dont go !!
Well first off my girlfriend and i booked one week all inclusive with sun4u.com two weeks before our departure date @ £250 each which we thought a good deal....mmmmmmm....... First off we were told when we finally found our hapless rep that we had to 'hang around' until at least two more flights had landed at girona airport, having been sent to the wrong coach we finally found the right one with no further help (or sighting for rest of our stay) from the rep. When we get to the caleta palace (22:50) at last the arm waving man on reception tells us that we have one more hour to have a drink as all inclusive guests. This however proved to be false as we were told by not so friendly bar staff that we could not as it is 23:00 closing for all inclusive and we would have to pay full price for anything consumed (no food available either) so that was our first night as we trotted off up to bed..... Morning came and as i quickly found out as i turned on the hot water taps thre was none. Ah i thought i will call reception using the room telephone (the kind you see in old episodes of kojak brrrring brrring) this i could not do as i now find it does not work! so off i go down to reception to report this," yes we know" came the reply . Turns out the whole hotel had none either, i am then informed that we will have to wait until 11:30 to 12:00 noon for hot water in the room. The next day as we found out on every other day , the bar is running out of thing like beer, vodka gin etc. it was pot luck if you got what you originally wanted, served by moody surly burly Alfredo with small rodent between top lip and nose (possibly hotel mascot) the rest of bar staff similar. Breakfast 08:00-10:00 lunch 13:00-14:30 Dinner 19:30-21:30 was a bit of a scrum as we later learned you had to get in quick as the food (not bad standard) was not kept warm just topped up with new on top of old by restaurant staff (more friendly than bar). The bar by the pool which looked like a hastily built shack and none too clean, was surrounded by dirty tables and and many hundreds of flies, which you can expect on the costa but cleaning the place up would surely help ( bet your'e expecting this to be signed V Meldrew). One evening in the restaurant as my girlfriend went upstairs ahead of me, i asked for a bottle of house white to take to our room, you guessed it i was not allowed to do this but was given no real reason other than no no no! Let me say it wasn't all doom and gloom as we made the most of it and really needed the break and laughed off much of it,The building itself was very nice with beautiful reception and super huge lounge with large sofa's to sink into, library of books left by previous guests to read when the rain came down. As said we never saw or heard from our rep again throuhout our stay,we assumed he got lost as that is how he looked. Ther is more i assure you but i think you get the gist (poor entertainment with woman twirling a scarf to music er i could do that!) but hey i wont go on any longer as its bringing me down again. I just want to say if you have read all of this i want to thank you for your patience, and advise you not to go as it will be tested to to max. Happy Holidays! Paule Gallie ( norfolk)
good have been better
sept 21st just returned from a 5day stey at calete palace 6of my family went .on arival they nhad no room for my hubby and myself after about 20mins of the secruity man checking rfooms he foud a room empty on the 5th floor.and was told to see the manager in the morning { this was 1 o clock in the morning } as it was it was a great view so i didnt bother to see the manager .but 3 days later we had a phone call of reception to see who was in that room they didnt even know we were in there .the location is brill .pool and bar area very nice except they have a problem with flies they were every where u would have 10 at a time on you .the poolbar staff should have lessons in how to clear away tables and wash them down ( they just let the tables pile up with cups plates cans bottoles crisp packets } in the end u would end up taken them back to the bar urself .the lifdegaurd would empty half empty cups of drinks down the drains around the pool .thats why we spent every day on the beach either that or get eaten alive b y the flies .but the beach was fab.the food was ok good vairety most mornings by 9 they had run out of bacon and bread then u would search the draws for cutlery.the staff were nice though. couldnt get our heads around the waY WHY YOU COULDNT GET A DRINK IN THE MAIN BAR IF U WERE ALL INCL u had to go to the pool bar [ THAT waS A BIT OF A PAIN THOUGH ] AS THE MAIN BAR ONLY HAD A FEW CUSTOMERS IN THERE THEN U GO DOWN THE POOLBAR AND IT WOULD BE 5 DEEP .I EVEN OFFERED TO PAY FOR A CUPPA NO I HAD TO GO TO POOL BAR THE 3 ROOMS WE HAD WERE ALL LOVERLY AND CLEAN AND BIG ENOUGH ITS A GREAT SHAME AS THIS HOTEL COULD HAVE IT ALL IF ONLY THEY COULD GET IT WRITE AND SORT OUT AND EXPLAIN TO THERE FRONT OF HOUSE STAFF WHAT ALL INCL MEANS AND THERE POOLSTAFF HOW TO KEEP THAT AREA CLEAN AND IM SURE THE FLY PROBLEM WOULD BE SOLVED . WE WOULD GO BACK BUT ONLY FOR 4 NITES 5DAYS BUT WHO KNOWS IF IT WAS SORTED MAYBE LONGER OH WELL HAPPY DAYS
Mixed Feelings
We arrived at the Caleta Palace at around lunchtime after an 80 mile drive from Barcelona airport, and our room was not ready until around 3.30pm, the room which we was given was very small so after several complaints we was moved into a larger room which was much more comfortable, although the balcony i felt was unsafe as the glass screens moved when touched, and our view for the week was of the dustbins which got emptied very noisely at approx 3am every morning! The food we found to be quite good, there was always salad, pasta dishes, potatoes, 2 or 3 main dishes and a constant supply being cooked on the griddles of fish, pork, and steaks, although the queues could become quite long for this along with the queues to get into the dining room in the first place! one thing to be aware of is the halogen lamps over the food, they are quite close to the food and its very easy to burn yourself on them as i found out! The hotel was clean and rooms were cleaned daily, clean towels were delivered everyday, the only area of the hotel we found to be dirty was the outside pool bar area and the area around the swimming pool. When we arrived we were told that we could only get our drinks from the outside pool bar and not the luxury bar within the actual hotel, we were told to sit in the pool area and not in the main area, this was quite a trek from the hotel and away from the so-called entertainment which we only had 2 nights out of the 7 and what we did have wasnt worth staying in for! A lady complained about the fact we had to go to the pool bar for our drinks and then mid week we were finally allowed to visit the main bar, they then closed the pool bar saying they were having techinal problems. There is no hairdressers, no wi-fi, no zen garden, no pool towels, no supermarket at this hotel and the entertainment programme may as well be discarded for the good it is, there are two pay as you go computers in the hotel reception, and car parking is charged at 11 euros a day it is not free if you are all -inclusive. On a more positive note we found some of the staf to be quite friendly, especially the night staff who were very helpful when i was taken poorly during the night. The hotel has the potential to be so much better than it is, I would not recommend anyone going all-inclusive here as the staff do not really understand what it means and you are made to feel uncomfortable and second class, We did enjoy our week here but would not return to this hotel as it wasnt all we hoped that it would be.
thought it was a great family place
I've read some of the reviews on this hotel and find them laughable. me, my partner and our 8 month old daughter booked a last min deal, we we're given alocation on arrival and we're naturally dreading where we would end up. But as we walked into the hotel reception area all my worries went away. Its stunning to look at, all marble flooring and huge comfy sofas. The staff we're very friendly, the room was clean, the food amazing and the views breath taking.... Reading some of the reviews i was gobsmacked to see them slagging off the food. All steak, fish, pork and lamb chops etc are cooked fresh infront of u while u wait. there is always rice, roast pots, mash, chips and several types of pasta. There is always fresh sea food, and traditional local dishes for ppl that like to try new things. and if any of u are into desserts make sure u have the strawberry and lime sponge cake, its to die for. Our room was cleaned every day, and we wasnt careful with our belongings many times we left money, passports, digital cameras and mobile phones laying around and these items we're always there when we returned, so u cant fault the cleaning staff. At 1st i thought the bar staff we're arrogant but i come to understand that this is far from the truth, its just down to a language barrier. The area that the hotel is in is still very spanish and is only just coming up into the tourist area so there has never been a need for the staf to understand english before. but they do try to speak to you and they are very amusing and friendly if u give them the chance. The pools were always cleaned daily and the life guard is great with the kids always making a fuss of them and keeping them out of trouble. The staff we're great with our 8 month old daughter always making a fuss of her and making sure she was ok, this a totally family friendly hotel. The only complaint i agree with on any of these reviews is the problem with flies, but they only seem to be around the pool and the beach side bar they never plagued us in the hotel so it was more then bearable. what i will say though is if ur looking for a holiday with loads of clubs, drinking, excitment this ISN'T the place for u, its very quiet and peaceful but i have no doubt within 5 years it will be as lively as benidorm.. I couldnt recommend this hotel or area more, in the 7 days we we're there not once did i get bored of getting up at the crack of dawn just to watch the sun rise, only way to discribe it is BREATH TAKING, i hope u have just as much of a great time as we did.
ever wanted to be second class ?? come here !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
where to start ! arrived and checked in quite quickly , was hassled by the car park attendant for a parking ticket. After we were shown our room we went back and complained about it being too small for the four of us ,and were told there was nothing they could do at all. Not accepting this, we waited to see the on duty Manager , he said he would look into a bigger room for us for the next day . Then we were informed of the car parking charges ( not listed on chargeable extras ) 11 euros a day. The meals were ok plenty of food lots of choice not always hot though, had to use the micro wave most meals. We were moved the next day to a bigger room , however the smell from the rubbish bins was appalling and that was our view for the next 7 days. This was our very first time all inclusive and i have to say i have never felt so singled out ,as all the inclusive guests were. With our fluorescent yellow wrist bands, and the treatment by some of the staff to the all inclusive guests was terrible. This hotel has all the potential to be one of the best in the area , but as long as it treats is guests who pay up front for their food ,drinks etc, like a second rate guest, then they will continue to get reviews like this. As listed by another all inclusive guest, the hairdressers, wi fi,pool towels, supermarket, etc, were non existent, which if listed as part of your amneties, does influence you booking this resort! We made the most of our holiday as a family, we needed it , could of been so much better !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Great value for money
Myself and a friend who is pregnant booked a last minute all inclusive 5 day break at the Caleta Palace but after reading the reviews on here we were worried about what awaited us...It seems we had nothing to worry about at all and enjoyed a lovely break. As soon as we landed at the airport we were greeted by the Melitours rep who located our minibus driver and as we were by ourselves, he escorted us over to the bus. We arrived at the hotel and were checked very quickly and efficiently. The rooms were basic but clean, we were given fresh towels each day of the stay and the cleaners were friendly and did a thorough job every day when cleaning our room. I feel I must write something about the hotels all inclusive system, after reading the reviews we were expecting to have a nightmare, but infact, we experienced the opposite. The staff at the pool bar and the main bar (Where all inclusive CAN get drinks from) were very friendly and the longest we waited at the bar was 5 minutes at around 22:30 when all us all inclusives were getting the drinks in before the all inclusive finished at 23:00. Regarding the comments people have made about being made to feel like lepers and having to drink at the pool bar - well this is just rediculous. Even if the All Inclusive drinks weren't available at the main bar when their party was there, there was absolutely nothing stopping them taking drinks to the main bar or terrace area which are both nicely furnished and around 50ft from the pool bar! Also, the pool bar wasn't just for the English tourists, while we were there, there was a mix of Spanish and English and everyone was treated the same. Myself and my friend were not drinking alcohol during the holiday but did not hear of any instances of either of the bars running out of wines, spirits or beers. The comment someone has put on here about not being able to get a family room and being annoyed because they could see Spanish families in the family rooms absolutely incensed me. I appreciate that it is not acceptable for someone to book a family room and then not get one, but these things do happen. Would this person have still been as outraged if they were in a family room and the Spanish families had be put in a double? I think not. I think if you are planning on booking here then you have to consider that it is a 3* hotel not a 5*. The buffet food for breakfast lunch and dinner isn't what I would call exquisite but it is more than acceptable and the choice is excellent. There is something for everyone (Including vegetarian). Hot and Cold Pasta, Salads, Breads, Fish, Poultry , Red Meat, Vegtables, Rice, Fruit and Desserts were on offer every night of our stay. The restaurant staff work hard to ensure that tables are cleared and we were offered drinks each time we ate there. As with a lot of buffets in hotels (Including 5*'s that we have stayed in) the food isn't always piping hot - however, this hotel has provided something I have never seen on an all inclusive holiday before - a microwave to warm food up. The only negative things I can think of from this stay was the flies around the pool area which would be made better if the hotel disinfected the floors each day, but then flies were a problem in the whole resort, not just this hotel. Also we were staying on the ground floor and we were woken most nights by guests going back to their rooms noisly and not paying any consideration to guests who may already be in bed. As much as I hate to say this, the majority of the noisemakers were British. It's true that they were just enjoying their holiday but thats exactly what we were trying to do too - I guess people have different ideas of what makes a good holiday. I don't want to say that what other people have wrote on here is untrue as it could be the case that the hotel has made some changes and listened to the complaints of previous guests and if this is the case then its just a shame that they did not get to see the improvements whilst they were there. I would definately visit this hotel again as it was excellent value for money and would recommend it to couples and groups. It may not be suited to children with young families as there was a very limited childrens programme while we were there.
Leper's Hotel
Firstly, although this is going to sound like all the other reviews, we did actually enjoy 'getting away' for 2 weeks, the only thing which let those 2 weeks down, was this hotel. Firstly, we were told by the guy at the other end of the phone (via teletext), that a cab to the hotel would only cost around 20 euros - actually 55 euros. Also, that a med-hotels rep would be there to meet us - apparently not. Once at the hotel, which on first viewing appeared pleasant, we had to re-request a cot for our 18month old. As we had arrived at about 10:50, we were trying to hurry along to get a last drink at the bar. We first, naturally, entered the 'plush' bar, only to be ushered outside to go to the poolside bar - this was humiliating infront of all of the 'paying' guests. Once at the poolside bar, another guest had to 'beg' to get us a drink, as we had got there for 11 O'Clock. The difference in appearance between both bars was incredible: 1. Plush Bar - padded seating, on wicker, umbrellas, drinks served to the table, gorgeous soft sofa's indoors etc. 2. Poolside Bar - crisps still on floor from 'snack time', incredibly rude staff that wouldn't even make eye contact, let alone speak to the English, plastic chairs, no umbrellas, only 2 drinks at a time. I was actually told to 'hurry up' with my order at one point as I didn't name my 2 drinks quick enough. The pool area was grim. My husband had to sweep the area where we were sitting, as it was covered in cigarette ends. The baby pool was cloudy & full of debris - even upon mentioning this at reception, it was not rectified. I also feel that the childrens entertainment should not have been advertised to English customers, as there was no translation from Spanish into English for them. There was no-one to come and round up the English children to encourage them to join in - it was pretty poor. I do, however, have to say that the food was lovely, an absolutely huge choice of food available. I would strongly recommed people avoid this hotel. Emma, Kenilworth, Warwickshire
Very mixed feelings!
This hotel could have been so much better! It could be 4 -star but for the 'Fawlty Towers' outlook of the staff. I agree that AI guests are treated as charity cases and have to wear a naff yellow wristband (cover this with a watch or bangle). There were good points :The hotel is quite handsome and I thought it was clean. The location is excellent and we ate a great deal - I quite enjoyed the food, but I am not particularly fussy. There was lots to eat. We don't drink a lot but noticed it could be tricky getting a drink - someone should try to straighten out the management on this- it is unfair. I quite liked the fact that it was full of polite Spanish guests, "Brits" really do ourselves no favours swaggering around in naff football shirts getting plastered. If this is you, this is definitely not your scene! Also, you will need a few words of Spanish as the Spanish are not obliged to speak English! Our room was clean and pleasant- but no hot water! Did I like the hotel? I suppose I did, I really don't know!! PS: it is quite handy for Girona airport.
Lovely place to stay,honestly
hello. Please forgive my language mistakes as im not english. Lets start then: I went there with my wife for 7 nights all inc. basis on 02/09. Travel: Flight to Girona Airport then very fast transfer with nice guy till the hotels doors. Accomodation: Very fast check in with no prblems, however it was 10 o'clock and our keys been able for us from 14.Room was fantastic, with nice view for mountains.Nice cleaned, tidy shower and bath, fresh air in room.Every day fresh 6 towels.Friendly cleaning stuff. Food: Food was fantastic!!!The best thing in hotel except beach :D. They always serv few kinds of meet, vegetarian meals,so many kinds of fresh fruits and vegetables.Ice creams with many flavours. Drinks:beer, any wine, water, soft drinks etc.. On all inclusice board i was completly satissfied. Bar: Everything was fine, nice cool place,peace...except waiters.I think they dont really like english people=Specialy young ones.Very rude when they drunk...means almost always...starting from 11 am.SUX. All the rest: Good place for older people,no discos in hotel.Complelty peace. Beach was beautifull, have a nice pictures. Interesting town, many shops and restaurants...all kinds. I wish to go there again someday. PS: To all english who going abroad for summer: R You going to get rest or to get drunk...please dont complaint that stuff was bit rude, its couse of some of you who cant respect any other nations. They are not live only to dry your ass everytime you want them to.
Dont Even Think About It
We are a family of 4 (2 ADULTS AND 2 CHILDREN) and I hope you read this review and dont have the holiday from hell like we did. I have never complained or written a bad review ever but feel that it would be a shame if you booked this hotel. I dont even know where to start. We booked all inclusive (which was a joke) ice creams where non existent then told that they would be half price. AI customers could only use the pool bar which was filthy we stayed at the hotel for 10 days and never once was it cleaned. In the evening we had to sit on white plastic chairs but the spanish had brown leather chairs inside a lovely bar area as they where paying for their drinks We had to wear yellow bands and I know as soon as the staff seen them on our wrists there attitude changed they only could understand english when they wanted to. After marching the manageress down to the pool side bar to confront the bar staff with the AI programme which states ice cream for children and explaining what is an ice cream to the staff my children were allowed ice creams which turned into ice lollies. After running a bath which consisted of brown water decided just to have a shower. Please do not book this hotel even if they offer you it for free. As it is dirty the pool area is unsafe at the end of the day they only welcome Spanish tourists. Our holiday was saved by meeting really nice people who where in the same predicament as us and helped the holiday go quicker as we couldnt wait to get home. We were the only english people staying at the hotel who had a sea view - maybe because we have a spanish surname. The childrens entertainment was for spanish children only. the pool side bar staff where very rude (one in particular).
