This hotel was great. The food was brilliant. Loads of it and good quality. Excellent breakfast bar (hot and cold food), Cakes and past from 3.30pm to 5pm, 4 course dinner. Alcoholic Drinks were reasonably priced too. All the staff are pleasant, and most were trying out... more

The staff at the Tauernhoff are fantastic and could not do enough to make our stay very enjoyable. The hotel is in my opinion the definition of perfection, with its heated ski boot racks, indoor pool and superb food and great views of the village and the glacier. It is... more

Excellent hotel. We were complete ski beginners and could not have picked a better location as the rear of the hotel looks directly onto the ski school area and beginners slopes. The ski school itself has lunch at the hotel. We stayed in a family suite, which was VERY... more

A good week
We arrived at the hotel to find they had just opened for the summer season. On arrival at 9pm, check in formalities were abbreviated as we were politely asked to make our way quickly to the dining room - as there were only three guests, including my wife and me, we didn't consider this to be an unreasonable request. Meals at the hotel were excellent - breakfast being a typical european buffet of cheese and cold meats, but of superior quality and choice to many hotels we have stayed in. Dinner was chosen from the menu the night before - always a choice of three mains; we were pleased with all of our chioices. On the second day of our stay, the occupancy of the hotel was significantly increased by the arrival of a large party of German guests; we generaslly see it as a plus if Europeans other than British are staying in a hotel as it indicates it doesn't cater for the lowest common denominator. Although there were few staff, they coped very well with the number of guests. The hotel is in a good location, close to shops and the bus stop, from where it is a ten minute ride to Zell am See in one direction or up to the Kitsteinhorn in the other. WiFi in the bar area is a plus; there was also a computer with internet acess (which we didn't use) so no problems keeping in touch. Swimming pool is small but ok for relaxing in. Kaprun was very quiet during our stay, but this was due it being early in the season.
satisfied
good room, good food, good view, good pool, good price
Good and not so good
We arrived late on a Saturday night not expecting the hotel to be still serving food but they kindly kept the restaurant open for us to eat which I thought was a nice gesture. Overall the hotel is very clean and the location is excellent, only 2 mins from the bus stop and right in front of the nursery slopes. A couple of things that let the hotel down was the price of drinks. £3.30 for half of lager is ridiculous and it was just as bad for the wine. 1/4 litre was £4.90. Normally when we go ski-ing we would spend our evenings in the hotel relaxing in the bar but the price of the drinks put us off that and we ended up making other arrangements!! Also, although the hotel serve cakes, soup and other items for the mid-afternoon coffee you are expected to pay for your own drinks inc tean and coffee which considering the prices put us off this as well. Please note that there are signs stating that the sauna's are nude. Now I'm not a prude but this was very off putting and certainly made me think twice of using the facilities. The pool is nice size and imaculate and you can get a robe and slippers from reception. (for a feee of 5 euros). The food was good with a nice choice of 3 main courses on a evening. I would return to this hotel if they reduced the price of the drinks as this was the main downfall to our stay.
nice skiing hotel
The hotel is located in the center of this little town, next to shopping area. Right in the back of the hotel is a ski-school and a small run for beginners. The hotel has a play room that the 10 and 13 yo children loved it. We had a spacious family room, but the bathroom was very small. Breakfast and dinner are very good, with plenty of food (we had HB). The ski-room was very well equipped.
Xmas at the Tauernhof
Our party of sixteen have recently returned from the Tauernhof. We had an excellent stay. Staff were friendly and very helpful. We were traveling with a nine month old baby and eighteen month old child and they were very well catered for. We recived a free room ugrade wirh travel cot and kettle for the room. Food was good simple and plentyful. Xmas Eve and Day was excellent. Drinks in the Hotel were on the expensive side. Snow conditions were very good even in the village. Access to oher ski areas such as the glacier and Zell was very easy as the Hotel is in the center of the village 200m from the bus stop with the nursery slope and Ski school at the back of the Hotel. Enterainment outside the hotel was good. Would go back there again.
Kitsh Kaprun
I have just returned from a week at the Tauernhof, Kaprun. The hotel is central to the town (which is very small). I stayed on a half-board basis; the food was fresh, of a good standard and lots of it!! The pool is well kept but small, along with a Spa including saunas and massage treatments. I had a junior suite which was a good size, but a little bit dusty. Overall the hotel was of a good standard, the staff were very helpful and pleasant. A great place to stay for a late ski break.
Staff are having a bad day!
The hotel is nice, rooms are of varing standards but are certainly adequate. Great boot room with heated racks and secure entry. Food is very good and plenty of choice. My only area of complaint is the staff they are a very miserable lot. Unhelpful to say the least. Our party of 20 people arrived and I can safely say I had the worst check in experience of my life. I was travelling with a 11 month old baby to be told there was no travel cot and she could be of no more help as it was not her fault. It may well not have been her fault (it was travel companies) but is it not her job to help me or at the least apologise and help find a solution? That rest of staff were as unhelpful unfriendly and pretty miserable for the rest of the week. i have travelled to Austria many times and have always found the staff to be extremely accommodating so this was dissapointing and I know the feeling was mutual within our group. Kaprun is a nice town, skiing limited although the glacier is only 10 mins by bus - skiing here is quite extensive and lots of restaurants etc. Zell am See is a beautiful town and not like any other ski town I have been to. There are lovely boutique coffee shops and great choice of shopping. The views are spectacular, the lake is stunning anytime of year would be great to visit. Great friendly family run restaurants on the mountain. Flannagins is a great night out we had a great time there on St Patricks night!!
Perfect for Everyone.
We stayed here for our ski trip at the start of Jan and couldn't be happier with the whole experience. The hotel itself is located right at the bottom of the nursery slopes so it was ideal for two of our friends who were complete beginners. The staff were very friendly and willing to help with everything, the breakfast was a buffet every morning which was lovely and well stocked with hot and cold items needed for a day on the slopes. In the afternoon there were apres ski snacks available as part of the stay and the evening meals were very tasty and well presented.Very clean facilities all round and loved the pool to relax in and sauna. There is a boot room too so you can lock your ski/board gear away for the night and the best bit is the room has boot heaters too so you will have toasty boots to put on every morning! Overall it's a fine choice for the town,it's only a short walk down to the Maiskogel run or you can use the regular ski buses (every 15mins) to hop up to the Glacier.
Great location for skiing!
Christmas/New Year 2007 We stayed here with another family over the Christmas/New Year period and had a lovely time. The staff were very friendly and welcoming and the hotel was spotless and comfortable. The only disappointing aspect was the lack of a comfortable lounge seating area and an open fire. The bar is fine to sit in but you are expected to buy drinks whilst you're there. The hotel brochure/website is a littlle misleading showing the hotel as if it is set on it's own. It is actually situated on the main street of Kaprun surrounded by shops and other hotels. It wasn't a problem for us but we thought it was a bit deceptive. The food is excellent as are all the facilities (pool, sauna etc). Skiing in the region is wonderful but there is not much to do for non skiers. All in all a good hotel and to be recommended.
Fantastic stay
We had a fantastic week at the hotel tauernhof. It is right in front of the nursery slopes which was ideal for me as a beginner, and a short bus ride up to the mountain for my partner who is an experienced skier. The food was excellent. Apres ski was provided and dinner was always enjoyable. The hotel is clean and well kept. The leisure facilities are small but good. We would especially recommend the massage! Really enjoyed our stay and would recommend it to anyone.
