Great Value for Money
I am currently writing this from the Royal Star hotel. When we first arrived, I was very wary of what we were going to end up with, as I ave read all of the reviews on this site about this hotel. When we arrived it was very early in the morning, and we had our photos taken for the itentity cards which entitled us to use all of the facilities. Food: Like the last review, I don´t understand where so many people complain about the food. They provide a varied selection and there is something different every day. Granted, the microwaves come in handy, but I have only ad to use it once so far, and that was for the french fries in the snack bar. People have to remember that the hotel caters for a number of nationalities, not only us Brits, so there has to be a varied menu. The view from our room (173) is that of a pool, but it is broken at the time of writing so it is empty. This works in our favour though as it means that it is a little bit quieter for our daughter, who is 18 months. Reception and bar staff are very friendly, as are the maids. Don´t pay hotel prices for water - turn right out of the hotel and on the next corner is a supermarket - Caprabo. Here you can find most products with a good selection. Dia Supermarkket is cheaper but further away. I have another week left of the stay. and I can safely say that we will be coming again in a couple of years.
What's the problem!??!
I have recently returned from the Royal Star (16/4 - 23/4) and found the Hotel excellent value for money. I seriously cannot believe how some people can complain about it so heavily? Myself and my girlfriend paid £209 for a week's All Inclusive, and it is the best £209 we have ever spent! Ok so it has it's bad sides with the occasional "luke warm" foods, but it is nothing to stress about. We had 5 lovely days of sun and we were able to drink by the pool on all those occasions. Every lunch and Dinner there was a large selection of Salad to choose from as well as fresh ripe fruit. The food isn't going to win any awards, but we had a good fill every day...for the money, they make it go a long way. If you had ANY worries about staying here I wouldn't, but everyone is entitled to their opinions (even if some have left me bewildered!).
You only get what you pay for
My wife and I plus our two Granchildren (aged 6&8 years) returned from this Hotel 16 April 2005. The Hotel we found to be spotlesly clean and the rooms well serviced. That, unfortunately was the only plus point. The rooms were very small and our four beds were joined together and had to be moved in order to get into the wardrobe. The Hotel was full with about 70% Brittish and 30% Spannish who were on bus tours. Breakfast in the morning was a solid quew, and if you wanted toast or tea allow atleast half an hour. The Juice machine used substitute juices and were not properly mixed. Once your turn came the food was really terrible. Cold and the fried eggs hard. The staff did not care whether lunch or dinner... You were only a number! We went down to The Royal Beach (a sister Hotel) and the diference in the food preparation and atmosphere was amazing. The head waiter having been there 26 yrs. The Ist night there was a fight in the corridor and on our last night several brawls. The indoor pool was good but busy and you had to pick your time to get in. The outside Pools (one closed) were too cold. All in all I conclude if you like to quew enjoy noise and crampted bedrooms this is the place for you. Frequent Scottish Traveller.
good all round hotel
myself,my wife jayne and our two teenage kids stayed at the royal star on a five night deal in feb 2005.We found the hotel staff to be friendly and helpful.Hotel was well set out with plenty of sofas to sit on in lobby etc.Food was of good quality and plenty of it.The bars were busy on a night but we never had to wait long to be served and we joined in the games with Paco the entertainment rep.We had a right laugh.we met a lot happy guests who have been there several times and have planned to meet up with them all next feb.We enjyed it so much that eight of us are returning on the 21st of june. Rooms were small with four people in,but who wants to spend the holiday in the room. So its a big thumbs up from us lot,go see for yourselves. It also rained every single day so we spent a lot of time in the hotel.
Fantastic Hotel
Occupation Me- Policeman, Wife- Nurse, Kids - Girl 9 yrs Boy 5 yrs. My family and I have just spent a great week at the Royal Star Hotel, Costa Brava. The hotel is truly a four star experience. HOTEL - Large, Clean, modern, well situated, well run, with all facilities. ROOM - Cleaned every day, Beds made, sheets and towels changed every day. Not a big room for four of us, but not cramped. STAFF - Excellent. Plentiful and happy. FOOD - Very Good. Lots of change in variety, all tasty and enjoyable. Well cooked and presented in resteraunt surroundings. POOL - Indoor shallow but quite warm. Kids enjoyed it every day of the stay. Two outside pools and a paddling pool, all looked nice but a bit cold for the time of year that we went. ALL INCLUSIVE - Fantastic. the hotel was FULL when we went, 21 Feb 05 to 28 Feb 05, even with this amount of people at this time of year there were never any queues at the bar and never any lack of fully qualified staff on hand to help. No fuss quick service and friendly faces. ENTERNAINMENT - Every afternoon and night in one or two of the three bar, Kids Clubs twice a day. DUTY FREE - buy what you want from the shops in Lloret De Mar. It is more expensive at the airport. RETURN AIRPORT - Getting through check-in is slow. Spanish Security staff at hand baggage check point incompetent, rude and slow. Half the people in the queue had to remove shoes belts socks etc, to stop the archway, they had to go through, from beeping. The tolerance on the machines are set to low and cause unnecessary problems. So what, when you get through, sit and laugh at everyone else stripping off to get out of Spain. Pitty, the only ---- off spaniards that we met.
Most aweful hotel in the world award!
visited 22nd oct 2004 It was described to me as a ‘Family and couples paradise, were everything is included’. The hotel H.Top Royal Star is rated as a 4 stars. It was also described to us as near to the beach. The person who sold the holiday to me, said he had visited the hotel himself and said it was excellent and we would love it there. the web site showed pictures of what looked like a very nice hotel. It transpired that this hotel is far from a ‘paradise’ and could not be described as ‘excellent’ and we most certainly did not ‘love it’. The photographs on the web site where I was told to look, failed to show the four lane dual carriage way where cars hurtled past day and night, that we had to cross on our long trek to the beach. They did not show the hotel restaurant that was akin to a roadside café in every respect, except that the food was not of high enough standard to be served in a road side café. The hot food can only be described as unrecognisably, cold and brown, totally unappetising and inedible. The salad was wilted and warm and cheeses were weeping so dreadfully I begged my daughter not to eat it. As we left the ‘restaurant’ the only things that were full were the bins that were having plates of uneaten food scraped into them next to our table. They could not show the atmosphere in the hotel that could be described as the terminus area of Liverpool Street train station, London. The services and facilities advertised described ‘entertainment’ for all; this consisted of, while we were there, an elderly gentleman on an organ in one bar and a group of German football supporters singing in another. The sauna advertised was not operational and nor was the steam room, the indoor pool (approx 15x10m) did not open until 10.30am nor did the gymnasium. The hotel can sleep four people in each of the 400 rooms, yet the two outside pools were small, one being approx 60x20 metres and there other half the size. You can work out whether they are very uncomfortable and inadequate. When we first given our rooms, it offered us views of a side ally where the bins were kept, a side wall view of a disused restaurant/hostel and waste land. The hotel kindly moved us to new rooms with a better view of the previously mentioned dual carriageway. The lifts in the hotel were on a snails pace, and since we were placed on the sixth floor they were our only reasonable option with one small child. As a consequence we sometimes waited for extended time for a lift service. On one occasion a member of staff wanted to use the lift we had waited 12 minutes for to transport towels in a shopping trolley, so he proceeded to physically barge my children and I out of the way and out of the entrance to the lift, so he did not have to wait for another. When we did not get out of the lift he prevented us from using the lift by continually pressing the lift button so the doors would not close. When I asked him to stop he laughed at me and when my partner asked him to step away from the button, the member of staff threatened my partner and tried to arrange a fight for 3.30pm out side the hotel. This was not yet 9am on our first morning. We found this hotel wholly unsatisfactory. and left immediatley.
A great lads town..bars bars bars
Just returned from a two week break at the Royal Star in Lloret de Mar(26/9/04).The hotel as 4 stars but do not think for a moment that you are staying in a 4 star hotel.Saying that it is clean, the staff are friendly and you are about 12mins walk from Lloret beach and 5mins from Fennels smaller beach. Unfortunatley the food is nothing to talk about but it is well cooked and plentyful. And now the entertainment, well what can I say apart from you might as well sit in your room and play eye spy.It is of the poorest quality.DIRE. The Royal Star as two outdoor pools which can get busy with children, even when there are no UK school breaks and one indoor pool.It as a sauna which as to be pre booked and faces the cemetry, honestly, and a basic gym. If you are planning to go to Barcelona DO NOT book it at the hotel.Take a 5min walk to the bus station in Lloret and buy a ticket for about 8 Euros. The price includes a short bus ride to the railway station and your train fare to Barcelona, return. You will save yourself a fortune and have time at your lesiure not the tour operators. Lloret is a busy resort with many bars and dicos. but very safe, but like anywere be cautious, especialy at night.Don't flash the cash.
lovely hotel, value for money.
Myself and my partner have just returned from the Royal Star on 2nd OCT 2004. We got a cheap A/I deal and were unsure what to expect. The hotel was superb, no complaints. Hotel very clean, food was what I would expect from a spanish buffet, it was fresh, warm and sufficient choice for any normal person, but yes we did hear people complain! (and saw them return for seconds!!!!). The hotel had 2 outdoor pools, an indoor pool, jacuzzi, spa and gym, which gave you a choice if the weather changed. The location was also good 5 min walk from lloret center and a couple of mins from fenals. To top it all the weather was great for the time of year. Just wish we had booked 2 weeks.
get it off teletext
very effeciant very clean, very good hotel childrens reps kids club 4 **** rateing very dubious, food plentiful, if not always a lot of choice. Hotel rooms comfortable but a little cramped with 4 in one room. Satalite tv provided only 2 news channels in english. Maid service and staff excellent. All inclusive drinks great, but do stop exactly on time. I would recommend this hotel for a cheap deal dont pay broucher price. DATES VISITED 2nd sept-9th sept 2004
i loved it
I am just back from a gr8 time at the Hotel Royal Star. I went with my boyfriend just for a quiet week away and i loved it. I cannot fault the cleanliness of the hotel room and the hotel at all. The staff were very friendly at the bar and reception. Both pools very clean and the indoor pool was lovely to cool down in after a nice sauna. Getting onto the food, well it being a 4 star hotel i wasnt impressed. Dont get me wrong there is always something to eat but its a bit repetitive after a while. Anyway i would recommend it to anyone and i would go back tomorrow if i could.
