Had read all the reviews before going to the Royal Star and I must say that they are all correct. The hotel is nice, clean and rooms are ok if there are only two adults and one child (under 11) Rooms cleaned everyday and towels changed.
The pool is OK a little small for the hotel but there is another pool but not used very much as it is shaded all day. The pool side does get very slippy and dirty (I never saw anyone cleaning the poolside or maintaining the pool).
The food and the rude staff are the real downside of this hotel. The food is very repetitive and tasteless. The bar staff never smile and the older staff are very miserable with it. The reception and entertainment staff are very courteous and helpful.
There is allot of hotel noise, doors slamming and children running up and down the corridor but on the whole after 12am the noise level does drop. We were on the fourth floor (rm 417) which was one of the quietest rooms.
Lloret itself is lovely but it is very nosey and crowded with young people from about 10.30pm onwards.
All I would say is if you have booked this hotel take enough money with you to eat out now and then as you will need too and don’t expect a smile from the barman!!

I have just arrived home from this hotel today and I felt I must do my civic duty and warn others of the pros and cons of this hotel.
I arrived for 1 weeks holiday, with my husband and 2 children on the 11th July. I had read some reviews and overall they seemed to give the hotel a reasonable average.
But for what it's worth here's my views.
Upon entering this hotel I immediately thought it badly needed some modernisation - somewhat stuck in an 80's time warp!
However, checked in by a rude receptionist and went up to the room hoping for the best.
I would say the hotel rooms are clean but very, very small. With 2 children aged 11 and 12 years, we had paid adult prices for them both but we were met with a tiny room with 2 single beds and 2 pull out beds. When the beds are placed in the room - 4 in a row there is next to no space!
The rooms are cleaned daily but contrary to what some people have said the sheets are not changed daily, the beds are simply remade but yes, fresh towels every day.
The staff at no point went out their way to be nice or polite and I can assure you I am both and would have appreciated a courteous 'ola!' back, as I always make an effort to speak some of the language.
I simply came to the conclusion that if you are All Inclusive, the staff do not see any reason to make any effort as a tip is less likely.
We were in room 309 and found it reasonably quite, after 12.30pm as the bar area closes at 12pm.
The pool is very small and is not maintained or cleaned to a high standard at all.
The entertainment team were friendly and made an effort but the poolside games were at times laughable - throwing a ball into a cup etc!
If my children had not met friends they would have certainly been bored rigid throughout the day!
I agree with the comments on the food and from now on I will definitely not be going all inclusive- it is simply not worth it. After the 3rd day we physically could not face eating from the dining room any more and ate only our breakfast- toast.
There are some nice restraints across the road and they were all nice and reasonable too (but I must say I did begrudge this, as we went all inclusive thinking we could save money when we were there).
The shops are good but my advice would be haggle for everything - we constantly got original prices halved and more.
I could go on and on but…
Overall if a hotel that is quite central, with small but clean rooms, ignorant staff, bland food and dirty pools is your thing then this is the hotel for you - if not I would honestly give this hotel a miss!
Please note: not British interpretation of a 4* - over here it would be classed as a 2*!

We have been going to this hotel with our 4 children for 9 years and found it to be clean and the staff polite.
The pool I will say can get crowded. The food is excellent no one has been ill so those people that say they had a bad tummy should try to eat in the hotel not outside! And to those people who say the entertainment for kids is the same song each night well do how do you expect the kids to learn them?
We all enjoy our stay here the town is safe on a night the kids go out for ice-cream at 12.30 never any problems the town is very close and so is the beach well worth a visit.

The hotel and rooms were very clean. The staff were on the whole rather rude but they did have a lot to put up with because of the drunken loud mouthed English. The food was not up to a 4 star quality, it was reasonable but was warm rather than hot. You could get something to eat all day if you wanted to.
We saw a rep only on arrival and day before departure (when he was greeting new guests) Be aware when booking trip to the Football Stadium. We were told by the rep that we would get the full tour of the dressing rooms, get to go onto the side of the pitch etc. this is what we paid for - however - when we got there after two and a half hour drive (we were told it was just an hour) we found out that we had booked a one hour museum only trip. The full tour goes on a Monday the cheap trip goes Friday. Surely the rep knew this.
If you are unlucky enough to have a room overlooking the pool, do not expect any sleep until all the drunks have been made to leave at one a.m.
The entertainment was of a very poor quality. There was a kiddies disco every night but after two nights you knew exactly which four songs would be played every following night. The half hour boat bus from Lloret to Tossa de mar is well worth doing. Lovely sail along the coast.
A trip to Barcelona is well worth a day out. The Magic Fountains are well worth seeing but do be aware of pick-pockets.
On the whole it was a cheap weeks holiday but certainly not up to 4 Star standard.

Arriving at the hotel we realised we were in the same hotel we went to 8 years ago and it had changed name. The hotel had a nice reception area and was very clean. We got to our room and went onto the balcony and looking out noticed there was no water in the pool, there was loungers with tape tied round about them to stop anyone from falling in the pool as it was approx 12ft deep, we couldn't let our kids anywhere near this as they are only 5 years and 3 years, we complained about this but they were unable to move us to a different hotel room. This problem was rectified on the 10th day of our holiday so we only had 4 days left to take advantage of the pool overlooking our hotel room.
The first night we went down for dinner and the food was disgusting, the only thing we could honestly eat was salad and there wasn't even a great choice of that, the kids were only eating a little salad and some chips, we eat healthy dinners at home and I wasn't prepared to eat like this every night. There wasn't much of a selection of anything and what we did try got put in the bin because it was revolting, we tried spare ribs one night and they had no meat on them and I seen other people spitting out whatever meat they got off them. There was T Bone steak on the menu and it looked OK I took 3 small pieces and I never got an ounce of meat, it was all fat.
For The All Inclusive facility they had the restaurant cordoned off with a snack area, it was the same food for this every day, whatever was left over from breakfast, lunch and dinner got put into the snack area, they put on burgers which were undercooked, the only thing we ate was the cold meat and we got fed up with that, you couldn't even get a drink in the snack area, you had to go upstairs to the bar to get a drink and bring it down, if you wanted coffee and a biscuit you had to go upstairs for your coffee and downstairs for a biscuit.
The all inclusive facility on this holiday was just a joke after the 3rd day we never took advantage of it and ate out probably about 70% of our holiday. This wasted our holiday it would have been better if we had been room only as the food was atrocious. When we got back we complained to My Travel and we eventually got a voucher for £368. In the 2006 Travel Brochure they say there wasn't enough feedback from customers to give the hotel a rating. Every person we met in the hotel was complaining about the food and to be quite honest I wouldn't give it 2 out of 10.

The hotel itself I personally couldn't fault, it was very spacious and very, very clean with maid service 7 days a week. We arrived on a Tuesday and by the Thursday my partner had decided he was no longer going to eat in the hotel as it was very repetitive (always 2 meats, salad and rice or pasta). Because we were all-inclusive I wanted to make the most of it and ate breakfast and dinner there then went across the road for my tea.
You MUST visit the Hungry Horse directly across from the hotel, it's open 9am - 3am and is run by the nicest Spanish couple you will ever meet (the chief is English). You are treated like royalty there with complimentary garlic bread and crisp (also as many English soaps and sport as you could want).
The first few days in the hotel the entertainment was poor, and as the hotel was packed with Germans and French you couldn't make proper conversation. Towards the end of the week more English came over and the place livened up.
Two great pubs to go to: The Irish bar (although hardly any Irish music) and The Robin Hood.
Weather was great and like I said the hotel is huge and spotless - just don't rely on the food there!

I went to Royal Star with my partner for 3 nights all inclusive.
The room was clean and spacious, and the terrace was large but shaded by 3 walls. The staff varied, ranging from polite and helpful to very rude.
Food is nothing to write home about. There was a varied choice and it was plentiful, however, it tended to be warm rather than hot.
The facilities provided within the hotel were good. Make use of the indoor pool, Jacuzzi and sauna. There are 3 bars, two of which are non smoking. All the bars serve a wide variety of drinks, don’t, however, rely on the entertainment to have fun.
I would definitely go back again. If you’re looking for a cheap getaway, the royal star is excellent value for money.

The hotel was fantastic, clean and an in a good area, there was not a lot to do in Lloret but the hotel is close too many shops and a relatively short bus ride to Barcelona City.
The staff were very helpful and there was descent food served most of the day. As an all inclusive holiday I could have as many drinks as I wanted by handing in my card I got when I was there. The evening entertainment is excellent.
The hotel furnishings and swimming pool area are of a very high quality. Overall this hotel lived up to it 4 star rating.

Food very drab although plentiful, accommodation basic and rooms had very little sound proofing and therefore you heard everything and more.
Staff had the patience of Saints considering all the drunk Brits drinking to excess with the' all inclusive clients'.
Overall noisy smoke filled public areas filled with drunk guests - not out of place on a yobs night out in any town in England - made me ashamed to be British sadly.
That famous old saying,' You get what you pay for'.
Never again.

Hotel booking was changed at the last minute due to building work, more like over booking.
The hotel rooms were quiet clean and cleaned daily but the rest of the hotel was very old looking bits of ceiling fell off when it rained which it did a lot.
The swimming pools were small an cramped with all the sunloungers held for other people with towels the staff were not very helpful and a bit rude, the locals were the same.
Wouldn’t go back if i was paid.

This hotel appeared to be very nice from the outside, that was before we tried sleeping on the first night! We had flown with Ryan-Air and for the first time ever arrived 45 minutes earlier than expected. Our pre-booked taxi was already waiting - a nice touch.
On arrival at the hotel we were efficiently dealt with and issued our ID cards so we could make use of the all-inclusive facilities. After dropping off the cases in our spacious room, (bedroom for the kids and a bedroom for us + bathroom) we headed off to the bar, just in time to witness a fight break out between drunken English men and women. Not a very good first impression. Upon returning to our room we discovered we were next to a pair of lifts, this has got to be the noisiest hotel we have ever stayed in.
We have slept in tents that had more sound-proofing! After a good 3 hours sleep we asked reception if there was any chance of a room change, obviously using the kids as an excuse. We were offered a room for 2 people and told they would put another 2 beds in for us.
If I had a cat with me I would have tried to swing it round the room it was that small. When we told the receptionist she shrugged and said all the rooms were like this and we would have to stay put.(good customer service skills) The hotel itself was well equipped with an indoor pool, Jacuzzi, gym, 3 bars (one adults only) self service buffet style food cooked by a chef with a sense of humour, hot dog sausage for breakfast?
The food was not as good as we were expecting and was very repetitive so much so that on New Years Eve for the gala meal, Hake was served despite been on the menu for lunch that day and dinner the day before. There was a kids club which seemed to go down well, but in general all or most of the staff seemed to have a general dislike of the English. They came across as very ignorant and rude. Lloret itself is a small but very interesting town with some nice walks and an imported beach.
My daughter loved the vast array of shops but i found them a bit samey-samey. The local bars were ok for tourists but when you ventured into the centre there seemed to be an anti-tourist vibe, and the shops seemed to be owned by the same family, all of whom were out to get as much money out of you as possible by selling you crap. (sounds like Blackpool, I know).
We enjoyed our holiday but wouldn't go back, especially in the summer, as there were far too many disco's. If it's that noisy out of season it must be absolute hell when it's busy.
We certainly would check the weather forecast before going there again, December is not a warm month in many countries but it's definitely not warm in Lloret! By the way we witnessed another fight between a group of pensioners arguing over chairs{Brits vs Belgians} and at 3am New Years Day there was a mass battle by all the English that were still standing on the dance floor.
God bless all-inclusive holidays!? At least they have banned smoking in all public areas.

The hotel was very clean (rooms cleaned and fresh towels etc. every day). There was a wide variety of food and plenty of it but it all tasted the same. The deserts were always ice cream and fruit and not a hot desert in sight (hot sponge and custard please). The family bars were excellent and the bar staff very friendly. The pools at the hotel were a bit too small for the hotel but fun all the same.
The resort is very good with loads of shops, bars and restaurants. The main problem was the beach. It was shingle and terrible to walk on barefoot. Also the sea was too rough for the kids to swim in.

To the people who gave this hotel 1/10 - are you sure you were staying at the same place??!! You must have stayed at some luxurious places if you rate this so low!!
Hotel is very clean, maids come in every day to make your bed, clean the bathroom and leave you fresh towels and we found all the staff to be friendly.
The food is really nice, always plenty of choice and there is something available all day. The selection caters for everyone and I find it hard to believe that there would be nothing people liked - I put on 3lbs in the week we were there so the hotel must be doing something right!!
The entertainment is the standard Spanish hotel scene - kids club to start off the evening followed by something for the whole family. If this does not appeal to you then the local bars are only a 5 minute walk away from the hotel.
I would definitely recommend this hotel, don’t let other reviews put you off!! I went there dreading it and was pleasantly surprised, it was nothing like the bad reviews on here.
Have a good holiday whoever is reading this!!

After reading other reviews I felt desperate and would have transferred our holiday destination if I could have afforded too, well why did I spoil my holiday build up and preparations?
The hotel was clean, fresh towels every day, bed changed every three days and made every day, bathroom cleaned everyday. the food was plentiful and cooked well enough, we found that many people pile every dish on one plate - don’t - take your time and enjoy four courses - the house wine was acceptable, we have paid £11 a bottle for worse. the children tried dishes and if they didn’t like it then they had another choice - you can't do that in a restaurant it's too expensive.
We walked around the town and looked at what was on offer - we had the best deal in Lloret. the staff are not always the happiest but then some of the clientele are not always that respectful to them so perhaps it's understandable.
Hotel entertainment - for young children the kids club looked fun - evening entertainment was hit and miss - the pool area can become quite crowded at certain times - we went to the beach then returned to the pool for an hour before dinner. There are three pools [ one inside ] medium sized.
Lloret - yak! lots of traffic, dirty looking discos and many souvenir shops all selling the same items. Didn’t find the old square as we were only staying a week. Fenals beach is a 10 min walk and beautiful. lots of boat excursions and the hotel offers other trips [pay separately]
We went to the water park - fantastic well worth 20 euros each - go early with a picnic [ ordered from the hotel the day before ] and spend the day, free bus, only down the road.
We must recommend the Mediaeval Evening [inclusive of food, drink and transport 10 euros each] wonderful!!!! Flamenco show included.
Overall we had our money’s worth and we enjoyed ourselves as you only get one holiday- we wouldn’t return but then the world is large and other places need to be visited.
ENJOY YOUR HOLIDAY!

Based on the reviews I read just before my departure to this hotel (which weren’t good), I was pleased with what I found. The food was excellent, plenty of choice and no stomach bugs - now that’s a first for me having visited Spain 5 times in total. The hotel was clean and staff were friendly.
This is an unusual shaped hotel, built on a hill so unless you don’t mind waiting on lifts get fit by walking up and down stairs regularly.
The indoor pool is in the basement with a Jacuzzi and a sauna and steam room (not a Turkish bath). Very handy to shelter children from the mid-day sun or on the odd rainy day.
Our room was situated at the back of the hotel which meant that we overlooked a cemetery but the plus side was that we weren’t disturbed by noise of course.
The entertainment runs until midnight so if you're at the front of the hotel don’t expect much sleep.
The busy road outside the hotel isn’t a problem but it's not pretty. In fact, Loret itself is a scruffy resort in need of a good face lift but the All Inclusive part meant that for 8 out of the ten nights we spent much of our time around the hotel.
Fenales beach - a 10 minute walk, is very nice and the sea was clean.
My compliments to the chefs and to the kids club people + Topi disco. The children weren’t bored at all.
I do recommend that the night shift security staff patrol the hotel though during the night and not to just rely on their security cameras. A door was banging until 4am this morning. I should have telephoned the staff - fair comment - but the security guys at reception were totally unaware of this at 7.45 a.m. this morning. I’ve since recovered from lack of sleep.
We paid £1700 + £200 extra spending = total £1900. Not bad for 10 nights for a family of 4, all inclusive in peak season.
Tip - remember to confirm your transfer the day before departure from hotel to Girona airport - if necessary as, if you don’t, you will be refused entry to the departure coach.
Also, the hotel should consider removing people’s towels from sunbeds if they’re not being used. It did get irritating when half the pool area was empty but you couldn’t find a single sunbed to sit on.
I overheard someone moaning about 'chips, chips and more chips'. I love chips but I only managed to eat one single chip at this hotel as the choice of healthy food was so good. Also, apart from the restaurant which smells of food, every part of the hotel smells of cigarettes - someone had even smoked in the gym -now even I wouldn’t do that!
The gym wasn’t really a gym. The aircon needs to be double strength and the equipment was of poor quality.....plus it stuck of cigarettes. I still went 3 times though then realised there were enough stairs in the hotel to keep me going.
All in all, a great holiday especially the food, drinks and kids clubs.
