute s***e.

A friend and me went there for a week to celebrate my 18th birthday. Much of which was spent on the toilet thanks to the food.

Because we didn’t pay much money we didn’t expect alot, however we did not expect the hotel to be as bad as it was. Getting to the hotel was an absolute farce. We had to wait 2 hours for a coach, once we got there we instantly realised the recreational facilities were terrible. At nighttime the entertainment was appalling to say the least we spent our nights going to another hotel, The Casino, where the entertainment was reasonable then heading into the town.

At night the town was great with plenty of clubs unfortunately full of Spanish who after half a glass of sangria are on their deathbeds. Most clubs will treat the English like kings and you will think this is great until they charge you prices similar to back home for a drink, because there was such a choice of clubs/pubs to go to this didn’t matter so much. The main problem was during the day when there was absolutely nothing to do and the reps were nowhere to be seen, the only time we saw a rep was on the way home.

The only thing to do during the day was to get sloshed in the hotel, the food in the hotel was cold at the best of times and the hot dogs were uncooked we spent most of our holiday on the toilet. 4 days after we had got home my friend was still feeling the effects and is regularly throwing up, if you have any common sense do not stay at the Royal star hotel.

This hotel is appalling. A large group of friends stayed here on an all inclusive basis a get together for a birthday party and it was a nightmare.

The food was disgusting, the staff were very ignorant and rude and the entertainment was terrible.

The all inclusive bar closes at 12.00 however they do serve until 12.40 but the staff seem to think that they can literally throw people out before 12.40.

I would not recommend this hotel to anyone please think very carefully before booking.

the hotel is about 15 minutes walk from the beach! it is very noisy particularly at night! the food is ok’ish but you have to serve yourself and when busy it is difficult to get to and fro. the entertainment is limited. the drinks are cheap but note cocktails are not included in the happy hour prices! the hotel rooms are kept clean but there are few trimmings. my advice is to hire a car and venture out to see further a field than Lloret. at this time of year many things are closed but if you can get a cheap deal it makes a good break. just remember to take some earplugs.

We have just come back from here. Had a cracking two week break, ok the entertainment could be improved, but lets face it your in Spain. We thought the food was fine there was always something available to please most people. I had three kids, they were more than happy. It is a family resort so if you do get sold a holiday by your operator that advertises it for 21's forget it, there’s not a lot for you lot to do. We booked our main family holiday and were more than pleased with the extra friend reception staff, the always busy cleaner and can’t do enough to help you entertainers (this does by no means mean the dodgy disco).

In all no real complaints just what we all needed-come on the weather was a lot better, than here!

Decided to book a cheap weekend girlie break and this seemed like a good deal. Had been to Lloret back in 1990, so knew there were plenty of bars etc. Hadn’t expected it to be exactly like it was 14 years ago!

The hotel itself is really pushing it to be classed as 4 star. Room was ok, except for the view of another wall from our balcony but wasn’t too bothered as we were only stopping for 3 nights. Satellite TV on offer in the rooms is a bit of a con as the only English speaking channel was BBC World! At least the cleaners did their bit and kept it nice and clean, fresh towels every day etc.

Really tried to make the most of being all-inclusive, but there’s only so much you can take of having the same meals over and over. Lived on a diet of chips and ice cream as they looked fairly safe, so had to resort in going for a Chinese to get something nice!

Stayed in the bar area until midnight to make the most of it but had to endure the awful entertainment in the process. I never ever thought I’d be listening to the likes of Agadoo, Music Man, Hokey Cokey etc on holiday but we got that every night, complete with bad karaoke and some dodgy ‘Brazilian’ dancers? Escaped it at 12 to the nightlife of Lloret to discover the awful ‘discotheques’ - didn’t think they called them that anymore, and they were still the same ones as in 1990! Bit quiet in October but the weather was still good.

This place is great if you like a tacky Butlins style holiday, but if you’re under 30 - stick to the like of Tenerife etc.

APPALLING!!!!!

I am truly astounded that people are giving this hotel any credit!!! all I can say is that I dread to think what a 2 star hotel is like within this hotel chain!

My partner and I actually joked that this was our hotel as we pulled up in the coach, suddenly our worst fears were realised, dirty and in a time warp, reception staff were appalling, no customer service what so.

Our basic room had an exceptional view of a major busy road and police station, to top that off we had the lovely drone of the cabaret singer directly below.

Immediately asked to move , the lady replied that there was nothing she could do!! Astounded.

The rep arrived on Sat morning and we immediately asked him to move us, the lovely Noah from discount holidays told us that this was the best hotel in the Island, stood in disbelief, (Noah, Noah nothing) as he became known to my partner and I, was an absolute joke, very unprofessional and couldn’t care less.

I can truly say that there is not one thing I can say is nice about this hotel, not even a nice view!!!

Although we did eventually get moved 4 days into our seven day holiday we were so drained of trying to get through to our holiday company and hotel staff, that we really did not relax and enjoy or remaining days.

So disappointed that we worked all those hours to stay in a dirty butlins camp, we will never go back there and certainly never travel with DISCOUNT HOLIDAYS again.

Don’t say no one warned you!!!!!

I just got back from Costa Brava today. I really enjoyed the hotel and definitely would like to go again. In the day their isn’t much entertainment but we still managed to have fun. I made good friends with the bar staff. They are very friendly and always make you laugh.

The food was basic but nice. There was quite a selection and the dinner area was quite big. The two pools look small but when you’re in them they are big and they are very popular to everyone that is staying at the hotel. Up on one of the outside floors of the hotel there is a kiddies pool and a little play park.

Inside the hotel there are lounge areas, snack bar, two poolside bars, games room, sauna, gym etc. I enjoyed my stay at the hotel a lot; there is plenty of room and very easy access to the centre of Lloret de Mar.

This hotel is rated as a 4 star property and in my opinion is nowhere near.

The food is appalling. Every meal was very nearly the same every day and whatever was left over was heated up and served as snacks later. I paid for an all-inclusive holiday and ended up having to eat out as I couldn’t eat the food.

There are 2 outdoor pools at the hotel, both of which were very tiny and the loungers are put so tight together you can hardly move and there was not a parasol to be seen and the worst of all there was no lifeguards at any pool.

When you came out of the front door of the hotel you are straight onto a main road, no footpath just road.

The room I got looked onto a brick wall, which was about 1 metre away from my small balcony. When I asked to be moved the lady at the reception was very unhelpful and sullen.

Just a word of warning for disabled, the hotels states to be disabled friendly and is certainly not in my opinion.

I personally would not recommend this holiday to anyone.

Just back from our holiday in Lloret de Mar where we stayed at the Hotel Royal Star.

The Royal Star is situated mid way between the main area of Lloret and the area called fennals. It is within easy walking distance of both resort beaches. The only real problem with the location is that the hotel is situated right on a very busy main road, which has a high volume of traffic 24 hours a day.

The reception area of the hotel is very clean and the most attractive area of the hotel. The staff will deal with most problems you have, but can be a little sharp with their replies. There was one English lady who worked on reception she had a very pleasant manner but this is not the norm.

The rooms are the standard size you would get in any hotel. As there was only my wife and myself we had plenty of room. We were aware of several families of 4 in the same size of room that only fills me with dread the thought of them trying to move about. The rooms were cleaned on a daily basis and the towels were also changed daily.

Dining room.

This is a site to behold, memories of my holidays at Butlins as a child came flooding back as I entered the dinning room on my first night. This is a large hotel with many mouths to feed so if your looking for a quite romantic dinner then this place is certainly not for you. I found it quite uncomfortable to sit in the dining room for any length of time, as the noise and the general commotion was unbearable at times. The food was ok but there really was not much variety or imagination put into the menus.

The bar areas were clean and quite large, but get ready to queue up for your drinks. The biggest fault I had with the hotel was with the staff in the bar areas. I can count on one hand the number of times the staff in these areas said please or thank you to me in the 14 days I stayed in the Royal Star, on some occasions they were down right rude which in my book is totally unacceptable.

The entertainment is held nightly in the main bar area and I can say was really not that great, but they have a kids club and the staff worked very hard to keep the kids amused.

There are 3 main pools and one very small kids pool. Two of the main pools are outside, and one indoors. The small kids pool is in the kids play area at the back of the hotel "next to the graveyard". The two outdoor pools are very small considering the size of the hotel. There is quite a lot of sunbeds but as normal you have to be up at 4.30am to get your towel down.

The beds are pretty close together so it won’t help if you’re shy, as you’re crammed in like sardines, in a tin. The indoor pool is quite warm and never really gets that busy. There is also a spa area at the indoor pool and a very small gym area next door.

We did really enjoy our holiday in Lloret and the Royal Star was ok, but just remember if you think the hotel is rubbish then at least the weather is always better than back home.

THIS IS THE WORST HOTEL I HAVE EVER STAYED IN!

Royal Star Hotel what can I say I have never in all my life been so disappointed in a hotel.

This was the first holiday that I had been on with my boyfriend, what we wanted was a relaxing holiday away from the stress of work what we got was very different.

When we first arrived we were shocked at how close the hotel was to the main road. The reception area looked nice and quite tidy, as it was quite late when we arrived we went straight to the room, which was clean and looked quite nice and went to bed.

That evening around 1am the noise was unbearable why we bothered going to bed was beyond me.

When we opened the balcony curtains to see the view what we saw was a little disturbing to the right of us was the grave yard and straight ahead was a dirt hill which lead up to the grave yard, not really something you wish to see whilst on holiday.

The pools were small the sun lounges were very tightly packed together and there was NO LIFEGUARDS ON DUTY. When we went to use the indoor pool it smelt more like a dirty fish tank and there was mould on the artificial rocks.

The bar area had tiled flooring and was always wet where children had been running indoors dripping wet and then running back outdoors. On an evening the entertainment was a joke they played the same CD over and over again. The floor was very sticky and always wet where drinks had been spilt and nobody had bothered to mop up. Whilst in the bar one evening I slipped hurting my ankle. The bar staff found it quite amusing as u can imagine I didn’t.

The maids for the first few days seamed fine until one day when we arrived back after being out all day to find that our room door had been left open and balcony door left open as u can imaging me were horrified. This didn’t just happen the once but another 2 times.

Now onto the worst part of the hotel the FOOD, although how anyone can call that food it was slop the food wasn’t cooked the bread was stale. At dinner if pork was served the leftovers were chopped up and mixed into the peas with the next meal on an evening or even the next day. One day paella was served I was quite hopeful with this as it is a Spanish dish but I was disappointed you couldn’t get a scoop of paella it would have been easier to slice. The eggs at breakfast smelt funny and most of the food was fried. There was NO fresh food at all over the whole week. We spent most of our spending money on eating out. Be sure to pack plenty of diacalm !

This was the noisiest hotel I have ever stayed in out of the whole holiday we never got a good nights sleep

I will never visit loret de mar again I was very disappointed with this holiday.

My partner, two children (aged 8 and 10), and myself have just spent 7 days all-inclusive. This being my first time abroad, I was holding a critical eye over what I was expecting. The first impression I had was the reception, which was kept clean and there were always cleaners to be seen. The room we had wasn’t very big, but that was its only fault.

The dinner hall was well maintained and there was plenty to choose from even if it was basic. I overheard a few people moan about the food but you can’t please everyone. The bar areas were good and what made it was the fact that the staff treated the children the same as the adults when serving, this was also helped by having a queuing system and not a free for all which I had expected. I found the swimming pool area quite deceptive, at first glance it looked claustrophobic but once we had settled down for some sun bathing, there was plenty of room for everyone. Our youngest was ill on our third night and we had to call a doctor out, again the staff were helpful and we didn’t have to wait long, but it did cost us 75 euros.

We had to complain one night about our neighbours who we felt were taking blatant liberties for the time of night, the staff acted promptly and seem to be quite strict when it comes to noise making. The beach is only a 10 min walk from the hotel, with a couple of Spanish main roads to deal with.

The only real downside, I would have to say is the indoor swimming pool, which was very humid and had a really funny smell to it, and most people tended to stay away from it. So all in all a good break for what we paid, clean rooms, decent food, pretty good pools (outdoor) and friendly staff.

Just got back from the Royal Star Hotel, it is the nicest of the three hotels, the others are the Royal Beach and The Gran Hotel Royal Casino, where you can also use your all inclusive cards.

The hotel is big and spacious, the rooms couldn’t be nicer, and very clean. Cleaner comes every day and towels are replaced when needed.

The food was not brill but ok, always found something to eat, did not eat out at all. Drinks were ok too, maybe a bit watered down, but it stops you getting too drunk when you drink all day and night.

The only problem we had was the weather, not so good. And with going early in the year, not everything was open. Bit like Blackpool in the winter. But by the end of our week, you could see the place getting busier, and the shops were stocking up for the Easter rush, I would not go at this time of year again, but would go later, though I expect it would be a very busy hotel in the summer lots of kids, running round I don’t mind as I’ve got a four year old and the more friends for him to play with the better.

There were a lot of OAP’s staying at hotel, but at nighttime there are two bars, with one that’s quieter, more for the OAP’s e.g. Ballroom dancing and organ music if that is your thing. And the other room is for the kids to run round and have a kids disco, same songs every night in same order. Your kids can sing German songs by the end of the week, well my four year old can.

If you are going to hire a car, book one before you go. Hertz car was 112 pound for the full week. Easy to find hotel, get on the road that says Barcelona 11, once you get out of airport and then follow signs for Lloret de Mar, soon as you get into Lloret de mar , the Royal Star is the first hotel on the left, just park outside the hotel or opposite, it is about 40 euros to hotel from airport, and some people had to wait over an hour for a taxi, because Gerona is only a small airport, and there is no taxis waiting for pick ups outside.

We hired a brand new Renault Clio, ok if there are only three of you in car, because one case had to go on back seat, one case and buggy in boot, they were very big cases though.

I would go back to this hotel, we only paid 150 pounds each in March and we drank more than that in beer. A cheap and cheerful holiday, just a shame about the weather. Looking forward now to Turkey in June.
