Discourteous
2 / 10
Oct 2010, David

I am disable and required a little bit more consideration, however the reception staff treated me dicourteously. They treated me as if I was an inconvenience. They got annoyed about simple requests for a room near a lift which was a request made prior to my arrival.
The service at the dinning room bar was poor because I had to wait it a queue of 50 people to get a glass of water. Then I would have to join the back of the queue to get a beer, because they would nly serve one drink for one person at a time.
The spanish pensioners got better service from all of the staff. There was very little entertainment for non-spanish guests.
For £830 pounds I expected more.

Worst Holiday ever
2 / 10
Jun 2010, yorkshirelass

This is the worst holiday experience I have ever had!!!!!! The hotel food is abysmal - the bar staff are surly and too few, the outdoor pools are cold, fair enough but the heated indoor pool had to be shared with dead beetles.
There was at times a twenty five minute wait to be served 2 drinks at the bar, since there were 2 adults and 1 child in our party, it meant a 50 minute wait for drinks.
The food was dreadful and cleanliness questionable, one day someone cut their hand on a broken plate at the desert bar, the blood the ran down the side and was cleaned up with a serviette and the bar left open with just one tray of food removed.
The snack bar was extremely limited and did not vary from salad. cheese, hot dog or burger.
The drinks were awful and even the orange juice was watered down.
After the arrival of about 100 German students, the holiday went down hill, the noise was horrendous. They were partying when getting ready to go out between 11-12 and on their return between 3.30 and 4.30 am as well as banging on doors. The security guard resorted to using a loudhailer at 4.30 am to get them to go to their rooms and quieten down. We had very little sleep for 6 nights.
Whilst it may not sound too bad to you on reading this, try living it.
We did resort to eating out, and also paying for sunbeds on the beach, it was the only way to get some respite.
It may be a place to visit for hen-nights or partying but it is not a family hotel - do avoid

Good Points for the Hotel
.........................
Clean
Staff very good
Room very good
All inclusive

..........
Bad Points
..........
No Entertainment, got 1 Night with a local playing a electric keyboard.
Night entertainment for the kids was 20-30 mins disco.
Food was ok but very repetitive.
Our room was near the bar so didn't get any sleep until 2am most nights.
Walls very thin can hear everything!
Beach 10-15 mins away.
Full of French (who don't like queuing)
Overall hotel ok but don't know how this hotel is a 4 star and i wouldn't recommend this hotel. :(

Good!

Feb 2010, Ebz

After growing up being used to family holidays in a minimum of 4 star hotels, it is needless to say that I am a very fussy person.
I loved this hotel, it was fantastic. The staff were friendly and made us feel welcome. The little shop downstairs was great for those little things you need to pick up, and the snacks vending machine opposite the shop and the drinks vending machine were fantastic for those nights you wake up in need of a drink and the bar has shut! The hotel was modern, fun, friendly and the air con hits you as you walk into reception... perfect!
The staff were friendly and gave us loads of information on days out and where to catch the local bus from... taxis are super expensive over there.
I was quite disappointed with the food and often had snacks. Most of the time it was fish that was served, and as I dont like any sort of sea food my only options were chips or potatoes. However when there was something i did like, the food was delicious and can not be faulted.
The restaurant was beautiful and unique. What appeared to be large windows, were infact panels in the deep end of the pool. You could see the water, people diving in and often people swimming across. Although it was fairly funny, i was not that keen on the panels during the day, however on the night when the pool is lit up its beautiful.
The rooms were beautiful and the air con fantastic, got a perfect nights sleep!
As it was just my ex boyfriend and I,and I was only 17 at the time I was determined to pay for my holiday myself and was on quite a tight budget.
I was originally booked into the H.top Alexis hotel. This was the ultimate holiday from hell, i would not recommend this hotel for a dog. The alexis hotel is absolutly disgusting. I can not believe they are the same chain of hotels with such a HUGE difference. The Alexis was dirty, the food was cold, the same food served both day and night, the staff were rude, the hotel was falling apart, it was like something out of the 50's, situated on a hill, the bar was like an old film i.e full of smoke certainly not good if you suffer from asthma with old men smoking pipes and to top it all off they had left the windows open in the restaurant and when i came to the food it was covered in flys.
The air con in this hotel was awful, you had to stand on a chair with your hand over the vent to feel the tiniest draft, which the staff thought the air con was working fantastic. Only if you could not feel anything was the air con broken! I had no sleep for the 3 nights i was in the alexis hotel and on the fourth day it was either fly home or get moved to another hotel. My parents got us moved to the Royal star!
What a breath of fresh air! I am completly baffled as to why anyone could have slated this hotel!
Although the hotel was fantastic, it is not somewhere i would consider going back but not because of the hotel but because of the location. I love the beach and was devestated to find that every beach had no sand just rocks. You could not walk along the beach in sandals as the rocks got in and were very painful and could not walk along bare foot as it was even worse. I ended up cutting my feet to shreads! I picked up a magazine in our hotel and read there was a white sand beach nearby, it was about 20 mins away and the taxi fare was ridiculous! When we got there I thought we were in the wrong place however we were at the beach. I was devestated again to realise i had just spent about 20 euros in a taxi to find that their idea of a white beach was in fact just white rocks!
I wouldn't recommend Lloret De Mar if you like a holiday with a nice sandy beach as i didn't see a spot of sand all holiday! Beautiful hotel in the wrong location shame it's not somewhere else!

me and my boyfriend went to the Royal Star for my 21st birthday. we are not fussy people when it comes to hotels but this was awful. The hotel itself looks very pleasant from the reception area and the rooms are basic but comfortable. we requested a top floor room, but were on the 2nd floor instead. However we had babies either side of us, which couldnt be helped........but the walls are paper thin. u can hear every word being said very clearly. Also the cleaners are not very curtious early in the mornings, standing in the corridoors shouting to eachother. i got woken at 6am most mornings.
The food was AWFUL......if u like fish 7 days a week for lunch and dinner ul b fine. There was no variety at all an certainly nothing for children, they had chips one night out of 7. The meat was NEVER cooked properly and was rarely warm. They really do use left over food to make meals for the next day, it is blatently obvious.
Every night we ended up eating in the bar across the road called the Hungry Horse. There is an english chef there and the food is amazing. The staff are SO SO friendly in there an will cook for u anytime day or night. We also had to go to the staff here to ask for things to do in the area as the staff at the hotel were very rude and had no time for us at all!!! They are always miserable and make u feel like u are troubling them when asking for drinks at the bar.
The only positive about this hotel is the all inclusive drinks. there is a wide variety of drinks from beer, wine, vodka, whiskey, rum, schapps, malibu, baileys and more. obviously they are all spanish brands but taste almost the same.
The only part of the holiday me and my boyfriend enjoyed was eachothers company and can happily say WE'LL NEVER EVER BE GOING BACK TO ANY OF THE H TOP'S AGAIN!!!!!!!

This was by far the worst holiday we have ever had. The hotel was shabby and dated. The staff were often rude, the food was basic and the security non-existant. While we were there several loud and violent fights broke out. No security attended. We reported to the reception staff and asked why the security staff did not deal with it. We were told with a shrug of a shoulder that it is "a big hotel" One evening in an area packed full of children a young couple (who just happened to be a same sex couple) began kissing, fondling and behaving in a very sexually explicit manner. I did not wish for my children to see such behaviour and have complained about it. The response from HTOP was to basically accuse me of being homophobic and stupid to expect them to stop two people from kissing. It took a fellow hotel guest to ask them to remove themselves to a place of privacy. There were strong indicators that some of the guests were using illegal substances. By indicators I mean they were smoking roll up cigarettes that had an unusual smell, this coupled with the fact that the more they smoked the more bizarre their behaviour got. Whilst I appreciate that these people could not be accused of anything without proof, it was reasonable to expect that security staff would have the necessary skills to at least challenge them tactfully. Yet they “turned a blind eye” The rooms were uncomfortably cramped and the hotel in general was not, in our view, up to the standard of a 4 star establishment. When we asked to be relocated to a more peaceful and safe environment, nobody wanted to help. This was more of a torture than a holiday

I returned home from staying at the Royal Star hotel a month ago now. I went with my partner just for a week and we went all inclusive, which was something none of us had done before. The best part about the all inclusive was the free alcoholic drinks, as we are both drinkers we found this really beneficial. Especially as there were quite a large range of drinks to chose from including: baileys, vodka, peach shnapps, apple shnapps, malibu, wine, beer, and you were allowed the coctail of the day for free as well. All of these drinks were the cheap versions for example the vodka wasnt smirnoff but another good thing about the drinks was if u did want smirnoff vodka etc. u would have to pay a suppliment for it which wasnt alot atall.
The food was quite nice and we did like the fact they did snacks through the day at set times as we did miss a few meals due to going out for the day. Alot of the meals were the same but thats like any where you go in spain so that was expected. Bar staff were great they always knew what me and my partner were drinking that day before we had asked them, and they were very friendly and polite. Swimming pool was quite small but that did'nt really bother us as we went out most days anyway.
Location was good as we were not right in centre but just down the road so we didnt have to walk far and there was a beach about 10 minutes away too which is called the Fenals Beach that was nice as it was a quiet and relaxing beach:not too busy.
Rooms were spotless everyday from the cleaners and the hotel itself was clean too. The hotel is fairly big and after a few drinks i kept getting out of the lift onto the wrong floor as the pool was'nt on the ground floor but the one above it, but that did'nt bother me. Would definitly go back!!:):):)

i went to this hotel knowing what to expect has been to llorett with my fiends on lots of occasions, but all i wanted to be honest was a bed as did not plan to be in hotel much, however if you have children i would not reccomend llorett or this hotel as there is not really alot to do unles you want to sit on the beach all day and do nothing in the evenings and then you risk the children being bored as others were when i was there, they do have a little childrens disco but not many go .food in this hotel is hit and miss lots of people with bad stomacks.rooms very clean and they will go out of way to please you, drinks have been known to be watered down.
this is a place for stag and hen partys lots of clubs and bars if you are lookng for that sort of thing, great for the young so if you are young free and want a drunken holiday thats what you will get,if you are a couple as i was this tijme there are some great little bars in the back streets and cheep......good places to go are the texas bar, revolutions, mobys is ok if you like ther music on the day, queen vic got great atmosfear with large screen for footy.
beaches are man made but not bad sun loungers expensive .
